I know the pain of the empty cradle
how its endless creaking can awaken
even the soundest sleeper
and the agony of a wayward husband
whose sidelong glances always and never
mean somethingI know the pain of being ill and discounted
of being small and unseen
exploding inside with something bigger
than everyones expectations
reaching out with formidable weapons
wound others
wound yourself
by pen or by paintbrush, it makes no matter The quest to be heard must be fed
or one can drown out the screaming
with fruity flavored poisons
and blurry, noisy nights
like frosting on a broken cake
it covers up the lumps and cracks
which threaten discovery In the severe and unforgiving
light of day
oh how an Artist suffers
to see things so clear
that they can be replicated on a canvas
is as much a curse as a blessing
it allows one to see the beauty
as well as the decay
to see the promise while looking into
the abyss Lies become the fuzzy shapes
that never become clear
deceit is the slippery paint
that hardens when left unattended
and the brushes represent
