The God Delusion explores the unproven beliefs that are treated as factual by many religions and the extremes to which some followers have ... all » taken them. Dawkins opens the programme by describing the "would-be murderers . . . who want to kill you and me, and themselves, because they're motivated by what they think is the highest ideal." Dawkins argues that "the process of non-thinking called faith" is not a way of understanding the world, but instead stands in fundamental opposition to modern science and the scientific method, and is divisive and dangerous.

The Root of All Evil? is a television documentary, written and presented by Richard Dawkins, in which he argues that the world would be better off without religion. The documentary was first broadcast in January 2006, in the form of two 45-minute episodes (excluding advertisement breaks), on Channel 4 in the UK.

In The Virus of Faith, Dawkins opines that the moral framework of religions is warped, and argues against the religious indoctrination of ... all » children. The title of this episode comes from The Selfish Gene, in which Dawkins discussed the concept of memes.

What the Critics Say

"Richard Dawkins is the leading soothsayer of our time....The God Delusion continues his thought-provoking tradition." (J. Craig Venter, decoder of the human genome)
"The God Delusion is smart, compassionate, and true....If this book doesn't change the world, we're all screwed." (Penn & Teller)
"The world needs...passionate rationalists....Richard Dawkins so stands out through the cutting intelligence of The God Delusion." (James D. Watson, co-discoverer of DNA, author of The Double Helix)

Publisher's Summary
Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

He critiques God in all his forms, from the sex-obsessed tyrant of the Old Testament to the more benign (but still illogical) Celestial Watchmaker favored by some Enlightenment thinkers. He eviscerates the major arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of a supreme being. He shows how religion fuels war, foments bigotry, and abuses children, buttressing his points with historical and contemporary evidence. In so doing, he makes a compelling case that belief in God is not just irrational, but potentially deadly.

Dawkins has fashioned an impassioned, rigorous rebuttal to religion, to be embraced by anyone who sputters at the inconsistencies and cruelties that riddle the Bible, bristles at the inanity of "intelligent design", or agonizes over fundamentalism in the Middle East or Middle America

Atheists are odd little specimans, aren't they mannu? I don't blame you for being intrigued. The psychological angle alone makes me giddy.

When a criminal goes to prison, some of them instead of feeling captive feel they are free. Similary as I watched that video of Lourdes pilgrimage, I thought, many who go there in faith, for some of them the process of surrendering to drinking water and washing in it triggers something in them that makes them better physically. Its because they are healed spiritually, some kind of new awareness dawns in them.

And I do not believe that intellectuals have all the answer in the world. But I really need to explore a scientists mind when Ted Haggard quesions "Did our eyes just pop out of its own or was there some divine creation?". It reminds of another parallel. Your watch is sophisticated and elegant. Did it just spring up or was there a creator behind it? Dawkins discusses those in another book I think or the same I don't know. I still have to read his book.

So to answer your question "intrigued"? no.
"explore" oh yeah.

Keep your pyschological revolution going on In my opinion it is a must for any seekers of truth. Did you psychoanalyse that islam fundamental in that video 1 responding to questions such as "Will Islam conquer the world?" etc...Jeez, indeed it is the most unlightened place on earth.

Take it easy, just as religious people need non-believers for them to condemn.
Intellectuals need people with faith to accept their discoveries. It gives them a special kick

Have you seen video of Tolle and Oprah discussing chapter 3 on Ego?

This is where it all begins...you can skip chapter 1 and chapter 2 it should be ok.

Tolle has revealed deeper mysteries in this episode.

I finished part II of the video

I think he summarizes in the end very nicely "Why worry if there is a sky God?".

Be in the "here now"

How is what he said different than Tolle or Osho or even Jesus when he quoted the birds do not worry what meal they will have next .

Just enjoy the present moment - explore nature and cherish that you as an existence can never be duplicated in the infinite combinations of genetic structure available to nature.

Living solely in the moment is a fate given to the animals, it is not meant for men and woman.

"sky God"? Ironically, this is a notion found largely in his own school of thought.

Yes. A "special kick".

>>>Living solely in the moment is a fate given to the animals, it is not meant for men and woman.

Sometimes animals are better than humans

Atleast they don't call our sisters and wifes wh0res as that abused guy from New york in that video.

And you used words like fate etc which I consider BS and it stems from your own religious abuse over the years

>>...his own school of thought

I am glad I went to his school
Had a deja vu moment there.

>>..special kick
Reality is whenever you experience truth you get a kick. Perhaps he experienced truth in those moment. Atleast some one does not fake their bliss like Mother Teresa or Pope John Paul

You guys should read Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now because you are taking "living in the moment" way out of context here" It is clear that some of you do not understand the concept.

I've read some Tolle, although not that particular book. I liked him well enough - a little light, so to speak. Marketing to masses. Which is laudable. I don't criticize him for that.

"living in the moment" is a horrible cliche these days. So you're right, I think. We most likely hold different definitions of the phrase. What's yours, Thirteen?

"What you resist persists" reminds me more of fleas than life in general

When it comes to life lessons I believe that statement to be true. The lesson keeps coming up until you're able to master whatever you're supposed to master. If you resist the lesson, it only perpetuates it.
