MEMORIAL DAY.

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As TAPS began to play.
The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.
They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.
I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.
Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,
Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore

The United States is an infant as far as civilizations are concerned.
India isn't exactly known for it's military might but look how old and deep their civilization is.

The US is nothing special. THe US military/imperialist war machine will crumble, it is only a matter of time.

The US is the largest privider of food and aid in the world--a far cry from an "imperialistic war machine."

I'm short on time but ... thanks much for this topic.

They and their sacrifices will never be forgotten. Gratitude, humility and love always.

Yeah no more soldiers here on earth one day.

This stupid holiday was introduced in 1970's by a patriotic idealist arse.

But then may be the reason was to give a long weekend to the Americans rather than drool over lost lives. Very clever as$

So Blue, the US is nothing special?

Let me be the first to invite you to go find "someplace" that is special.

You might find Sodom or Gomorrha more to your liking and they do say "lightning" never strikes the same place twice. Of course, they say a lot of things.

Mannu, this is for you. Just stuff it up your sorry ass and pull the pin. You'll be better in no time.
