Kieron's tips for landscape painting

1 "Go on holiday to where you really want to go, and be inspired."

2 "Start with acrylics, then watercolours, then pastels and then oils"

3 When you set out to do a landscape, "start with the sky first, top to bottom."

4 "When you do distance, it's lighter, and when you do foreground it comes darker."

5 "If you're doing a figure in the winter, do a brown head, leave a small gap, do a blue jacket and brown legs. Then with the gap get a red pastel and do a flick of red so it looks like a scarf."

6 "Keep on painting."

My Venus in Scorpio
doesn't "get" all these
paintings of beached boats
and beach houses.

Why is this cartoonishly simple
scene-painting so popular?

The pastel and water color ones,
especially, all look the same to me.

It's cool that he's so young,
but I hope his art isnt always
going to be so boring.

I say "boring",
because it is, to me.

But I'm sure if my Venus
was in Taurus (and not
tightly conjunct Uranus;
as in my Draconic Chart),
I might find it beautiful;
soothing or comforting,
maybe even inspiring.

I don't know...

Is it wrong to share my view,
if I cannot say something good?

I hate it when someone comes in
and just shoots down my thread.

I dont want you to feel that way.

I just feel like saying, "Big Deal!"

You understand that.

Hi! No, I dont mind what you said at all! Why would I?
Big Deal!

I think what people find amazing about his work is the techniques he uses and understanding of values, tones, color harmony, blending, layout, etc that he grasps this at such a young age and without much technical knowledge. I agree (partially) that the scenes might be somewhat "boring" and done by many, but there's more to it than that. I think the scenes are gently soothing and poetic mostly.

It doesnt have to be different or "in your face", evoking strong emotions, or strange to be brilliant.

My Venus isnt in Taurus either. I'm kind of happy about that.
