Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin has been uninvited from attending a rally against Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad next week in New York, one day after Hillary Clinton nixed her appearance at the event because the Alaska governor was slated to be there.

“In order to keep the focus on Iranian threats and to ensure that this critical message not be obscured, the organizers of the rally have decided not to have any American political personalities appear,” the organizers, which include several Jewish groups, said in a statement.

In a statement, John McCain expressed disappointment over the decision.

"Governor Palin was pleased to accept an invitation to address this rally and show her resolve on this grave national security issue, regrettably that invitation has since been withdrawn under pressure from Democratic partisans," he said. "We stand shoulder to shoulder with Republicans, Democrats and independents alike to oppose Ahmadinejad's goal of a nuclear armed Iran. Senator Obama's campaign had the opportunity to join us. Senator Obama chose politics rather than the national interest."

A spokesman for the event, Glen Rosencrantz, would not confirm a Politico report that several high-profile Jewish Democrats had pressured the organization to nix Palin from the event.

But in a conference call with reporters Thursday, Ira Forman, the Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, said his group strongly disapproved of Palin's invitation to the event.

“We have a presidential election where the McCain-Palin ticket want to use what’s supposed to be a very, very bipartisan-type of operation to, again, use it as a campaign event," he said.

Thank you for pointing that out, BUD. How anyone can still suggest that Hillary and this crop of Dems are in anyway supporting women's rights is beyond me. We're not just baby-making machines and sexual participants ... which is all the Dems refer to as "women's issues". When it comes to equal pay and equal treatment? Yeah, thanks for bowing out and making excuses for an inferior candidate, Hillary. Glad so many women have worked so hard and sacrificed so much to have you just give up when you deserved to be running for the highest office in the land. Are you keeping 10 steps behind Obama like a proper lady now?

At least if she had come up against McCain and lost, this campaign or at least its voters would have had a fighting chance to be more focused on real issues instead of this pony show excuse for a campaign the Dems are desperately trying to make for an unqualified, inexperienced and unable to make any kind of decisions for himself (Advisors? I haven't been briefed?) pawn of a candidate.

Vice Presidential hopeful and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin had a pretty full schedule today in New York, including meetings with Afghan president Hamid Karzai, Iraqi president Jalal Talabani and Colombian president Alvaro Uribe. Also on her dance card: Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and rock star-turned-humanitarian Bono. These folks are all in town for the fall session of the United Nation’s General Assembly.

In Washington, meanwhile, former Presidential hopeful Senator Hillary Clinton is having some high-powered meetings of her own. She is hosting the seventh annual New York Farm Day. The guest list, according to her office, includes: “producers of New York’s award-winning wines, farm-fresh products, and fresh seafood.”
