How wide is the desert? How long is the journey to cross its length? What seeker knows that has not crossed it?
How then to know if one has an ample enough supply of water to cross? Your water could be measured in barrels or bellyfulls, but the desert does not advertise its distance and so your preparations are in vain until that day when you are possessed of an endless supply.
In this, the crossing of the desert of human evolution, even an endless supply is wasted on cups which are full of holes. Cover the holes first, then drink deep and cross the desert content in the knowledge that your cup will be found full when again you thirst.
