Wowwwwww, I was thinking of ideas for craft fairs that didn't involve using a sewing machine (too expensive with the fuel crisis) and I had a little look at origami. I can make cranes and stuff already. There are these little balls of beauty called kusudama. I am going to make me some of them! I've ordered 600 sheets of origami paper today. Each one involves about 70 sheets! Aren't they stunning? I reckon I could string them to make garlands. I would really like to get into making decorations for festivals and parties. I did bar work for a couple who are going to hold a small festival next year so I'm going to get busy folding and get a portfolio together. I'll post some of my own if I can do em! Link to the genius that made them at the bottom. I am VERY excited! If you have any other bright ideas about how they could be used I'd like to hear it. http://puupuu.ojaru.jp/galle/gallery.html

Ooo what a great idea! They look complicated. I wonder how long it would take to make one? When I looked at the first one, I thought: ...'that would look nice in someone's hair' Are they all made in ball-form; do they have to be made that way? Or could you make half of one, with one side being flat to attatch a barrette to? I think they would make lovely ornaments for baby mobiles as well! Dont you think? I've been working on some different kind of mobiles myself, so that came to mind. Let us know how you go and take pics! Best of luck! IP: Logged |

They look strikingly like Mandalas. You could title them ( Universe, Seed, OM, Sacred Geometry, Dimensions etc) and hang them in nice box frames. They could stand alone as great pieces of decorative art. I'm picturing black backgrounds like they are shown above (representing the Void ) in large box frames. Maybe with mats that surround them instead of backed up against the background. I'm getting excited for you. Keep us posted. IP: Logged |

I immediately thought they would make excellent Christmas tree balls but I thought that was sort of like garland so it would get me a big 'ol X on the quiz show so I was quiet. shhh. But yeah, you know how a different color scheme seems to be popular each season... add a few of them thar paper birdies in the same color scheme and you'd have the money making scheme of the century. How fast can you fold? IP: Logged |

Great ideas you clever, clever people!!!1) Baby mobiles (cranes would look great too) 2) Box frames 3) Table centerpieces 4) Hanging lanterns 5) Hair decorations (the flowers are not flat but I think you could put a wire through them rather than sticking onto a barrette) 6) Christmas baubles I also thought, as you can make each five-pointed flower individually, for about 30p that I could just stick each one on a stick, sell it for £1 and hey presto, flower stems. Capricorn north node says build a creative empire, and I'm gonna! It took me all afternoon just to make one flower! But I'm getting faster and I no longer have to look at the guidance. By the way, YouTube is amazing for learning origami if you're interested. I think I could make a whole ball in about 3 hours eventually. They are quite large, but can be scaled down to bauble size (that was a great idea Mel, not the same thing as a garland, and I do a Christmas market in October and they'll sell like hotcakes there!). I think they could be made in white paper as that would look amazing under a UV light in a festival, cheap to make too. I'll post pics next week. I'm making flowers like this:

Wheels!!Those are lovely! I like the dangly bit on the bottom... I bet there is a way you could turn those into lights. I don't know if you would have to use a different kind of paper so they wouldn't burn, but that would look soooo cool!! Keep em coming!! IP: Logged |

Ah! I was re-reading this thread and got thinking about 26T's comment on June 30th last year: quote: Or could you make half of one, with one side being flat
and thought, oooh, I could do a picture. So here's my picture. It's called Waterlilies as it looks like my boyfriend's water garden in the rain. It's not quite done yet, I have to add more sequins and circles and possibly some smaller "waterlilies" to balance it out a bit, but you get the general idea. Sorry for the fuzziness! I'll post again when it's finished. IP: Logged |

omg, I love that!!! How creative of you! The lilies are gorgeous and the sparkly circles really give the effect of rain drops & ripples on a pond. So awesome, wheels. Thanks for sharing! !IP: Logged |

It might even look great in a deep box frame. That way you could hang it without having to worry about it getting dusty - or dust accumulating in the crevices of the flowers.I would buy one of those off of you. So cool! IP: Logged |
