Not one, not two but all three broadcast news anchors are going with O'Bomber on his so called European tour..like the leftist lap dogs they really are.

Treating O'Bomber like a head of State to prop up his sinking image in the United States isn't going to be appreciated by the folks back home...whom the grubby little leftist elitist O'Bomber referred to as "clinging to their guns and religion".

Of course, the news media in America will tell you that they're not biased...no, no, no; not biased in any way..just reportin the news.

Quick someone, tell me when all 3 news anchors from the broadcast news followed McCain on any trip he's ever taken.

Supposedly, O'Bomber who couldn't find his butt with both hands when it comes to foreign affairs is going to become "The One The World Has Been Waiting For" on his triumphant trip to salvage his foreign policy standing and our lapdog press is going to be there to tell us all "it's true".

He's even planned to give a policy speech at a site where only heads of state...like Presidents of the United States have spoken. The sheer arrogance and presumption of O'Bomber is reason enough to keep him far from the levers of power in America.

Notice how Kurtz terms the trip as the "Trek".
Trek...To make a slow or arduous journey.
To journey on foot. Laughable.

3 Anchors to Follow Obama's Trek Abroad
By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, July 17, 2008

The three network anchors will travel to Europe and the Middle East next week for Barack Obama's trip, adding their high-wattage spotlight to what is already shaping up as a major media extravaganza.

Lured by an offer of interviews with the Democratic presidential candidate, Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric will make the overseas trek, meaning that the NBC, ABC and CBS evening newscasts will originate from stops along the route and undoubtedly give it big play.

John McCain has taken three foreign trips in the past four months, all unaccompanied by a single network anchor.

Obama has "proven adept at generating excitement," says David Folkenflik, media correspondent for National Public Radio. He said the anchors hope "a little bit of that excitement will rub off on their newscasts if they can convey an American phenomenon abroad, if that's what it turns out to be. Senator McCain is not as magnetic a figure in that way."

Jim Geraghty, a columnist for National Review Online, said Obama's paucity of foreign travel as a presidential candidate makes the trip a natural draw for news organizations, while "McCain has been around forever, and he's probably been to all these places before." But, he says, "the networks will be acting as a PR wing for the Obama campaign if they treat any of these photo ops as truly newsworthy breakthroughs."

The plan is for Williams, Gibson and Couric interviews to be parceled out on successive nights in different countries, giving each anchor a one-day exclusive. (Correspondents could have done the interviews instead, but a certain competitiveness sets in once one or two anchors agree to go.) The Washington Post is withholding the scheduled locations for security reasons.

Some 200 journalists have asked to accompany Obama on the costly trip, which will include stops in Iraq and Afghanistan, but the campaign will be able to accommodate only one-fifth that number. No itinerary has been announced.

The senator from Illinois has been drawing far more media attention than his Republican rival from Arizona. With this week's Newsweek cover story on Obama's religious beliefs, he has been featured on Time and Newsweek covers 12 times in the past three years, compared with five for McCain. This week's New Yorker includes a 14,600-word piece on Obama's political rise in Chicago. Obama and his wife, Michelle, were recently on the cover of Us Weekly and were interviewed -- with their young daughters, which Obama later said he regretted -- by "Access Hollywood."

When McCain visited Britain, France and Israel in March and met with their leaders, no network anchors tagged along. NBC and ABC sent correspondents; CBS did not. None of the evening newscasts covered his trip to Canada last month. And McCain's swing through Colombia and Mexico two weeks ago was barely covered, although NBC and ABC sent correspondents.

The upcoming Obama trip, by contrast, has already generated stories about how large his crowds will be and whether German authorities will allow him to speak at the Brandenburg Gate. "Europe Awaits Obama With Open Arms," the Los Angeles Times reported yesterday.

Oddly enough.. living here in Germany (Bavaria) closer to Berlin that other parts of this country (and Bavaria is one of the most liberal states in Germany), I haven't heard a PEEP... nothing.. not from my local German friends other than "Your media wants him to win, we hear lots about him in the news".

We told our friends at the fest point blank "Obama is for change, what change we are still waiting for. He says he wants to increase the Military, but his goals are sketchy at best. He tells the Military that he will increase their pay, but remains to be untold. We feel he will do what Clinton did and that is close bases and downscale the Military".

That brings fear to most Germans. When Americans pull out (contrary to the BS left wingers) it kills the economy. Just look at the bases that have closed here- Bad Kissingen is just one of more than 10 examples. It has been runover by poverty. Germany opened their doors to the Russian and Turk immigrants that quickly learned how to work the system. They LOVE the German tenant rules that give the tenant rights to stay in a house, rent unpaid, until the landlords can evict them (our last landlords lost over 12,000 Euro - almost $20,000 US in fees to get rid of the tenants before us). They also have a VERY liberal Social Security type system that is almost bankrupt now.

The Russians and Turks learned about those systems, waited for the US to leave and then devastated economies.

Bavaria relies heavily on the US. Here in Graf they love us because of what we pour into the economy based on what we buy, the jobs we give them (we have to hire 2 local nationals for every Military spouse, if we can't hit those numbers, then the jobs stay vacant).

Obama is bad for the economy. He offended most sensible German's by trying to find a way to give his speech at a famous landmark that only US Presidents have been able to use. The liberal Berlin Mayor is on board, but the rest of Germany is offended, regardless of what the US press says.

So... here in Germany.. .there was a major curiousity.. now there is just a yawn and stretch... they would rather attend the wonderful summer festivals than deal with another wannabe JFK or Reagan.

Is Democrat Barack Obama unfairly receiving more coverage than Republican John McCain?

  • Yes, the media has a liberal bias. No one should be surprised by this.
    79%

  • No, media coverage is based on newsworthiness. McCain is just not as newsy as Obama.
    14%

  • Sometimes, but it's a long campaign. There weren't a lot of McCain complaints during Obama's problems with Rev. Wright.
    6.3%

Not a scientific survey. Click to learn more. Results may not total 100% due to rounding.

Yes, yes. Not a scientific survey. Just an msnbc live poll. Still interesting though, imo. Guess someone is paying/has paid crazy right wing nutters to attack that poll so it unfairly leans heavily one way.

"Obama is actually immensely popular in Germany according to Der Spiegel."

That ought to tell you everything you need to know about O'Bomber.

If Der Spiegel was any further to the left than they are, they would be off the left edge of the Earth.

Word on the street is that the Germans are going to have to evacuate all the German citizens out of Berlin to make room for O'Bomber's lap dog press corp and his cast of thousands of foreign policy advisors.

I would say Der Spiegel has about the same credibility with Germans as the National Enquirer has with Americans.

Further, the German people elected Angela Merkel, a far more conservative Chancellor than the leftist Gerhard Schroeder whom Der Spiegel loved.

Word on the street is no such thing.

I would say that you have no more means of discrediting Der Spiegel than you do any other publication you don't like.

The 2005 German federal election wasn't won by either side. She managed to get 1.1% more votes, but there was no majority win, and she wasn't automatically named chancellor. The Grand Coalition that followed brokered her the chancellorship, but gave her opposition half of the cabinet seats.

1.1% more of the vote is a win...almost everywhere.

Yeah, I do have some preferences in news magazines.

For instance, I wasn't thrilled by Michael Isikoff's lying 'Korans in the toilet' article in Newsweek magazine which got 15 or 16 people killed.

Germany is like America in that they have their Liberal pockets and then major conservative areas. Like the US, there are usually large portions of Liberals that throw off the vote for the entire state. Take CA and MD for example. Baltimore and Prince George's County makes up only a small part of the state, but is filled with Liberals with their hands out. They don't want the free ride to stop. Their votes end of discounting the votes of the rest of the state.

Germany has the same problem and their open door policy is destroying their economy. Whole cities were thrown into disrepair by the influx of Russians and Turks that learned that you could rent a house, pay for a month and then never have to pay again until you get kicked out (one to two years later as the pro-tenent laws are evil towards landlords).

They learned to milk the social security /unemployment type system here in Germany. They took jobs long enough to qualify for the handouts and then promptly quit.

There is a big move to get rid of how easy it is to get on these welfare programs, but the libs aren't making it easy.

The Germans have higher gas, food and rent prices that the US (gas is 1.5 Euro per gallons for standard unleaded.. that is 6 Euro per gallon or $11 per gallon US). Average rent in my area is 800 Euro per month (for a two bedroom less than 1000sqf) that translates to about $1450 per month and Graf is the equivalent of a rural area in California like Tulare or Bakersfield.

Their wage is pretty low and many times they have to work on "Contract" which keeps them from getting full time status and qualifying for benefits.

Here in Bavaria it is quiet as hell as no one CARES that Obama is coming out. Berlin is full of Russians, Turks and very Liberal Germans. They had to move the Love Parade from Berlin because of all the fighting between the different cultures. Berlin has turned into LA waiting for the riots to occur.

Yesterday a German man tried to blast through the gates with his car and then threw red paint out on the cement, where Obama is due to speak, yelling "We can't be bought".

Der Speigal is similar to the LA or NYT. They give you the slant that they want to give you. Of course many will attend, they say almost 1 Million will be there tonight, and why not? They have to see the US Democratic Nominee Joke that you all elected as your front runner.

Berlin is gripped by Obamania as the US presidential candidate met with Chancellor Merkel in the German capital on Thursday while thousands waited for him to speak in the heart of the city.

...

Obama, hugely popular in Germany, sought to play down the massive expectations for his speech in Berlin Thursday, saying he was not trying to make a historic address like JFK and Ronald Reagan.

After plastering his campaign propaganda all over the entrance to the most holy site in the world to Jewish citizens; O'Bomber flew on to Berlin to campaign for President or World Messiah. Hard to tell what this arrogant kook is running for.
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=70454

Heard in his speech in Berlin was the revelation he's "A Citizen of the World" and "Our Time Has Come".

This guy has to be the least qualified and most over hyped candidate in the history of Presidential politics. Also the most arrogant. On his official website is the little nonsense statement..."Together, we can save the world". Just have a sip of the O'Bomber Kool-Aid.

Empty suit or cartoon character this guy is a parody of what a candidate for President of the United States should be.

We have no "hope he can change".

Oh, you really are drilling a dry well with the statement O'Bomber rattles me.

I'm just taking notes on O'Bomber's many gaffes, arrogance, empty rhetoric and the inclination of the leftist press to shield O'Bomber's many faults and lack of any qualifications from view of the American voting public.

But, since Americans don't much give a flip what the press thinks about anything, we tune out their lying BS, failures by omission and seek truthful sources for information.

Supposedly there were supposed to be 1 Million people attending Obama's speech. That later changed to 250,000 people. There were actually only 100,000 people. More people attend Octoberfest and the Love parade than went to see him speak. So much for Obamania LOL...

He also decided to scrap visiting wounded Soldiers at Landstuhl because he felt it would be "inappropriate" on a campaign trail. First off, he stated this wasn't a campaign trail because of how it would look to campaign in a foreign country- if he cared about the Military and our votes, he would have taken the time to see the Soldiers that have been wounded in this war.

I guess we know where he really stands.

After O'Bomber insisting he wasn't campaigning in Europe, he turned down a chance to visit our wounded troops in the hospital in Germany.

Reason...O'Bomber couldn't use our military wounded or the backdrop of a military base as a political prop for his campaign.

While it was made crystal clear that O'Bomber could come and bring some of his Senate staff with him....HE COULDN'T BRING THE PRESS HOARDS, TV CAMERAS AND PRESS PHOTOGRAPHERS WITH HIM.

So, O'Bomber opted out of visiting the wounded troops and instead went sightseeing/shopping in Berlin. Very nice and what interesting priorities O'Bomber has.

"Now to really set your head spinning, Obama said he was forced to cancel a scheduled visit to wounded troops at Ramstein and Landstuhl AF bases because they believed such a stop would be "inappropriate" due to the political nature of the trip.

It must be nice to be able to pull out the "politics card" when snubbing our wounded troops (Obama went sightseeing instead) and then putting it in your pocket when addressing 200,000 Germans.

In fact, as Ed Morrissey reports, Obama could have still visited the wounded warriors - he just wouldn't have been able to bring the press horde with him. Ed points us to this NBC News report from Jim Miklaszewski and Courtney Kube:

One military official who was working on the Obama visit said because political candidates are prohibited from using military installations as campaign backdrops, Obama's representatives were told, "he could only bring two or three of his Senate staff member, no campaign officials or workers." In addition, "Obama could not bring any media. Only military photographers would be permitted to record Obama's visit."

The official said "We didn't know why" the request to visit the wounded troops was withdrawn. "He (Obama) was more than welcome. We were all ready for him."

Evidently, Obama's concerns about the press being frozen out as they were in Afghanistan and Iraq where the campaign relied on the army to take pictures and video and distribute them overrode the desire to visit the wounded American soldiers who he may command as CIC.

Ed shows the "decision track" of the Obama campaign:

Obama and his team set up the visits to military installations before going overseas. After seeing how the media got excluded in Iraq and Afghanistan, they decided it wasn't worth traveling to Ramstein and Landstuhl to visit the severely wounded troops because they couldn't bring the campaign and get the photo ops they wanted. Instead, Obama went shopping in Berlin.

As I wrote yesterday, that's certainly a revealing set of priorities for a man who wants to lead these troops as Commander in Chief."

Indeed.

Save your mindreading act for the tourists acoustic.

Thinking Americans know O'Bomber could have visited the troops in the hospital in Germany any time but never did. Americans know O'Bomber could have visited the troops in Iraq at any time but didn't for almost 3 years. Americans know O'Bomber could have visited the troops in Afghanistan at any time but only decided to do so for a photo op for his political campaign...but that didn't work out because the military barred reporters, TV crews and press photographers. That's the main reason he didn't visit the wounded in Germany...no political mileage to be gained from doing so.

Bush on the other hand gets on Air Force One, flies half way around the world to be with the troops on special days, works in the serving line at dinner and never says a word. No press, no cameras and no film crews.

O'Bomber on the other hand is a media hound and if something doesn't serve his constructed image, he's not interested in doing it at all.

AG, that was just an ignorant statement you made. Obama had the chance to visit the troops. He could have come to any one of the Miltiary installations, as a US Senator, to visit troops and thank them for their hard work. He could have come here to Graf and watched training exercises that are currently underway for the Brigade that is setting to deploy before the end of the year.

There was NO reason for him to snub the troops, but is EVIDENT that he did so because he could not use it to benefit his Presidential campaign.

The truth is, he would rather campaign on foreign soil than to extend a hand to those that defend his right to speak.

Had he gone to Landstuhl, he would have been welcomed, they were ready for him, Ramstein cleared his flight AND all the press, they just couldn't accompany him (nor could his campaign staff) while he visited wounded or non-wounded troops.

Many other Senators have come to Germany and visited Iraq as official Congresspersons in their official capacity. He chose not to take that option but would rather cow-down to a group of Liberal foreigners and gain support in that venue.

Cindy McCain wanted to visit troops on a carrier but was told she had to abide by the same rules and could only do it when she accompanied McCain on an official US Senator visit. Since he was other wise engaged, she had to scrap her visit and said she would do it with McCain at a later date. She didn't blame the Pentagon like the baby-Obama did.

How people can't see through him is beyond me.

If Obama had visited the troops, Republicans would have jumped on it as a campaign stunt as the trip, and jet was funded through his campaign. I think we're misunderstanding what they mean when they bring the Pentagon into it. The Pentagon informed the campaign that the trip would be seen as political. Obama's advisor Maj. Gen. Scott Gration was on this trip with Obama as an unpaid advisor.

    Obama talks about Landstuhl decision

In addition, Obama talked with reporters for the first time about his decision to cancel a planned visit to Landstuhl in Germany. "We had scheduled to go. We had no problem at all in leaving press -- we always leave press and staff out, that's why we left it off the schedule," he said, explaining that the campaign had planned to treat the trip the same way they treated a recent visit to Walter Reed, which the senator made without press.

Obama added, "I was going to be accompanied by one of my advisers, a former military officer. And we got notice that he would be treated as a campaign person and it would therefore be perceived as political, because he had endorsed my candidacy but he wasn't on the Senate staff," Obama said, referring to Gen. Scott Gration, who had worked to organize the trip.

"That triggered then a concern that maybe our visit was going to be perceived as political, and the last thing that I want to do is have injured soldiers and the staff at these wonderful institutions having to sort through whether this is political or not or get caught in the crossfire between campaigns. So rather than go forward and potentially get caught up in what might have been seen as a political controversy of some sort, what we decided was that we would not make a visit and instead I would call some of the troops who were there. So that's essentially the extent of the story." http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/07/26/1226532.aspx

If the last thing you want is for your troop visit to be seen as political, then a warning from the Pentagon that it will indeed be seen as political would go a long way towards dissuading you from making that stop.

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Right would have been here criticizing him if he had gone and visited the troops. If people weren't so partisan, it wouldn't be an issue, but I think it's quite easy to see why he decided against it.

Further, Obama did visit the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq without the press. Any media taken of him there was done by the military.
