The deed creeps through late at night
when I am lying in bed and there’s no light
to show me there’s a better way
to survive until the next day.

I lie in bed with the gun in my hand
as I wait for the demand
to do the shooting.
Then I ask myself “ What are you doing!”
as the gun faces the victim
and I’m wishing it would evaporate in front of him.

I fall into a deeper and deeper slumber
as the sound of thunder
erupts and red rain
falls from the back of my brain
onto the white floor.
I have seen it all before.
My death isn’t caused by anyone but me.
What will be, will be.

The deed creeps through late at night
when there is no light.
The gun’s cold mouth is in mine
and an empty bottle of wine.
