below is a copied article from AP about the "protest" in london today for the start of the G20 conference there. makes me wonder if it wasn't the ENGLISH in us that revolted all those years ago...any left or are we completely diluted now?

seems the banking industry is in for a remake?

LONDON – Chanting G-20 protesters clashed with riot police in central London on Wednesday, overwhelming police lines, vandalizing the Bank of England and smashing windows at the Royal Bank of Scotland. An effigy of a banker was set ablaze, drawing cheers.

More than 30 people were arrested after some 4,000 anarchists, anti-capitalists, environmentalists and others clogged London's financial district for what demonstrators branded "Financial Fool's Day." The protests were called ahead of Thursday's Group of 20 summit of world leaders, who hope to take concrete steps to resolve the global financial crisis that has lashed nations and workers worldwide.

Late in the day, police said a man had been reported to have collapsed near one of the protest camps and responding officers were unable to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. It was unclear if the man was a protester, and the cause of death was under investigation.

The protests in London's financial district — known as "The City" — began as Prime Minister Gordon Brown and President Barack Obama held a news conference at Britain's Foreign Ministry elsewhere in the capital.

A battered effigy of a banker in a bowler's hat hung on a traffic light near the Bank of England as protesters waved signs saying: "Resistance is Fertile," and "Make Love not Leverage."

Bankers have been lambasted as being greedy and blamed for the recession that is making jobless ranks soar. Other banners read "Banks are evil" and "Eat the bankers," and "0 percent interest in others." Some bankers went to work in casual wear Wednesday fearing they could be targeted.

Some bolder financial workers leaned out office windows, taunting the demonstrators and waving 10 pound notes at them. Two men — one wearing a suit — exchanged punches before police intervened.

Groups of protesters converged on the central bank, with Tibetan, Palestinian, communist, and anarchist flags poking out from the crowd. Tensions rose as officers refused to let the protesters leave the small plaza in front of the bank.

Protesters pelted police standing guard at the Royal Exchange with paint, eggs, fruit and other projectiles, and a small group of anarchists, skinheads, and masked protesters repeatedly attacked a police cordon flanking the Bank of England.

I listened to this on CSPAN radio this afternoon, a live tape of the fracas... going to turn on telly now. They had to fire smoke bombs into the crowd. It sounded like a war.

yes, as i started to say up top, the english really are not the docile sheep many think they are. and it was ENGLISHMEN who staged the american revolution. it has been the english for centuries who have made the most definitive moves towards freedoms for the individual, starting with the magna carta perhaps?

however the news stories don't miss a chance to label these protesters as "ists" of one kind or another, ie "fringe" people who really shouldn't be counted, the english will only put up with so much.

yes yes yes! The english have a most respectable revolutionary history. They're independent minded folk through and through. The Magna Carta, Robin Hood, Oliver Cromwell, Guy Fawkes, Thomas Paine, your everyday Parliamentary barfight, plus they're showing possibly the most resistance against a European superstate. Just look at the stink they put up about using the damn Euro! I still have faith in them. Somedays maybe more faith than in my own countrymen.

I saw the Magna Carta years ago while it was on loan to the Smithsonian. It was in the same room as the Declaration. Dizzying.

At Runnymede, at Runnymede,
Oh, hear the reeds at Runnymede:
'You musn't sell, delay, deny,
A freeman's right or liberty.
It wakes the stubborn Englishry,
We saw 'em roused at Runnymede!

And still when mob or Monarch lays
Too rude a hand on English ways,
The whisper wakes, the shudder plays,
Across the reeds at Runnymede.
~ Kipling

*sigh* streeet fighting man. I hope they play it when the revolution starts. Jwhop, I trust you're beginning to organize? You know how to reach me.

Tink, I already O'Bomberproofed my life to the degree possible.

You didn't like my solution for tyrants and dictators. Nevertheless, no one will ever see me marching in protest...anywhere. No buttons, no ribbons, no signs, no militias..which are shot through and through with government informer infiltrators.

Sometimes I think Jefferson had an overly romantic view of revolutions but revolutions kill people and generally, at the end of the day, the wrong people get killed and not the tyrants or their slimy allies.

The hallmark of a successful revolution is that the "right people" get killed when a tyranny is overthrown and the rule of law is reestablished. It does no good to overthrow one tyrant only to pave the way for a different tyrant.

Btw, I did attempt to contact you some time back and never got a response. I figured you either didn't find what I sent interesting enough to respond...or, you valued your privacy. In any event, I deleted your contact info.

its not usually necessary to have an actual revolution but to show yourself willing...as tink pointed out the brits have refused to take up the euro, and they will refuse to do a lot of other things even though they may appear to be willing to go along with a lot of restrictions or regulations..and they haven't had a revolution in hundreds of years...

i was merely pointing out the irony that we think of americans as being the uncompromising ones but it was the english who pulled off our revolution and constitution, pretty much to a man...

and it is the english who are putting themselves on the line in this situation too.

Really katatonic?

An exactly what was the result of all that demonstration/protest...so far?

Brown, O'Bomber and other leaders of the "Socialist Revolution" just agreed to spend yet another Trillion dollars of taxpayer money they don't have. They also agreed to tighten up restrictions on banks, tax havens, i.e., more Socialist control over the economies.

Brown also announced this was a step forward in the "New World Order", a "Progressive World Order"...meaning a Socialist World Order leading to total control.

"“I think a new world order is emerging with the foundations of a new progressive era of international co-operation.”
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2358332.ece

Take Socialism and stuff it where the sun don't shine.

oh jwhop .... revolts are usually messy, yes sometimes crowns are tossed in the gutter waiting to be snatched up by tyrants, yes the professional protesting contingent has long since been infiltrated. But must you be all practible and sensible like that? No fun. I wanna revolt. "Obamaproof"? Now what does that mean exactly? Is this a purely defensive manuever? Hey, I'm trusting men like yourself to be a little more proactive.

I think that too sometimes. :beart: Revolutions desperately needed and begun with the best of intentions can turn bad. Russia. France. Fortune was on our side once, I don't know that it would be again. A revolt might very well be playing into their hands.

that's not fair. The British government might wish this, but I can't/won't believe the majority of the Britih people will put up with this evil when push comes to shove.

You did? Are you sure?

What does O'Bomberproofing mean?

Well TINK, it means the muskets have been disassembled, cleaned, triggers adjusted, oiled, sighted in to shoot 2" high at 100 yards and dead on at 200 yards...and a large supply of powder and musket balls have been laid in....among other things involving finances and food. Hell, I even bought some tinfoil hats and special glasses to counter subliminal government messages and beamed electromagnetic radiation. Can't be too prepared.

I don't know if protest groups have been infiltrated or not. Why do that when they are quick to broadcast what their intentions are? However, militias are a different matter. Did you read about the State of Missouri publishing a report profiling Ron Paul supporters, independent voters and certain others as possible militia members and or domestic terrorists?
http://donklephant.com/2009/03/15/missouri-law-enforcement-eyes-ron-paul-and-bob-barr-supporters-as-possible-terrorists-1/

You wanna revolt? Well then, lead on Ms McDuff; I'll be right behind you.

I wonder if the nuts in government realize they're closer to revolt/revolution right now than at anytime in the last 100 years.

What I said about the Brits is probably true when you consider they've allowed their government to disarm them..long ago, almost everyone there is dependent on government for health care, many for the food they eat, the clothes they wear and housing. Couple that with a government which is spying on them with surveillance cameras everywhere, rules and committees telling what they can and can't do...including when they can put out their garbage cans and you begin to get the picture of people willing to put up with most anything. Besides, what are they going to do about it? Break some windows, overturn some cars, burn some tires or cars in the streets...what? They sure won't be shooting.

Yeah, I'm sure I did. I went back into my old sent mail and found the email(s) I sent. I don't recall who sent me your email address. Perhaps Randall?

jwhop no ONE protest ever accomplished much. how many millions protested the war in iraq around the world and its still going? it was the beginning only in london and it may come to nought.

they might be officially disarmed but plenty of brits tote firepower. and the local beat cops are also gunless...when it comes to it "dependent on the govt" for those things won't mean a thing, and the cameras are easily smashed. doesn't your local garbage company tell YOU when to put out your cans?

and as for the profiling of ron paul supporters, when i mention the profiling of pretty much everyone as possible terrorists you scoff, but if it's someone you sympathize with, those provisions bush put in place are pretty scary aren't they?

but when it comes to it guns are not going to be much protection against what the govt has up its sleeve anyway. and anyone who "revolts" is going to be minimized as an "ist" of some kind. so probably it won't happen until things are REALLY, OBVIOUSLY bad. (maybe 2010, when sat in lib/uranus in aries/ pluto in cap stand off).

one step at a time.

and tink - o'bomberproofing equals hiding your laundered money for a start. they're aiming to restrict the means by which rich people hide, grow, and shelter their moolah. you know, offshore, hedge funds, that kind of stuff.

also keeping the cessna oiled and gassed up and the place in bongabonga shipshape.

of course it would be better if we could just do this stuff at home without worrying about the taxman.

I think there's a lot more to Obomberproofing than laundered money. Most of people who earned their money legitimately are scared of losing even more of it. Retirement funds, college funds, investments, etc. have all suffered, some more drastically than others. With a fear of greater taxation all around, I'm not surprised people are finding all sorts of ways to lower their risks.

Greedy government officials deciding that someone has too much money so they can just take it and do what they want with it is a big, fat load of horse manure. I don't see them taking salary cuts or cutting back on their expenses or offering up all their riches stuffed away in accounts up to the state they "care" so much about.

I won't be surprised, if this insanity continues, if my son's generation decides to drop out of school and sit on its arse expecting "someone else" to provide everything for them with no effort on their own part. Those evil, greedy, working ******** who indebted themselves just to get a higher education? Yeah, they just don't get it.

(Psssst ... Hi, Tink! Really wishing I could head out into the wilds myself at this point.)

the funny thing is eleanore, when people don't have to work they usually do anyway! it gets pretty boring sitting around doing nothing, ask any rich person!! branson hasn't had to work for the last couple of decades.

i was being somewhat flippant with the laundered money remarks, but not entirely. and i know some people have watched their retirement dwindling away.

i could say, well whatever, i have always known that i will probably be working when i drop, why should anybody get to sit on their fat arses counting their interest-inflated piles? but i really don't think we serve anyone but those who would keep us down by fighting amongst ourselves so i limit myself in my teasing.

and i'm afraid the only hills left to run to may be the hills on mars before long. but i have faith that we will find a way through this and it too shall pass...

Ah now you're talkin' my game!

Ok watch me go back and forth between hopeless idealism and cynical paranoia. If anyone will rise up in Europe it will be the English. Everything has been infiltrated.

Why infiltrate protest groups? Why infiltrate anything. Scurrying back to Big Brother with info is only the half of it. They infiltrate to control.

I wonder if the nuts in government realize they're closer to revolt/revolution right now than at anytime in the last 100 years.

I think they do, Big Daddy. I'm not sure if this is a calculated risk or part of their strategy. Overturning those cars you mentioned feels nice but it doesn't accomplish much. What it can do is frighten the hell out of the middle class. And you need an involved middle class for a proper revolution. Lord knows the middle class likes to biitch and moan but, so far, its all talk. Right now, I'd say they're maybe nervous, but I wouldn't say they're angry. If the lower class get too violent, the middle class will circle the wagons and we can kiss a productive revolution goodbye.

I haven't seen that particular link, but I've heard the story. There's so much wrong with these DHS 'fusion centers' I don't know where to begin.

It was juni. Maybe when my husband was in the hospital? I missed so many emails those months and a lot was deleted. Generally, I know better than to ignore Leos.

Hi Eleanore!

Juni has a quiet retreat in the boonies. I have a room booked if and when the nasty stuff starts hitting the fan. Rooms are pretty cheap ... but are you willing to bunk with a llama?

That's really funny. Why shouldn't they? It's not like it's a restricted option. Everyone can technically choose to invest some portion of their income.

If I choose to invest my money to plan for my future and you don't ... well, don't we each deserve to reap what we sow? I didn't steal the money, I didn't force anyone to do anything with my money, and, in fact, investors actually help the economy and help technology and other important fields like medicine progress.

I just don't understand. I don't want to be a burden on my children or anyone else. If that means I have to skip a vacation every year and not follow fashion trends and whatever else in order to plump up the money I'll have available when I retire or am just too sick to work, what's wrong with that? Some people choose not to do that; that's their choice, not mine.

I've known plenty of people who blow their money every paycheck. Never save. And it isn't as though these people are hermits eating cat food to afford their bills. They've got, like, new shoes and new computers and they take vacations and otherwise spend what money they have. They can resent me all they want for not living their fabu lifestyle but in my old age I know I'll have done my best to prepare for my own life. That is, unless they feel entitled to my money and the government just gives it to them.

But, if it does come to much more of that ... I either won't be an American any more, I'll have died in some revolution or I'll be sitting on my arse so no one can leech off of me. I think we'd find plenty o' otherwise capable people who, barring an inability to escape, would find themselves equally unable to work for money and who would be otherwise busy. Why work when no one has to? Everyone, get a hobby. The money will surely come from somewhere.

And then, when work is no longer profitable, we'll find ourselves in the same place so many others have ... slaves to a government that needs you to work for nothing and that grudgingly affords you the "bare neccessities" to keep you alive just so long and you damn well better be grateful and keep your mouth shut. History does repeat itself, after all.

But I doubt it will get to that. And in fact, as leftfield as this sounds, I'm reminded of ol' John Titor. Remember him? Surely someone must have one of the links available ....

******

Tink Llamas? I could share with the llamas. They keep you nice and toasty in the winter, yes? I'm sure my little guy(s) would be very happy with that arrangement. And hubby's a fairly strong guy; I'm sure together we could prove useful in return for shelter in the boonies. I'm thinking those nomads in Siberia have got it figured out pretty well, too.
