Straight Through Bus Stop Blues
R. Dafremen

City lights
Pretty lights that flash and fade
Into the eager night
The blur of the architecture
On a city night
If the light hits your eyes just right
You'd swear your life
Flashed before your eyes
This can't be right
Just now
My head is clearer than its ever been
And I see me in the same damned place
Night time sets my mind to wandering
And I see me in the same damned place
You..you're going home
Moving up moving on, you're gone
And I'm the one whose gonna take you
Though you must agree
That the irony of the situation
Does beg the question:
Who'll be taking me?

I'm the operator
Watching
Waiting for my bus
Another dull day's wait ahead of me
Constantly
It never comes

"I'm the operator
If you'd like to catch the bus
Just pay your fare and take a seat
Won't you please?
I'm in a rush."
Said the operator.
And I'm the operator

Pretty city lights
Pity lights that tend to light up the night
Light the way to the darker things in life
When the bills are there
But the rent is paid sooner than its ever been
All the dreams that we had back then
But lost along the way remain
With a stain that runs through my veins
To numb the pain
It's gone
Then I see me in the same damned place
Each nameless face
Precedes another one
And I see me in the same damned place
You'll be going home
Moving up moving on, you're gone
You're on a bonafide mission
Chase the circles up and under
But I wonder could you tell me
When the circles are done?
I'm the operator
Wasting
Waiting for my ride
Seen a lot of poor souls
Step alone from the cold
To where its warm inside
I'm the operator
Searching
Watching for the one
Bus stop waiting
Tracing circles til it never comes
It never comes.
