I'll share this with you though it's not really a very happy poem but I wrote it about 3 years ago. It's the lyrics to a song that i worked on as a shared effort with me and my friend from Norway. You can hear the song by visiting (Free Music!) http://www.mp3.com/davidinman
and clicking the version that matches your internet connection. Here's the poem/lyricsThe Heart that Knows no Darkness
Wandering lonely,
The night so long and cold.
Thinking if only,
I was on a straighter road.
Same song keeps playing,
Dark music in my head.
A million miles of emptiness,
A crooked path instead.
Wet wind blowing,
'neath an orange harvest moon.
With no way of knowing,
I might have left too soon.
One hundred miles of walking,
One hundred thoughts of turning back.
But no two ways about it,
My life is a one way track.
Yet deep within the mystery,
I feel you now so close to me.
It's not quite what it used to be
But plain enough for me to see.
In that light that cuts the night,
Exposed in all it's starkness,
Suddenly shines, together with mine,
The Heart that knows no darkness.
The wind cries war,
As the soldiers shout.
The plowshares hook is turned about.
Red sky is dawning on the new days edge.
Grey tanks prowling just beyond the hedge.
Then that sky is filled, C-4 and A-10
All hell is loosed, in the no-mans land.
And who's the one that gave the command?
As bullets kick up the desert sand?
But, still, on my road,
I am outside of town.
Alone and so cold,
I'm writing it down.
Just me and the moon,
Goddess of lovers
Just me in the moonlight,
Running for cover.
Yet deep within the mystery,
Of all you have revealed to me.
I'm not sure if it's supposed to be
Quite that plain for me to see.
In that light that cuts the night,
Explodes in all it's starkness,
Suddenly shines, together with mine,
The Heart that knows no darkness.
BRIDGE:
I wrote down this prayer,
As the last man died.
I'm not sure where,
It's hard to decide.
I think if you're coming,
That we'd better hide,
All the bodies that wash
In the crimson tide.
The prayer I've written
Is the last chapters end.
And the words I am saying
Is the prayer that I send.
It's hard to decide,
So I can't say when,
Does it really matter,
We'll know by then.
END BRIDGE:
Yet deep within the mystery,
A moment of yours, a lifetime to me.
Not nearly all that it longs to be
But given some time, then we might see.
In the light that cuts the night,
Revealed in all it's starkness
Suddenly shines, together with mine,
The Heart that knows no darkness.
Just about then the curtain falls,
an eerie light surrounds it all.
And no-one hears the poets call,
No-ones near the wailing wall.
One voice falls silent, then others in turn.
Cold light of the moon and the stars as they burn.
We welcome in love, this dawning new-age.
We welcome in love, this dawning new-age.
We welcome in love, this dawning new-age.
Begin a new chapter, we turn a new page.
Yet deep within the mystery,
Of all that is so new to me.
It's hard to say just what will be
A new world born in the endless sea.
And in that light that cuts the night,
Witnessed in it's starkness
Suddenly shines, together with mine,
The Heart that knows no darkness.
Repeat last chorus -end
