When I was seventeen
One day I returned home from school
My family were no longer there
My home was invaded and burnt down
By the red rebels
I had to escape to the north
And I wandered for a while

So I joined the army
And fought against the rebels
The war was imminent
And the training was harsh
We were coated, everyday
With ice and snow

We crossed the country
Walked through the mountains
With immensely heavy gear on our backs
In the meantime, we had to survive
For survival was sacred to man
For it meant much more than dying

Battles after battles
One people, two parties
Killing one another
What for
What for
For the cause of liberty
For the cause of democracy

Blood covered the land and the water
And the red army took over the nation
We had to flee
Across the ocean
As I turned back and looked at my beloved homeland
One last time
I said to myself
We shall return
We shall return
