This is based off a real tale in Portuguese history, of King Pedro to his lover Inez who was the lady in waiting to his Queen Constance, the tale will be explained in the poem, Oh Inez, treasure of my heart, Life of my soul, And more beautiful then any art, How was life with you dull? Oh happiness to me was known, With my faithful lover true, Oh God, would I have traded my throne, All for the love of you, Constance never cared for I, Who tended her every need, Even after every lie, I sewed within her my seed, But I wanted it for you, Comely Inez my dear, You made me anew, You wiped away every tear, I would rip myself at thy feet, And with the dagger, gush the blood from my heart so sweet, Only to you to stagger, Just to kiss those pale toes, Those perfect angelic things, That man or God could never know, Save me, lowliest of kings, And oh, did my father send, You to the farthest reaches of the east, With savages around my beautiful friend, I couldn't endure the thought so beast, And so I sought to find you, But Lord end me, he found you first, And oh my sweet Inez adieu!, He murdered you, my heart submersed, And when I found you by the lake, I held you close in my arms, crying for the Lord me to take, Your lifeless corpse could feel no alarms, As I wept for you, So despaired, so hopeless, And doubtful too, To love ever again so careless, Your golden hair wet straggled, Your pale skin, dead and decayed, Your beautiful face, blue and mangled, And lifeless hands gave me no aid, And after my vengeance To that horrid monster so cruel, I gave thee a tomb of reverence, To tell the world of this lovely jewel, For in death were you a queen, In life you could not have that right, The most beautiful seen, My Inez, your soul shall never leave my sight, IP: Logged |
