Here are some of the paintings of Koko and Michael the gorillas. Some of them are quite incredible, especially the one Michael painted of his dog. Koko and Michael do American Sign Language, and named all their paintings themselves. www.koko.org/kokomart/art.html

That was great Chandra, thanks! I didn't know they had a site online with their work! I was especially impressed by some of Michael's paintings, like the Toy Dinosaur one, and picture of flowers he did And Koko's piece about love was so pretty...I love the colors and brush strokes. Such talented souls.

Don't they just 'scream' with emotion? You can feel the intensity in the painting....

Wonder what dolphins would paint if they had the chance?

Chandra, you're so right...that is a good question YIVY! I wonder if anybody's ever tried to figure out a way...if it would be feasible, if dolphins would like to paint what their world looks like, what our world looks like to them

Adwen ~ I made a donation to them once, so they put me on their mailing list. I get quarterly newsletters and I always read them almost cover to cover. I have a postcard painting of a Heart that Koko did. I also have a photograph of Koko and Penny. Did you know they are building a preserve on Maui for Koko and Ndume to live?

Sorry to break the sad news to everyone, but Michael died last year. I cried when I got the newsletter about it.

I read on the site link about Michael's death and how Koko and Ndume are dealing with it, it was very sad. It goes to show that humans aren't the only species on this planet who grieve

Nepthys,
I also heard about Michael and it made me cry too
He really touched me when I saw the Nature program about koko and him. In one scene, Penny ask him what happened to his parents. He was upset and actually signed that they had been killed by humans in Africa. I had been amazed by him ever since, especially because he was a very good artist.
You're so sweet to donate. I hope they can move to Maui soon.
The also had on the show how koko grieved when her kitten died. She went into this room and cried for days
Koko is awesome

Yes, I think it's so cute how she named her kitten "All-Ball". I saw on TV when Penny told her that the kitten died, got hit by a car. What a heart-breaker.
On Koko's birthday, she got presents, had a birthday feast with all kinds of food, it was so cute.
I love reading the dialogue in the newsletters when they sign/talk to her or Michael or Ndume.
Maybe you guys can get on the mailing list? Just make a donation and you're automatically put on it.
I believe *ALL* animals are very intelligent, emotional, and wise. They understand a lot more than people think they do; and I even believe a lot of animals are more intelligent that a lot of humans! One of my friends who is vegan, and I have discussed that we think that animals are higher/more evolved than us Spiritually, they know they are incarnating to be slaughtered as a pig or chicken for some human's food; they know they are incarnating as whales to balance the energy of the earth but at the same time be slaughtered for human products.
I believe that domesticated animals are here to teach us unconditional Love , and that wild animals are here to teach us too, in learning their ways through instinct, etc., and also for their own Soul journeys.
