The Astronomer In the shadow of the temple my friend and I saw a blind man sitting alone. And my friend said, “Behold the wisest man of our land.”Then I left my friend and approached the blind man and greeted him. And we conversed. After a while I said, “Forgive my question; but since when has thou been blind?” “From my birth,” he answered. Said I, “And what path of wisdom followest thou?” Said he, “I am an astronomer.” Then he placed his hand upon his breast saying, “I watch all these suns and moons and stars.” ------- from the Madman by Jubran Khalil Jubran IP: Logged |

hehe, @CS you should keep in mind that this is a madman talking (the book is titled madman) so dont take the face valuein short, what is meant is that wisdom comes from the inside, thats why a blind man, who doesnt have the prejudice of a man who can see, is the wisest man around. he figured out that to be wise you have to forget the tangible and focus on the intangible IP: Logged |

VENUS THANKS TONS!!! The first one itself overwhelmed me, welled up the eyes with tears. What magic!! What Power! TRUTH in all its glory and beauty! His parables are like groups of beautiful women. Sorry, i couldn't help it. Too strong a temptation. I am posting it here.
HOW I BECAME A MADMAN You ask me how I became a madman. It happened thus: One day, long before many gods were born, I woke from a deep sleep and found all my masks were stolen -- the seven masks I have fashioned and worn in seven lives -- I ran maskless through the crowded streets shouting, "Thieves, thieves, the cursed thieves." Men and women laughed at me and some ran to their houses in fear of me. And when I reached the market place, a youth standing on a house-top cried, "He is a madman." I looked up to behold him; the sun kissed my own naked face for the first time. For the first time the sun kissed my own naked face and my soul was inflamed with love for the sun, and I wanted my masks no more. And as if in a trance I cried, "Blessed, blessed are the thieves who stole my masks." Thus I became a madman. And I have found both freedom and safety in my madness; the freedom of loneliness and the safety from being understood, for those who understand us enslave something in us. But let me not be too proud of my safety. Even a Thief in a jail is safe from another thief.

Hey Venus how are you? I have changed my user id to Love&Light. Anyways, i couldn't enter LL for the last 1 1/2 months. Don't know what the problem was as i could do so today without having any solution to it. Guess what, we are collecting some good books' names for our office library and i have recommended The Madman. The Prophet is already there. Btw have you read Rumi. I havn't. But liked him instantly the other day when i read only a few stanzas. I am recommending two of his books too. I am so excited. Lets see whether they are chosen/available here. IP: Logged |

“My view is that if your philosophy is not unsettled daily then you are blind to all the universe has to offer.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson “For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson “In modern times, if the sole measure of what’s out there flows from your five senses then a precarious life awaits you.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson, Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries “The atoms of our bodies are traceable to stars that manufactured them in their cores and exploded these enriched ingredients across our galaxy, billions of years ago. For this reason, we are biologically connected to every other living thing in the world. We are chemically connected to all molecules on Earth. And we are atomically connected to all atoms in the universe. We are not figuratively, but literally stardust.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson “I look up at the night sky, and I know that, yes, we are part of this Universe, we are in this Universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the Universe is in us. When I reflect on that fact, I look up—many people feel small, because they’re small and the Universe is big, but I feel big, because my atoms came from those stars .” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson “I watch all these suns and moons and stars.” -The Astronomer http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles/a/below_above.html http://www.thehumanist.org/humanist/09_sept_oct/TysonInterview.html
The Humanist: Dr. deGrasse Tyson, it’s great to be with you here at the 68th Annual American Humanist Association Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. Is this your first humanist conference? Neil deGrasse Tyson: My very first. I didn’t even know they existed. I guess I’m a little out of it, being a scientist all my life. The Humanist: Well, we’re really glad you’re here and that you’ve discovered us, in a sense. What are your impressions so far? Tyson: Everybody is friendly, the topics are all very interesting, and it’s clear that there is quite a lot of work to be done to make sure we have the country that we all thought we were given 230 years ago when it was founded. AmbitionThree men met at a tavern table. One was a weaver, another a carpenter and the third a ploughman. Said the weaver, "I sold a fine linen shroud today for two pieces of gold. Let us have all the wine we went." "And I," said the carpenter, "I sold my best coffin. We will have a great roast with the wine." "I only dug a grave," said the ploughman, "but my patron paid me double. Let us have honey cakes too." And all that evening the tavern was busy, for they called often for wine and meat and cakes. And they were merry. And the host rubbed his hands and smiled at his wife; for his guests were spending freely. When they left the moon was high, and they walked along the road singing and shouting together. The host and his wife stood in the tavern door and looked after them. "Ah!" said the wife, "these gentlemen! So freehanded and so gay! If only they could bring us such luck every day! Then our son need not be a tavern-keeper and work hard. We could educate him, and he could become a priest." http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jrcole/gibran/madman/madman.htm A priest is to still roll his sleeves and labor every morning or else miss a vital part of life.

Well its old world, The thing I get from it was two groups of people got what they wanted and both were happy. No harm was done. I wasn't paying much attention to anything else so I may have missed something that you caught. Hey I am human, I make mistakes.. I make good on them though. * I mean Old World because its rings heavy with a Pisces/Virgo theme, makes my teeth grind a lil bit to be honest. The Tyson quotes are more my speed.* Nice talking to you Venus. IP: Logged |

Ambition, Its funny how the people of the east say things like this are bad. They are when they are cannibalistic in their expression. However when ambition is re-directed it can become a more powerful tool for honest goodness than anything I have heard preached. Difference is one is active and is being lived/experienced (human being) The other is being kicked into your ear... Labor/Aid/Knowledge are great basics.(Aqua/Leo will be here in due time, Quality.) As Mulla Nasrudin the fool tells it:There were four travelers who met up one evening. Each of them were from different countries and were poor, each haveing only one coin each. As they talked and shared stories of traveling, they became hungry. Pooling their money, they decide to go to the town and buy food. The Chinese man said that he really wanted Taizee. The Arab wanted Anab. The Persian wanted Angur while the Turkish man wanted uzum. They fell to arguing over what to buy and the situation became quite ugly, with all of them screaming and yelling at each other. A Sufi traveling passed by and approached the group. After all had settled down a bit, the Sufi said, "Give me all your money and I will decide what to bring you for dinner". The group agreed and gave him the money and the Sufi went to the local village. Shortly he returned with only one item, grapes. As the Sufi approached with the large bunch of grapes, the faces of all the men were lit with joy. It was indeed what they had all wanted. Taizii, Anab, Angur, and Uzum are all different words in different languages for the same thing...grapes. ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ IP: Logged |

Red/Black seedless are my favorite. Sour grapes are not my thing. Slightly frozen sweet grapes on a hot summer day is a welcome treat. IP: Logged |
