II saw a man dressed in white in an alleyway in my veins. He was cowering to the ground, his body and his shadow mixing and becoming one, shivering and shaking violently under the warm street light. I ran to comfort him with blisters in my feet only to find him snickering as he holds an old picture of me dressed in frills of innocence and naivety. I walked away, roaring as red as his blood-shot eyes until I shattered in my dreams. I was weaved into a new reality, in white. Holding an old picture of you in a place I’d never been. II I trickled down your mind to find a clue or two in a dusty green aluminum box. She said the key was in my tongue but I couldn’t find a thing. I searched my blackened heart through the endless piles of grime and sunken beneath were cold memories of you sailing away from me. The water warm and fearless like you were at seventeen with leaves in your hair from your usual tumble. I grew weary of the search and settled on the icy marble floor till my demon called your phone in the milky wake of dawn… In rambles and chatter an “I love you” had slipped from my tongue and the box had opened revealing a dried up rose. I wept and moved on with a crushed petal in my hand. III
We were waiting for the rain; my mother had told me it bore the answers. “What answers?” I asked, but she was devoted only to the chalk blue sky. I did not think much of her grimace and her watery eyes at the time, or the way her jaw was clenched so tightly as though she were never to utter a word again. I did not think much of the object in her hand, the small scab on her left wrist, the overpowering sense of danger gently diffusing into the air. The sky was playing games, square dancing to and fro, jumping from one shade to another, teasing us as though it were just about to splash over our unsuspecting heads a big bucket of water and laughing at us as it appears to succumb to the hot summer’s will once again. My thoughts were diverted and my patience thinned like my mother’s hair had the past few weeks. I couldn’t stand it anymore but with pursed lips, I had weathered another 5 minutes with her sweaty hand firmly holding mine until I let go and headed aimlessly to daydream in my room. It finally poured. Rain. Her blood. Her wailing and her screams. Ancestral time breaking through its hidden barricades. Memories of her willful sadness. Everything poured at once as I was tumbling down the stairs racing eternal damnation, trying to reach her before they do. For every step I skipped and every stride that couldn’t have sped faster if I were indeed rattling winds or a bolt of lightning, she would scream and laugh “I told you I would win, God!” But there was no God standing next to her, there was no bearded man falling down from the sky like the rain that had decreed her tragic fate. There was mother soaked in muddy grass and crimson, and the knife in her hand that had sliced her like soft fruit, the one I’d failed to see as I was thinking desperately of you. With the rain disappearing and the knife wedged nicely into me, I followed her to the ocean of souls she was so eager to swim in, the Geist of our people floating on the cool surface, the collective of our multi-generational sorrow residing, like silt, at very bottom, safe and unreachable. I am there uncovering all the secrets but I do not know how I am telling you this story. IP: Logged |

I loved your stories, PisceanDream. They are very imaginative, gentle and fearless at the same time. They are both whole and associative.IP: Logged |

Personally I loved the second one the best though, each piece is written so empathically. You're a true Piscean in your writing. The emotions are so deep delved that it's hard to not stir yourself up. Precariously you move the sunken love, that since forever wants to stay afloat..Got me a little teary..Loved it IP: Logged |

Really? I honestly took a serious plunge posting these. I honestly didn't think my poetry/writing was special or anything which is why I was always so hesitant to share. Thank you so so so much. I still feel, as I type it out, that a thank you doesn't quite evoke how grateful, welcomed, and touched I feel. I'm glad you enjoyed this piece. I would say the 2nd is the most powerful for sure. You've inspired me to write the 4th piece to the series. IP: Logged |
