Alive only in name, I'd lived
Uncounted endless years, alone.
No stranger to eternity,
I wandered through the depths, unknown.

Through untold days of blacks and grays
I'd borne the burden of my doom:
To search my soul until time ends
And find naught but a darksome gloom.

And so I did, and neither knew
Of fiery sun nor crystal moon,
Nor springtime blossom's gentle bloom.

Across the eons vast, I was,
And brooding every dreary day
O'er life's unanswered mysteries
I searched in vain for brighter gray.

I sat apart on shadowed throne,
And watched the lives of men go by,
Their passage distanced from their birth
By scarcely more than blink of eye.

A thousand by a thousand thousand
Hopeless dreams drew up and died,
And long my sorrows multiplied.

But then, on one unnumbered day
Amidst that ceaseless pain and strife
A wondrous miracle was wrought:
That you had been brought into life.

In you, the force of all of life
The light of all the suns,
And all the vibrance of the world
Were rolled up into one.

And as I fixed my gaze on you,
And took you in with my own eyes,
That up to then had for all time
Had nothing of beauty to prize,
Where had been only blacks and grays
In absence of light's golden rays,
Your radiance did far surpass
That paradise of time's first days.

And as I turned my thoughts to you,
And took you in with my own mind,
That up to then had for all time
Had nothing but despair to find,
Where discord ruled eternally
In fragmented cacophony,
My heart of hearts did sing your praise
In perfect, joyous harmony.

And in that moment was erased
My endless tale of tragedy
As, wrapped in love's tender embrace,
My soul was full of only thee.

And while I stood in awe of you,
My newfound font of unkown bliss,
Your body went back to the earth,
Your soul to the abyss.

And with that grim acceptance
Of the wholly beaten soul,
I put back on my sorrows and
Crawled back into my hole.

And now, alive only in name,
I'll live my eons vast, alone.
No stranger to eternity,
I'll gaze out from the depths, unknown.

Through untold realms of unshed tears,
I'll search on through the ceaseless night
In darkness made the darker by
The memory of brilliant light.

The entire poem was great.. really great.. but my favorite was the last lines. It really wrapped up the feeling, and tied a bow on it. Perfect last line.
Good stuff!!!!
