Tender
skin

like I've never let in
danger for a dance
Though I've stepped on a few
feet
it had been an accident
I suppose
took my inexperience out
with their toes

slender
wrists
lithe labor twists
let me risk the wrath of my own bones
growing old before I know
the way to truly make them grow
I'm not a fan of milk
but yogurt is like cold smooth silk
and berries tempt the tender ridges when I swallow them
like sin
I love to let them in.

Rib
caged
exploring my barraged body with baggage
I will stay for a while, I like the view
every once and a while, anew
like to you
I see the elemental
(a mental file to page)
the sinew ripple, hardened nipple,
scars that show my life
don't cripple,
they pave
and are read like a map leading toward the sacred sap

Stretched like a cat
flexible as an acrobat
in mind as well as this old vessel
carries me inward and onward
a journey I don't share with all
and it makes my body tall
stronger now not a waif to fall
from the first big gust of wind I'm in
But bending like a reed or a blade
of grass rigid but movable
strong and loveable
weak and vulnerable
if you know where to pinch
sometimes I will give an inch and sometimes make you pay
but I don't see it as evil or angered
I see it as impassioned will
imperfect still
like my body I hang to dry
when the hands meet the eyes
and I forget to try
to cry
Such crazy duality
sheltered in the skin I wear
such shattered reality when I dissect what is mine to care
And I do.
I care
for me and the potential I see
and the warrior cries that come from me
and sharing the movement of my sea
sharing the movement that moves me
bones and muscle
spark and wet
I'll ante up and raise the bet.

Thank you so much!
What a sweet thing to say! More than sweet.
I checked out some of his stuff...
I see where you drew the conclusion (though it is hard to view myself objectively- which is what the poem was about)
I very much appreciate the comparison, as I enjoyed what I read.
Very visceral.
