http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d08333.pdf The Government Accountability Office recently released a report entitled "Government Purchase Cards: Actions Needed to Strengthen Internal Controls to Reduce Fraudulent, Improper, and Abusive Purchases". The report for the 2006 fiscal year detailed certain improper charges that were put on government credit cards, including:
$13,500 for dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse
$1,100 for internet dating services
$77,000 in high-end clothing stores
$360 on women's underwear and lingerie
The study found that around 41% of the purchases made with purchase cards during that time period were inappropriate.
