I think I still have issues
Unresolved yearnings of past
I see a chance to find a fresh take
and I feel drawn to see it through

I spent those years of high school
self-contained and disconnected
a lonely cheerful girl who smiled
Confident and yet dejected

I never had love in my grasp
I wished for unreachable boys
I attended every dance in solo style
Loved the music, but lacked in joy

This Homecoming Dance would be such fun
So much better with my loving partner by my side
I can see a way to clear out old aches
Write a new story of affection and pride
