I'm wondering why Al Gore is allowed to advertise here at LL when it is known that his 'global warming theory' is another means for him/the government to control and limit us people. by trying to force us to reduce the population, to charge carbon taxes on us and more. I'm still doing my homework on this one but I've concluded so far that he's not for the greater good. It amazes me how the government destroy the resourses of earth and then try make us feel guilty for living.

Not everyone agrees on those issues.
Nor does everyone detest him and distrust him.
And he paid for his banner after all.
AL GORE is also found within this phrase:
EARTH-HEART-GOLD
EARTH HEART GOLD Lexigram/Calligram
I'd rather see his banner than one of a person who Lexigrams based on anagrams from an anagram generator, and thinks a word list of lexigram words is an anagram. But as with Al Gore, he too paid for his banner.
Randall needs money to run Lindaland.
It is his choice who he lets have a banner here.
As far as environmental issues, something needs done. The lakes and rivers in my area have caught on fire. A massive fish kill happened a few years ago and tons of dead fish washed up. The birds and flies/maggots would not even eat them! The ones not disposed of slowly dried out but were not eaten or rotted. No strong dead fish smell either. Something very wrong there! About that same time an eye burning nose burning chemical stench was all over an approximately
1,200 square mile area or more. It permeated so strongly that even closing ones windows did not stop it. Sometimes, too often we cannot swim in the lake because it is dangerously polluted.
I have seen frogs, puppies, and kittens born with missing limbs, backward legs, cleft palates, and older ones with head size tumors. Same for game fish, terrible growths and tumors. Carp with deformed eyes and huge ruby red lips! And fish do not have lips naturally! I have seen gas well drillers dumping their brine in creeks and rivers. Farmers dumping illegal chemicals on the ground and or still using their massive stockpiles of now banned dangerous agricultural chemicals. My area has one of the highest rates of breast, liver, and stomach cancer in the world according to some reports. So you may hate Al Gore, but something does need done! And about over population, well again in my area, folks on welfare pop out like 7 kids for tax breaks, and free hand outs before the age of 30! Those kids then pop out even more welfare kids, and it really becomes a serious social problem. Too much irresponsible breeding going on by those who give nothing back to society.

with a little research and an open mind it will be easy for people to find out about his true motives

I feel that his ad is preying on the minds of spiritually minded people here at LL who are unaware and I want to bring it to their attention thats all

I know he paid for it, I wrote that that to get attention, as you do

I added more above.
I really have not researched his entire agenda.
But he is right in that something needs done.
But what? By whom?
What a mess wouldn't you say?
Thanks for the food for thought.
I will look into all this more when I get time,

Except for the lovely artist with a banner here, I personally would not buy what the other banners are selling. My choice to not buy. As for Al Gore's latest book, I will get it from the library for free. As for leading the spiritually unaware astray, preying on their minds, that is a matter of opinion as to which banners are attempting to do so. LOL!

When are we going to have feminine hygiene products and loan companies on here? Then it will be just like switching on the T.V so the kids can watch cartoons.

p.s he might get lending rights on that library loan, check it out if that bothers you, but remember us librarians need jobs

RANDALL HAS ASKED nicely for donations to support LL!
He does not have all the standard dozens of pop ups and ads that other sites have! I cannot believe how much b!tching people do when a webmaster does what he needs to do to keep a site going! Except for banners Randall keeps this site very free of pop ups and other nonsense!

As a moderator here at LL you should not be complaining about Randall our webmaster, having banner ads! Are you paying any $$$$ to be here?

Once a library buys their copy they can check it out as requested. Al Gore would not have "lending rights". Not sure what you are talking about there. I am quite
up on how Libraries function and loan books.

You misunderstood me. Advertising is everywhere, when you get ads for tampons and loan companies on cartoon channels Al Gore above here seems, to me at least, relatively innocuous. But maybe he has sinister ulterior motives, I don't know. Al Gore, not Randall. I wouldn't want to make those kind of allegations, my pay might get docked.

Might was a key word in that sentence, not every country works the same way, I don't assume that. In the U.K he could get payment for a library loan:

http://www.plr.uk.com/allAboutPlr/whatIsPlr.htm

Public Lending Right (PLR) is the right for authors to receive payment under PLR legislation for the loans of their books by public libraries. To qualify for payment, applicants must apply to register their books with us. Payments are made annually on the basis of loans data collected from a sample of public libraries in the UK.

AH....
I am in Ohio in the U.S.A.
I do not think our Library system is like yours or not. I know I can get books from here and Canada through inter library loan but not from overseas.
I do not have Television because the commercials are insipid and insidious!
Of course most shows are moronic in nature so no television for me. I do not subscribe to magazines which have too many ads either.
As to ads here, well Al Gore's message does appeal to many who care about our planet. Of course many do not like him as they do not like any politician. While even though there are those who do not agree with him, he has and does bring environmental issues into the spotlight. So his ad banner here does not clash with new age ideas I feel.
And as I found, his name "AL GORE"
can be found in EARTH-HEART-GOLD.

Rubina ~

Right now, Al Gore is not a part of the federal government in the USA, so he's not capable of charging us "carbon taxes" or any other kind of taxes And I would be very surprised if Al Gore or anyone would be successful at forcing Ireland to reduce its population

I understand your desire to "protect spiritually-minded people from being preyed upon" -- I myself feel the same way about protecting newbies to astrology from gloom'n'doom or just plain incompetent astrologers who consider some cosmic bodies "devil planets." But I don't believe in censorship -- ala your "Get Him Off." I believe in expressing one's own divergent opinion and let the noobs or the spiritually-minded make up their own minds.

I agree with LEXX -- I may not particularly like Al Gore, but with his notoriety, more people are probably hearing his message than if it were you or me as the messenger. And helping save Mom Earth from the oil-gas-mining rapists and polluters is pretty close to the top on my list of priorities. I don't believe it's a coincidence that 1 in 4 people nowadays get cancer -- pollution is everywhere and in every part of the food chain and the environment. Even if global warming is a myth, wouldn't it be prudent anyway to reduce as much pollution as we can, for our own health and the health of our children and their children?? Is the greed for money and power and profit *really* more important than the destruction and despoiling of our planet's resources and beauty??

The company I work for is revamping our building and "going green" -- we recycle, there's a bike-to-work initiative, several proposed company cars for carpooling, low-flush toilets, motion-sensor lighting, etc. The winds of change are blowing, but they need help from all of us.

I'd like to say a word about contributions to LL, also. Summertime is a slow time of year for Randall in his offline life, and donations to LL help keep this place afloat, free, and (mostly) free of ads. Anyone can donate by using PayPal and sending whatever you wish to webmaster@linda-goodman.com.

PLR operates in Ireland, that doesn't suprise me. There's also a system in Canada, but not the U.S.A. I doubt the Society of Authors is pleased by this.

But there you go, consumer choice for those interested. Buy a second hand copy off the 'net if you don't want to give that particular author money. Your cash will instead be going to someone needing a second income to make ends meet. It might well be a librarian. But even then do you want to give a cut to Amazon or Ebay?

My father refuses to subscribe to satellitte T.V because he doesn't want to give Rupert Murdoch his money. So he comes around my house to watch it instead. Or maybe it is just a coincidence he offers to babysit when major cricketing events are airing on Sky?

http://www.plrinternational.com/faqs/faqs.htm#recognise

At least 41 countries recognise lending rights in their legislation; but PLR systems exist in only 28 of these. (Systems exist where payments are being made, or where there is PLR legislation and funding has been provided.) 24 of these are in Europe: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. Additionally (in 2007) the governments of Cyprus and Hungary are taking active steps to implement PLR schemes.

Elsewhere there are working PLR systems in Australia, Canada, Israel and New Zealand. Copyright legislation in Mauritius and Kazakhstan provides for lending rights but no PLR system is yet in operation. In Japan a government advisory committee recommended in 2003 that discussions take place between author and library organisations towards the introduction of PLR, but this has not yet resulted in proposals for a PLR system.

There are no PLR systems in the United States, South America, Asia or Africa

I know an author who has a book which has sold overseas to libraries specifically. He is not getting any of those lending rights. Is it because he is American?

Randall, would it be problematic to include a "donate here" little icon somewhere? I think it would be a good idea.

Well since I am not popular with many anyhow, I will say, I have nothing against Al Gore. If that upsets folks...tough!
I also find it strange that everyone is b!tching about Al Gore and him pitching his book...
but no one seems a bit bothered by banners which are asking for these kind of $$$$$ donations and fees!
quote:

Seventy Five Dollar Donation...

One Hundred and Fifty Dollar Donation...

Five Hundred Dollar Donation...

One Thousand Five Hundred Dollar Donation...

Ten Thousand Dollar Donation...

Thirty Thousand Dollar Donation...

However anyone not paying for LindaLand has no right to grouse about what banners Randall has up now do they????????
I do not particularly like some either but it is how Randall pays for this site! If he wants banners to promote Girl Scout cookies or Lawn Mowers, it is his right to do so!

I see all the banners welcome if it helps keep Lindaland afloat.

Hi RA, hoping all is well in your world

An icon for donations is a grand idea

BlueRoamer, those pictures are funny!

Lexx, I don't think I said anything about removing the banner. Geeez. I only asked, "how much longer?" And that question was kind of rhetorical. I don't think Randall can really answer that question, and I do not expect him to remove the banner.

And I do not see where everyone is complaining about Gore pitching his book. I simply don't like the guy. He is a lying, slimy, opportunistic parasite. He is elitist scum of the earth without conscience or morality. He will say or do anything to inflate his ego and his bank account. He does not care about you, the polar bears, or the planet. The only thing about the EARTH in his HEART is all about the GOLD.

If you like him, that's fine by me, and I'm not upset about it. A lot of people do. I don't.

I hope I wasn't unclear.

Anything that helps Randall is okay by me.

Al Gore? Bleck! Helping LL keep running? Hooray!

Hey, LEXX. I agree that the banner shouldn't be removed just because some of us don't like him. As for lexigramming, I think his name being contained in the EARTH-HEART-GOLD lexigram is very interesting. As you've often pointed out in phrases like these a positive or negative meaning that could be inferred, often subject to our personal "filters". Imo, I think that this is a very important lexigram and that the duality implies that Al Gore has the choice to aid or hamper. And still, they're just signs along the way.

Ra, Eleanore
As Zala said when she agreed with me...
quote:
I agree with LEXX -- I may not particularly like Al Gore, but with his notoriety, more people are probably hearing his message than if it were you or me as the messenger. And helping save Mom Earth from the oil-gas-mining rapists and polluters is pretty close to the top on my list of priorities.
That is it in a nutshell. And as for the banners here, if they help support LL I am cool with it even though some of the banners and what they are selling, I do not condone.
Ra no problem.
Eleanore, That was just a quickie off the top of my head Lexigram/Calligram of EARTH-HEART-GOLD
I was at first only looking at it for names, and AL GORE was the first to jump out at me!
That he is concerned with the Earth, and some may say Gold...well it just seemed to fall into place. Read the Lexigram Calligram and articles I posted again. Like him or not it seemed to fit.
