Stuck on you
I can see why songs are written on the positives
two together like glue
changing me and changing you
what they sometimes leave out
are the times when connection was only a matchstick bridge
one wrong step it crumbles or lights a fire underfoot
the negatives aren't fully explored
until you see the ways the glue melts into other things
the way I am me and you are you
and when you can't build a new bridge
with a foundation only built on rainbows
( which are really only a trick of the eye
built on prisms yes but gone when the dappling water is moved from the air)
Is the walkway paved with what I see now..
I am stuck
and sometimes I inhale the glue
it is in the form of unsaid fears and much shed tears
it is in the way you can say these things and I will believe you
it is the rage I feel when I look at you
and the love I feel when I test the glue
this is extreme and not apprehension
this is the movement that rocks the foundation
this is the now and not the before
this is the opening and the slamming door
Last night I sunk into the bed we share
you deep in sleep, me heavy with tortured care
my toe brushed yours and you recoiled
body shuddering
I thought Yes. Thats right
what you feel when it is only night
and the words you say won't make it right
But if I brought it up now
after you once again saved me with your practicality
ridiculing whimsy away from me
if I brought up these things I clearly see
You'd say; "Don't be crazy.

and you love me."
But we're stuck, don't you see?
