We go, where the streets have no name
Walking on a winter night
“Where do we go” said the pawn to the boss
He said: “don’t care, as long as it feels right”
And the dogs are barking
And the clouds are weeping
But every step on our way
Makes us feel alive
As the gangsters keep on rolling
In downtownAnd we talk about, the elusive freedom
Hearing serenades in the night
“Fill up the glass” said the boss to Carl Jung
“I’m kinda thirsty tonight”
And the wind is howling
And the ladies are singing
To the lonely men, and shout
“you can come back, but not all the way”
As the cold keeps on rolling
In downtown
The thieves are waiting for a fool
The lost drunken in the night
“Watch out of easy thrills”, said Carl Jung to the kid
Before you’re blinded by the light
And the thoughts are piling
And the fears are growing
As we walk on the corners
On a midnight ramble to the jungle
Of concrete and narrow ways
Called downtown
Ride on blue kid, ride on pal
Ride on, and don’t feel astray
Gotta feel the night
Gotta feel the streets
There’s no real danger in here
But what lies inside
Come on!
In the alleys without owners
The laughter grew in the night
Through the swinging bars, and the shining stars
How far we went tonight
And the hearts were pumping
And the folks were smiling
Singing the wizard’s blues
Until the first rays of the sun
Shined in this damned hellhole
Downtown
