I was reading about the quincunx ( http://www.ccrsdodona.org/m_dilemma/1987/vir/quincunx.html ) recently since I have a few quincunxes in my chart which I've been trying to consciously work with all year.

Although it's seen as a minor aspect, I think my Neptune in the 7th quincunxing my Moon in the 12th shows up a lot more than a minor aspect might do. I also have Uranus in the 6th quincunxing my Ascendant as well as my NN in the 6th quincunxing my Mercury, Vesta and Osiris in the 1st.

I think it's also interesting that all of my quincunxes are connected with my 6th/12th houses since they are intercepted in Taurus/Scorpio. An interception is sort of similar to a quincunx...not so much of an 'adjustment' but more of a locked room. Still, they seem similar in that balancing them and accessing them is the challenge.

I'm wondering about everyone's experiences with the quincunx(es) in their charts. Do you have any? How do you feel them? How the heck do you work with them? How do you create harmony from constant adjustments?

I guess I'm tired of projecting my 7th house Neptune on to people (ie - men) so I thought a healthy discussion of the quincunx might be in order

"LIFE IS A QUINCUNX" ... haha! What a brilliant, wise sentence this is! Telling all about life's complexities in one very simple phrase;-) You're a genius!

My own chart contains several quincunxes as well - the most diffciult one is a quincunx between my SUN (Cancer, 8th) and MOON (Sagittarius, 1st). If one of these is well aspected, the other receives a stressful aspect from the same transiting planet - like an endless riddle! Next year, for instance, tr. Uranus will square my Moon, bringing much insecurity and stuff. At the same time it will trine my Sun though - and will nurture the core of my being with some healthy "refreshment" (even if my Moon probably won't like the necessary changes, at first stance.)

Well ... the task is to "balance" such quincunx-forces in a way. In my own life, I think there are times when my Moon is more dominant, at others I put more emphasis on my Sun-needs. All in all ... to give it a positive and promising attribute ... I'd say: Quincunxes force you to be versatile;-)

hi LOVE
Happy Xmas to you and NY!

I have 2 quincunxes (l think) that make a yod and l have absolutely no idea how they work or how they make me feel!
I have a problem getting my head around quincunxes to be honest. I have lots of them in my synastries though!

Here are mine:
Pluto 20'virgo in 5th
Uranus 25'virgo in 6th
quincunx
moon 20'aries in 12th
saturn/NN 18' aries in 12th
AC/venus 21' aries in 1st
quincunx
neptune 25'scorpio in 8th

Seems like it devours me!

I can't take a lick of credit for the "life is a quincunx" part, only the second half is mine. I'd like to think that after all the adjusting, there can be harmony found somewhere in there. The link above is Maritha Pottenger's take on the quincunx which I loved because is delved a little deeper into this aspect which so many astrologers treat as unimportant.

I believe Magi treats it as a karmic link and it may be but I do know it's super frustrating for me. I think the irony is that I have such a hard time even understanding how the quincunx plays out. For example, what would Uranus quincunxing my Ascendant signify?

Taking away the whole experience of your transits, how do you feel the differences between your Sun and Moon? What signs and houses are they in?

Lara ~

Thanks! Merry Holidays to you too

Well yods are pretty significant. It's called the Finger of God and I think the point (apex) of it is where all the magic happens So I guess that Aries stellium is the place! But you seem to have a lot of houses involved which makes it more complicated, no?

My last relationship had so many quincunxes and semi-sextiles (which are supposed to be similar to a quincunx) and it does require oodles of adjustment.

I have Sun quincunx Saturn with 12 minutes of arc.

To me, it's like I have problems expressing myself due to insecurity, shyness. I restrict my self expression which could be connected to having limited ego in the way. I had strict, harsh experiences with my stepfather. I also didn't know my biological father. You could say that could be also connected in issues regards to my self expression, ego as well as the male archetype in me. My mother told me that he was a very shy, insecure man too.

in a positive sense, it's good for being humble, disciplined, structured, and being serious, taking life seriously (well...I do tend to be overly serious, and take life too seriously...been told to lighten up...my mom even told me that I act like an old man). I am even finding it hard to just go out and have a good time because I am just not interested in that. In some ways,I am kinda monastic.

the Sun quincunx Saturn is a significant aspect as it is involved in what Magi Society calls a Mystic Triangle(why they refer to it as a Mystic Triangle..I have no idea), my Sun is trine Moon with 2'10 orb, Saturn squares my Moon with 1'58 orb and quincunx my Sun with 12 minutes of arc.

Well..both my experiences involving my mother and father were very Saturnian in both positive and negative ways. I referred to my mom as my mother superior(she wanted to be a nun as child),and my stepfather as the drill seargeant(he was retired Air Force).

I read about Sun trine Moon can indicate being very attractive to the opposite, connected the masculine and feminine energies in harmony, and actually that is true...I am a male that is very in touch with the feminine side, and I am very attractive to the opposite sex(Been told that I am very handsome, viewed as a pretty boy too which got me mistakened for being gay,and I even had a chance to model in a fashion show in my teens which I declined because of shyness), but the thing is that I grew up believing that I am very unattractive, and so I would be self conscious about how I look. I notice that some people get vanity and insecurity mixed up. My insecurity cost me a lot of opportunities that include modeling, acting, and even athletics. A friend of mine even liked my poetry in regards to my rhymes, and he even thought we could be a rap duo. I write the raps, and he raps them. I refused out of insecurity as well as didn't like rap like he did. In 1995, I got very much interested in Eurodance,(many songs that have rapping), I enjoyed writing rap lyrics to Eurodance music. A lot of times when music would play, I would write in a lyrical flow in relation to the music playing.

During my navy days, I went dancing in dance clubs a lot. I became a very good dancer...especially to high energy dance, house, techno music. I got a lot of compliments from people including women that I danced with. I got so comfortable as a dancer that I could dance on stage like being a performer. I have even been the first one on the dance floor.

Off the dance floor,I am very shy. I always hated public speaking which lead to me to shake and stutter. I flunked my 11th grade College Prep History Class because I skipped part of a final which was a presentation that I had to do in front of a class. In 12th grade, I took an easier History class. By that time, I gave up on going to college any way. It's easier for me to pick up women on the dance floor. I won't hesitate to ask a woman to dance. If she tells me "No", I will be like "Thanks any way",and I will move on. Other times, I whined in a playful way "ah c'mon..", and she changed her mind. I have also been asked to dance by other women too. Outside a dance club, picking up on women is a challenge for me because of my shyness. Also, I am aware of how many women view men in a negative way "All men are after one thing...sex" even though I don't fit male stereotypes being a male with strong feminine traits that are evident to many people as well as reflected by lower than average levels of testosterone and higher levels of estrogen. Of course, a lot of women do want macho types of men,and so I don't fit what they want in a man. A lot of times,I feel that I don't fit what most women want in a man.

My Sun in 5'20 Scorpio quincunx Saturn in 5'08 Gemini is in a waxing quincunx which corresponds with Virgo. Virgo is a sign that is associated with being self critical, perfectionist, self conscious, shy but also humble, modest too, into service
I am a believer that the Constellations have an influence in Astrology. I believe that the constellation modifies our zodiac sign placements. My Sun is in the Constellation of Virgo, and so my Scorpio Sun is modified by Virgo traits. I do have Virgo Ascendant too. So my Sun in the constellation of Virgo in waxing quincunx with Saturn can be a like a double whammy of Virgo.

The Sabian Symbol for my waxing Sun quincunx Saturn with 12 minutes of arc(in the 150-151 Range) is 1 Virgo
In A Portrait,The Significant Features Of A Man's Head Are Artistically Emphasized
"the capacity to picture oneself clearly the salient features and the overall meaning of any life situation:

The literal meaning applies to me in regards to the issues about how I look

The other meaning seems like the importance of clarity and paying attention to detail in observing things in life. That's always seem to be a major lesson for me. I used to have a lot of problems being very disorganized, not paying attention to detail that I got criticized a lot by my stepfather and when I was in the navy, especially in bootcamp..ugh..what a nightmare. hahahaha
I think studying Astrology has helped me to be more organized and pay attention detailed without the stress the Navy provided for me.

Sabian Symbols can be used with aspects
every degree of the circle corresponding to every degree of the zodiac which has a corresponding Sabian Symbol.

Robert Blaschke came up with the concept which is called Sabian Aspect Orb.
I have his book, ASTROLOGY A LANGUAGE OF LIFE VOLUME 2 - SABIAN ASPECT ORBS

I believe that they can help you understand the aspects in much depth.

Love, the link to the article you posted is awesome, and kinda opened my eyes!

quote:
PROJECTION
Perhaps more than any aspect, I see projection—dealing with our Shadow side by having significant others reflect it back to us (very Scorpionic)—with the quincunx. People set themselves up to be fired, or left by partners, or forced to move, etc. They unconsciously arrange to make a change, but in such a way, all too often, that they experience it as outside of their personal control. However, if we look at the underlying psychological motivations, it becomes very clear that the individual NEEDS and desires that change (although s/he may not be consciously aware of that drive). When the 7th or 8th houses are involved with a quincunx, projection is even more likely.

What was eye popping about this was that I have two quincunxes, both dealing with the 8th house. My Sun (8th) quincunxes Neptune (1st), and my Mercury (8th) quincunxes my Moon (3rd). I'm trying to comprehend what this will manifest as, I do believe in the projection thing, I want to hopefully be ware of my unconscious desires so this isn't as much of a problem, But I haven't really been in a relationship, and I'm weary of deceit, which is very 8th house, and could possibly be a quincunx manifestation, I also have Mars square Neptune, which is another aspect that involves deceit. I guess I'll just have to play it by ear -that's been my motto lately. I'm really tired of it, I just want to feel like I'm living my life, instead of waiting for the action...

Sun - Leo
Moon - Pisces
Ascendant - Sagittarius

miss neptune ~ I think I got that link from Glaucus...? It is a good one. I'm still working on the whole projection thing in my relationships. I actually think that I have tended to choose men who have mirrored that back to me so often that all of the projection seemed almost normal at the time.

I find that being in relationships definitely bring all of my issues to the forefront immediately. The real benefit to being conscious and more self-aware (even when it feels a bit icky to do so) is the fact that you have the opportunity to move through stuff more quickly.

Glaucus ~

<<My Sun in 5'20 Scorpio quincunx Saturn in 5'08 Gemini is in a waxing quincunx which corresponds with Virgo>>

Why is a waxing quincunx associated with Virgo?

I loved your story about dancing. I can actually relate to that since I am a dancer myself and I feel completely different when I am performing than I do any other time. It's sort of like being myself but being someone different at the same time. Sometimes I think it's just being closer to who I really am because you can't dance with your defences up and therefore in those moments, you're closer to your own truth - more real somehow.

How would you interpret the following aspects?

Uranus (Rx) quincunx Ascendant
Saturn (Rx) quincunx North Node
Chiron (Rx) quincunx Juno

(not sure if retrograde changes matters or not here)

I really have no idea how to interpret the first one...to me it feels like a pretty unstable aspect since the quincunx itself is so unstable and then you add Uranus into it. This one is in my chart and Uranus is in an intercepted sign conjunct my Vertex. So I feel this quincunx is important but I can't figure out how.

But I was thinking with Saturn/NN there would be a discrepancy between one's direction in life and a feeling of stability and safety (especially in this case since Saturn is conjunct the IC) Like, maybe to move forward towards one's destiny, you would have to do something about the Saturn...but what? Make peace with it? Release control? Integrate it?

And Chiron quincunx Juno I am guessing would be the struggle between bonding/commitment and healing. So maybe when this person feels they are being healed, they also feel as though they are not honouring their desires for commitment?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the quincunx in a real-world kind of way. I get it as a concept, but I find that the opposition and quinccunx seem so similar energetically, it's hard to separate them in terms of applying them to actual feelings and situations.
