Regret for things said or done
tear me apart

over and over they play
in a small theater in my brain

pondering how situations could have been
different

as though the endless rehash will alter what was

praying that this or that will not be a
occasion that leads

to the painful amputation from you
later in life

it appears as though I fell short of
my ideal yet again

I cringe inside when I sense her there
invading me

perhaps she cannot be banished

I will hold out and prevail over her
