How? Get a voter registration form, fill it out, and on the political affiliation part of the voter registration form, check the box for Non-Partisan. You should be able to go to your local courthouse and pick up a voter registration form, or through the closest DMV office. These are the options on some forms depending on the state you are in. Choose the bold one:
American Independent Party Democratic Party Green Party Libertarian Party Peace and Freedom Party Republican Party I Decline to State a Political Party Other (Specify) Caveats An independent registerd voter cannot vote in the democrat primaries. He can in republican primaries though. So think about it before you register as an indepent.
Why?
Lou Dobbs idea is that if there's a wave of people registering as Independent it might (a) send a wake-up call to Washington, and perhaps (b) force politicians to stop playing to their registered party members, and start focusing on bigger, more universal issues rather than the wedge issues. Excerpts:
quote: Yet in my entire career, I've literally never heard anyone in Congress argue that lobbyists are bad for America. In 1968 there were only 63 lobbyists in Washington. Today, there are more than 34,000, and lobbyists now outnumber our elected representatives and their staffs by a 2-to-1 margin.According to the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity, from 1998 through 2004, lobbyists spent nearly $12 billion to not only influence legislation, but in many cases to write the language of the laws and regulations. Individual firms, corporations and national organizations spent a record $2.14 billion on lobbying members of Congress and 220 other federal agencies in 2004, according to PoliticalMoneyLine. That's nearly $6 million a day spent to influence our leaders. We really do have the best government money can buy. But as I discuss in my new book, "War on the Middle Class," what if we all resolved that we would not permit either the Republicans or Democrats to waste their time and ours with wedge issues? Both parties love to excite their bases by focusing on wedge issues like gay marriage, the pledge of allegiance, school prayer, judicial appointments, gun control, stem cell research and welfare reform. I am going ballistic against Blue Roamer Things to consider before deciding to go with republican or democrat 1. Flat tax or variable tax: Republicans : Believe in a flat tax. It sounds unfair initially. But If someone earns more, then tax collected is still higher. Democrats: Especially Obama believes in wooing the majority of voters who don't pay tax by exempting them or not changing their tax rates. They usually constitute the top 95% of the country. And they compensate that by taxing at a greater rate people who make more money. They usually constitute the top 5% of the country. Democrats are jealous of rich people if its not them. And if you ever heard of the phrase 'innovation and enterpreneuship must be rewarded' then forget about it in this party. 2. Inequality in abilities
Republicans: Believe in wiping their own ass. Therefore if you believe this is a sure sign of maturity, this party is for you. Democrats: Prefer to call the government to do the job for them. More to follow based on your humorous smiles. IP: Logged | |
