The Poem Before the Universe

Maybe I am more like my artists
Than I thought. I have a love life like
Infinite galaxies, like seasons.
How spring starts with flowers and then
To raging summer and I am weather-beaten
And all the birds of love are broken
When I get to winter's end.

So I sleep in my cove of words.
Poetry is my lifeboat...
And well, I am the sinking Titanic.
I can't say that words define me
But metaphors flow through my soul
Like July rain
And the drama queen dreams of OGT haze.

Without poetry
I would dip into the icy
Atlantic waters that first brought me here.
That I flew over five times
In a search for words
And trying to stitch self to self
Across five thousand miles which
Is only an inch or two
From the top of the moon.
(And I’ve been there before)

‘Cause galaxies stretch in my womb
Of inoculations and lyrical explosion
Drum line beats drum up my heart
And the stars have me star-struck.

Words and dreams sweep me
Away from the harm of reality
Because I am of the poets and the poets are of me
I am in the universe and it is in me.

Like late night dreams and Socrates
How it defines me.
Even though English doesn't make sense to me
But I profess that I am actually very stupid
Suffer from low self-esteem
But loneliness makes great poetry.
Besides, words are free
They belong to you
Just as much as they belong to me.

My mind drones blank on my pillow
As I sleep the sleep
And dream the dreams
Of a thousand eternities.
I rip the pages of my calendar
To write late-night poetry
As if each stanza, each word reveals
Something more than the days (daze)
Of our world.
Even though I'm not worried about tomorrow.

Because life beats through me right now
As I recite this.
I struggle to rhyme and make meaning
Because the word poetry is a metaphor in itself
A universe in itself.
And poetry can define much more than me
But it realizes the span of my dreams
And poetry will keep invading me
Until I am the universe.
One, two, three, poetry captures me
The beginning and the end of me.

After all, no one is famous before they die
But fame is nothing when the feeling of poetry
Is such a high.
My veins are not worth dollars and cents.
They are worth progress in art and in the end
Progress is a music coming from me
A simple rhythm that grows in all of us.

And sometimes I channel the poetry gods.
I am their prostitute
To infuse with words
Of the netherworld
As poetry seeps through me like
Geography, geology, astronomy,
Astrology
And I can live futures and presents
Travel across Chinas and orbit
The realms of infinity
With just this simple rhythm
That dwells deep within
My heart, soul, mind.

Body parts are sacred
Like an arm, a wrist, a hand...
I offer it to you
The same one that spills
Secrets and stories untold.
My poets and artists
EMERGE!
Let us bleed over lands
And take over the world.

P.S. I know I used the word “poetry” 13 times in this poem.

That's what I thought!

Fragments of the poem resonated with me, it was fun to read!
