Carmina Lopez, a 32-year-old elementary school teacher, is accused of starting a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old boy who was in her sixth-grade class four years ago. Police say a child has come forward with details of the alleged four-year relationship.

Chula Vista police arrested Lopez, 32, Wednesday night in San Diego after a tip from Child Protective Services. According to investigators, Lopez was a sixth-grade teacher at Nestor Elementary School when the sexual relationship began in 2004. The victim was a member of her class, according to investigators.

Lopez faces a litany of criminal charges, including 40 counts of lewd act with a child and 40 counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

The alleged victim is now 15, and police said he is the one who told a counselor he'd been abused by his teacher for years, a woman who'd gotten very close to that student's family.

Some parents at Sunnyslope Elementary, where Lopez was most recently teaching, were outraged by the allegations.

"Words can't describe what I would tell that teacher," one parent said.

Still, at least one parent with a child in that teacher's class is holding judgment.

"The kids love her," Nicole Williams said. "The parents love her. I just don't see her doing anything like that. It's very out of character."

Investigators said Thursday that Lopez became so close with the student's family she was asked to be his godmother.

Williams is holding on to hope that the allegations are untrue.

"I support her," Williams said. "I want her to know if she sees this that we support her, and we believe in her, you know."

Williams is not alone in her support of Lopez.

"Anyone that has taught with Carmina knows what a great teacher she is!" a visitor to NBCSanDiego.com posted in a comment about the story. "It is a sad time in the world that people would believe such a wonderful person would do these things. She didn’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have nothing but respect for her. She has been a wonderful teacher, and I too will celebrate when she is free.

GOODING – A Bliss High School teacher has been charged with two counts of sexual battery of a minor child 16 years of age.

Anna Bettencourt, 38, of Wendell, was arraigned on yesterday in Gooding County.

Magistrate Judge Casey Robinson advised Bettencourt of the charges, both of which carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Substitute teacher arrested on porn charge

PURVIS - Police here arrested a Lamar County substitute teacher Monday on child pornography charges.

The police said they were tipped off by inappropriate text messages on a student's phone.

Andrew Johnson, an investigator with Purvis police, said George Fries, 29, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. at Purvis Middle School after the grandparent of a student saw inappropriate text messages and reported to police.

I do believe that there tend to be double standards when it comes to genders in regards to statutory rape. I do believe that men get much harsher punishments for statutory rape with girls than women do for statutory rape with boys.

I will tell you straight up as a man, I wouldn't have minded having sex with an older woman. I'd see it as her being my mentor in regards to awakening me sexually and teaching me how to please a woman.
I was raised by a mother who seemed to think having sex as a teenager is a bad thing. She was like my mother superior. The thing is that she had had my halfbrother at 15 years old, and she had me at 17 years old. My father was 13 years older than her. She conceived me at 16 years old. Therefore, I was born from statutory rape. My father could have went to jail for what he did. My mom was a teenage runaway and living on her own. My fathered could have went to jail for statutory rape if it was going on in the South....especially an interracial couple.

I think that I would be protective in regards to future children when it comes to sex. I'd probably want the adult man behind bars for having sex with my children if they were the same age as my mom when she conceived me. It would be complicated because of knowing that I was born from statutory rape too. However, I believe that just because my family did something doesn't mean that it's right.

but yeah......Mary Kay Letourneau's are popping up a lot.
