Steps for identifying someone's romantic 'type' using astrology...

For identifying someone’s type when looking at the natal chart first I check the obvious things… 5th house cusp and ruler, plus planets in the 5th for… who is romantically exciting to you (also check the sign next along after the cusp sign if a large part of it falls into the 5th house). Then, 7th house cusp and ruler, plus planets in the 7th house for…who gives you a feeling of sweet liking. And last but not least, 8th house cusp and ruler, plus planets in the 8th for… who attracts you in an intriguing ‘lets merge’ type of way…

Then if these placements show no clues I look to the HIDDEN INDICATORS OF ATTACTION…

The first one is the house cusp symbolically related to the sign of the DSC. For example, if you have a Pisces DSC look at the sign on the 12th house cusp to sigh who else you could be attracted to (also look at planets in the 12th and the sign of the cusp ruler). If you have an Aquarius DSC look at the 11th house symbolism for extra clues. For a Capricorn DSC look to the 10th house and so on through the zodiac

I call the house symbolically related to the DSC sign the ‘Extended DSC’ because it can function as an extension of the 7th house in terms of what you attract.

Celebrity example…

Katie Holmes has Leo rising with Aqua in the DSC, and Tom Cruise’s Sun falls in Cancer in her 11th house…Tom Cruise has Scorpio rising with a Taurus DSC, and Katie’s Sun falls in Sagittarius in his 2nd house.

The second more hidden indicator of attraction is the VERTEX AXIS…

If a person has an important planet in their chart conjunct of oppose your natal Vertex in synastry this can indicate that this person will have a significant impact on you, and their influence will linger in some way on your psyche… for good or ill.
The Vertex and Anti-Vertex are said to represent your unconscious DSC, in the sense that you may consciously look for the qualities of your DSC in others, but you also need the energies symbolized by the Vertex axis in a relationship (either side can work in a DSC like way). For example, someone with a Gemini DSC with Jupiter in the 7th (me) may look for a Gem-Sag type energy in others, to put a little fun in their life, but if they have the Vertex in Taurus, with the Anti-Vertex in Scorpio, then they also need financial security and deep trust and intimacy in their relationships (and in my case this is certainly true). Even if there is no conjunction or opposition to either side of this axis by degree, it is not uncommon to find these two signs popping up over and over again in a partner’s chart. This axis represents traits we might not even be aware we are attracted to until someone with these qualities shows up in our lives and awakens us to these tendencies.

Celebrity example…

Katie Holmes’ Vertex is 12 degrees Capricorn; Tom Cruise’s Sun is 11 degrees Cancer. Katie’s Mercury is 6 degrees of Sag, and Tom’s Vertex is 8 degrees Gemini.

Brad Pitt’s Vertex is 28 degrees Cancer conjunct Angelina Jolie’s Venus/Asc conjunction at 28 degrees Cancer. Angelina Jolie’s Vertex is 11 degrees Sagittarius conjunct Brad Pitt’s ASC at 12 degrees Sagittarius.

It’s work checking out…

The best scenario, or at least it seems so to me, is to get someone who embodies both your conscious (5th, 7th, extended 7th, & 8th house symbolism) and your unconscious needs (Vertex axis signs, sign rulers, and planets aspecting axis). People are never one dimensional, they have layers... the natal chart can show the combination of 'layers' that are relevant to you...

How does this fit for you?

Perfect. It makes perfect sense to me!

So, regarding the extended Descendant, it basically means, that if I have Gemini on the DSC, I would look to the 3rd house (in my case it is Aquarius with Pisces intercepted).
And also, if someone has planets in my 3rd house in the synastric overlay, it would probably have more romantic meaning for me than in a chart, where Gemini / Mercury / 3rd house is NOT tied to relationship-issues?

Does that work for 5th house matters, too? So, I have Taurus in 5th house, so I guess 2nd house would be romantically important, too?
My 2nd house is in Capricorn and I definitely feel a strong attraction to Capricorns (But my Venus, is in Cappy, too); it is also the sign of my Antivertex. So I guess, I definitely resonate with that sign.

This "Extended DSC" was similarly my theory, but for the Moon and attraction *received*, when I was trying to determine how there is no other reason why I should be attracting Gemini Moon women...

My Descendant is Aquarius, I have Gemini on the 11th, and by far my three biggest romantic relationships were all women with Gemini Moons, all falling into my 11th house.

Since some claim the 11th house to be "love received", my perspective may be slightly inflated, but I considered this whole idea to be a worthy hypothesis.

I posed this possibility of "female partner's moon falling in the house ruled by the sign on the desc"... but no one responded.

Edit: Cappadora, where did you hear about this? Since I've made a similar observation (but partner's Moon and attraction received from) I imagine there must be information about it somewhere.

ok well i'm having brain malfunction trying to figure this out but l will give it a shot.

His 7th is gemini.
His 3rd has saturn and mars in it.
my MOON is on his 3rd conjunct IC exact

My 7th is Libra.
My 7th has neptune in it (using placidus).
His neptune is in my 7th.
However, his MOON is in my 12th, ntaural ruler of pisces/neptune. (maybe there's something to that?)

His 5th is Taurus.
My AC ruler MARS is in his 5th.
None of my planets are in his 2nd.

My 5th is Cancer.
His vertex is in my 5th squaring my SUN.
Nothing in my 4th.

His 8th is Cancer.
My pluto/uranus in his 8th.
My AC/venus/sun in his 4th.

My 8th is scorpio but most of house is sagittarius.
his AC is in my 8th.
His venus is in my 9th/sagittarius.

His VERTEX is in Leo/8th
square my sun.

My VERTEX is in Libra/7th
trine his sun.

now i'm really confused!

Hmmm....let's see...

My 5th House cusp is Mercury-ruled Gemini. It's true, I have a very strong attraction to Geminis.

My third house contains Saturn, Juno, Sedna, Kaali, Parvati, Tara, Psyche, Pan, Panacea, and the following midpoints: Sun/N Node, ASC/Sun, ASC/Mercury, ASC/Mars, ASC/Venus, ASC/Moon, ASC/S Node, Draconic ASC/Sun, Neptune/Jupiter, Neptune/Uranus, MC/Jupiter, MC/Uranus, Chiron/Sun and Valentine/Pluto.

Most of my husband's natal planets are in the 3rd House.

In the 5th House I have my Sun, Destinn, Aura, Hygeia and the following midpoints: MC/ASC, Moon/Saturn, Saturn/Venus, Neptune/ASC, N Node/Neptune, N Node/MC and Draconic Siva/Kaali midpoint.

My DSC/7th House Cusp is Sun-ruled Leo (my Sun is in the 5th House - I already described my 5th House placements above). I absolutely adore Leo men but generally more as friends. I usually feel an instant kinship and the most positive, easiest connection with Leo men, above all other signs.

My 7th House is loaded: Moon (my Sun sign ruler as I'm a Cancer Sun), S Node, Venus, Vertex, Vesta, DNA, Atlantis, Musa, all Lilith placements (asteroid Lilith, Black Moon Lilith, True Black Moon Lilith, Mean Black Moon Lilith, Lunar Apogee, etc.), Pandora, Bacchus, Victoria, Aescualpia, and the following midpoints: Sun/Jupiter, Sun/Uranus, Sun/Neptune, Sun/Pluto, Sun/MC, Moon/Uranus, Moon/Pluto, Mercury/Neptune, Mercury/MC, Venus/Moon, Venus/Pluto, Neptune/Saturn, Pluto/Vertex, MC/Saturn, N Node/ASC, Chiron/ASC, Chiron/N Node, Juno/Valentine, Amor/Valentine and Psyche/Eros.

My 8th House cusp is Mercury-ruled Virgo (though I tend to think Virgo is actually ruled by a combination of Mercury, Chiron and Vesta). I feel very close to Virgos. My best friend is a Virgo.

My 8th House is also loaded: Jupiter, Uranus (my chart ruler as I'm Aquarius Rising), Pluto, Quaoar, Hekate, Penelope, Aphrodite, Adonis, Lovejoy, Union, Utopia, Paradise, and the following midpoints: Sun/Valentine, Moon/Jupiter, Moon/Neptune, Moon/MC, Mercury/Valentine, Venus/Neptune, Venus/MC, Venus/Valentine, Mars/Neptune, Mars/MC, Mars/Valentine, Jupiter/Pluto, Saturn/ASC, Pluto/Neptune, Pluto/MC, Karma/N Node, DSC/Valentine, Isis/Osiris and Psyche/Cupido.

So for me, two of the inquired about cusps are ruled by Mercury (5th and 8th). I can see how that manifests - I value intelligence and wit above almost everything in a man (though, as a Cancer Sun with a Virgo Moon, I also value loyalty and trustworthiness equally).

yeh i think this works, the last person i liked, was a cancer sun, my jupiter is in cancer, my 5th house is in sagittarius.
i am also attracted to sagittarians very much!

her jupiter, was in gemini, which is in my 11th, my 7th house is in aquarius!

my jupiter is also in my 11th house, does that connect what im after between aquarius 7th, and sagittarius 5th?

is this making sense to the theory?

edit* i also realised, that my venus is in the 4th house, cancer house, is this a clue for me to like cancers?

I'm having a brain fart or something, can't really figure this out! So, I have Aries on the 5th cusp with Taurus filling most of the 5th house. I've never been inclined towards Taurus Suns, but I'm drawn to men that have Earth moons. I can't seem to figure this out, except that Capricorn is the cusp of my 2nd house, and I just met someone who I've taken a fancy for, and he has Capricorn moon and its in my 2nd house.

I've realized I like people with the same ascendent as me- for two reasons: first of all I have Gemini Venus, which is always placed in the the persons 7th house. This new fancy of mine has Libra Sun & Venus, so its located on my MC in the 10th, not to shabby I must say!

------------------
Sun - Leo
Moon - Pisces
Ascendant - Sagittarius

I think I worked this out with DD sometime last year (thanks DD!)

So, the ruler of my 7th and 8th houses is Jupiter which is in my 12th house. My 12th house is ruled by Mars which is in my 4th house squaring Jupiter. I have Neptune in my 7th house trining Mars in the 4th and quincunxing Moon in the 12th (which is loosely conjunct Jupiter).

Every guy I've been in love with has had a Pisces Ascendant or Neptune conjunct their Ascendant. Also, most of them have had either their ruler of the 12th house in their 4th (like me) or have had Aries on their IC (again, similar to me with my Mars in the 4th).

The ruler of my 1st and 5th is Mercury which is conjunct my Gem Ascendant and opposed to Neptune in the 7th. Mercury in a chart for me is a way more romantic planet than it might be for someone else. In fact, when men have a good vocabulary or they can spell really well or they are clever with words, I actually get turned on!

My NN is in Scorpio so most of the men I have been with have had Scorpio Moons (until I was 25) or Scorpio Suns (25 - now). I also tend to attract Virgo Moons, since my 5th is ruled by Virgo. Alot of people get frustrated with Virgo Moons, and sometimes I do, but mostly they activate my 5th which feels comforting to me. Plus they're ruled by Mercury.

My Vertex is conjunct Uranus so most of my relationships have typcially started with a bang and ended in the same way. Chiron is also opposed to my Vertex/Uranus and my intimate relationships have been probably the most helpful healing devices in my life.

I recently met an Aries who is officially the first Aries man I've ever been attracted to. I was sooo surprised to find out that he was an Aries. It turns out that he has a Virgo Moon, Neptune conjunct his Ascendant, his IC in Aries, ruler of his 12th house in his 4th, Mercury and Jupiter conjunct my Chiron and Anti-Vertex.

No wonder I can't get him out of my mind.

Ok..lets see...

FOR ME:

5th house cusp and ruler. Leo/Sun

7th house cusp and ruler. Libra/Venus Uranus is in there.

So I have a liking for a "sunny type person (Aries, Leo,Sag) and Libra-Auarius typr person. I DEFINATELY agree with Aries, Leo, Sag part. (5th house) (My guy is an Aries...his Sun conjuncts my acendant)

8th house cusp and ruler. Scorpio/Pluto Neptune is in there. I definately am attracted to Pisces/Scorpio type for a Lets Merge kind of way. (My guy has Pisces Rising, which conjuncts my moon)

Extended Dcndnt. My 7th house is my 7th house (Libra) Which is still colored by Uranus.

My Guys 5th house ruler Cancer/ Moon (Im a Cancerian, with Moon conjunct his asdnt)
My Guys Decendant is Virgo/Mercury. (My Mercury is in his 6th house.)

My Vertex is 7 degrees Libra in 6th house. Anti-Vertex 7 degrees Aries in my 12th house. My Guys Sun conjuncts my Anti-Vertex @ 5 degrees ..his sun is 12 deg Aries...and his Venus is 10 deg Aries. Is that close enuff for a conjunction?

His Vertex is 18 deg Virgo...Anti-Vertex 18 deg Pisces. His Vertex on cusp of my 6th house. ( which is extended 7th house for him)

How is that? Did I follow it all right?

I just wanted to say..hey..I seem to be attracting ALOT of Tauruses with GEMINI moons...maybe there's just alot of Gemini Moons running around...you know.."pitchin' woo" LOll!!!

Was just kidding arouind Scorpionic..

Ok..My moon does not fall on his extended descendant...it falls on his Asndant..But..

The ruler of his Descendant ( Virgo/Mercury) Makes 6th house extended desendant....

My Mercury (which is HIS 7th house ruler) falls in his 6 th house. Does that mean anything perhaps. Like I fill that need for Virgo/Mercury. My chart providesd the necessary influence or energy he is looking for in his 6 th house?

Well, I had a guy where my moon fell onto his extended descendant and he didn't do a darn thing until it was too late...LOL. And even then he just kinda seemed undecided. I mean, I don't have all year, you know?
It's true that the feelings were pretty deep and shared also though.

K, think I got it now. With my 7th house ruler in Scorpio, I'm looking at the 8th (in Sagittarius). No wonder that Sagittarius with the Scorpio moon years ago was so hard to get over! And his sun fell right into my 8th. Along with his Mercury too...sheesh.

My 5th is in Leo, but a lot of it has Virgo. I have Mercury in there too. I DO need someone I can talk talk talk to, someone sunny and optimistic and not too gloomy and always somber
The 8th house intensity I need though puts things at odds.
And with my Vertex in Libra/Anti-Vertex in Aries, I do need someone who can be romantic but who can take some real chances and risks for %@$*'s sake!

Very accurate. I'll keep an eye on that, thanks for the tips
Glad I could finally get my brain wrapped around it....

I feel like I just described myself to an extent, actually. Weird O__O

Okay so starting with my 5th house. I have Taurus on the cusp with Venus in the 5th house and YES, I am very attracted to Taurean men or men with Taurus ANYTHING. I also have a thing for cheesy classic 'movie star' handsome men too, but there's other factors too.

I also have Jupiter in the 5th which (and I never though of this before) explains why I find sagittarian influenced people lots of fun and I don't mind that being karmically linked to them over and over again.

22 Degrees of gemini sits in my chart and the ruler of my 5th house is in gemini too. I think I've said enough about how much I love geminis, intelligence, nerdiness, goofiness, men who talk alot and most things mercury/gemini-related.

Cancer is my DC and I can't say I've been attracted to other cancers but I did start having a thing for them this year. My 7th house ruler falls in virgo in the 8th so once again the theme of mercurial men shows up. I also tend to fall HARD for anything scorpionic I realize. I'm very comfortable with scorpio mooners too.

My sun is also in the 7th and yes, I do attract and very much like men who are like the yang to my yin. They're usually outgoing to balance my shyness.

Aries sits on my 4th house cusp (house traditionally associated with cancer) and well, I can't say that some arien qualities don't warm my heart, but I don't have good experiences with arien men either. I tend to have a ridiculous attraction to reckless men though...not good. O__o Mars the ruler of the 4th also sits in aries too. A good amount of Taurus sits in my 4th too (refer to the above)

I have Leo on the 8th house cusp and I'm pretty much done with Leo ANYTHING. Thats kind of a paradox since I have sun in the 7th but *le sigh*, too much energy for me. Yes I like outgoing people, just not people who want the world to revolve around them 24-7 in addition.

My moon is in the 8th in virgo and I rarely meet virgo men but when I have, I've enjoyed their company very much. But again, this ties into the theme of my love for those extroverted/talkative types. *sigh*

Lastly, I have Cancer on the DSC and Leo on the 8th with Sun in the 7th and Moon on the 8th. I'm still not entirely sure what this means but I believe it ties them together. Like one house can't function without the other. Maybe it means I like to 'merge' with whoever I have a 'sweet liking' for. Which is true I guess...

Thanks for the responses Guys,

DARKDREAMER…

Your response was music to my ears! Someone gets it. The 5th house extension could work to I suppose… I don’t see why not.

MY VIRGO MASK…

Look at the charts of all your loves and crushes, as well as those of couple’s you know or even celebrities you like… you might start to see certain patterns… moon in the house related to the 7th house sign, mars opposite the vertex, sun in the same sign as the ruler of the 5th, 7th or 8ths houses, Venus in the 8th, Jupiter in the 5th …these are just example’s of the kind of things to look for… eventually it all fits.

Oh, wait. You just did. Loved your last post about the Saggi-Scorp.

SCORPIONIC WEB…

Yeah, I sort of ‘made up’ the Extended DSC after putting two and two together with regard to my own crushes and attractions. Then I noticed the same pattern with other people in their relationships and with celebrity couples as well. It was shocking to me how often the ‘Extended DSC’ showed up in synastry, so I figure it can’t be a coincidence…

GREEN FAIRY

About vertex aspects, actually it’s not just the opposition or conjunction that have impact. All aspects to the vertex have a potency in the sense that this person has a ‘POW!’ type effect on you, (they stand out to you and catch your attention) even if the person doesn’t have the signs on your vertex axis prominently in their chart. The fact that their planets aspect it activates it for you.

I put only conjuncts and oppositions because I didn’t want to confuse people with too much info. Only the signs on either side of this axis refer to your hidden relationship tastes, but aspects to it can serve to make a person highly noticeable to you.

LIBRALOVE

Yeah, your response fits.

FOR ANYONE CONFUSED ABOUT THE ‘EXTENDED DSC’…

Here’s a list of the house cusps to look to as an extension of your DSC for each rising sign. These house cusps are symbolically related to the sign on your DSC, showing what other traits you are attracted to in others, apart from just what the DSC alone shows.

Aries rising, Libra DSC… The 7th house has double importance.

Taurus rising, Scorpio DSC… look to the 8th house.

Gemini rising, Sagittarius DSC… look to the 9th house

Cancer rising, Capricorn DSC… look to the 10 house

Leo rising, Aquarius DSC… look to the 11th house

Virgo rising, Pisces DSC…look to the 12th house

Libra rising, Aries DSC… look to the 1st house

Scorpio rising, Taurus DSC… look to the 2nd house

Sagittarius rising, Gemini DSC… look to the 3rd house

Capricorn rising, Cancer DSC… look to the 4th house

Aquarius rising, Leo DSC… look to the 5th house

Pisces rising, Virgo DSC… look to the 6th house

Can you see the pattern now?

MISS NEPTUNE

The Libra shows as an attraction in your chart because you’ve got Venus in the 7th house.

CRABBY FISH

The Vertex / Venus conjunction sounds excellent. You’ve pretty much got it. Where’s your mars for Aries attraction?

DULCE LUNA

Love the step by step analysis… the recklessness fetish is sooo connected with the Aries… I have this sign on the 5th and a guy that does stupid reckless things turns me on even if I think he’s…well…stupid…

sounds like you want a Gemini with a strongly placed sun, and a bit of Taurus and Scorp in the natal...

And thanks LARA, TIGERLILY, and LEAPINGLEMER14 for your responses.

Cappadora:

With my old observation of females' Moons in my house ruled by the sign on my Desc, and your observation of A's Sun in B's house ruled by sign on B's Desc, I wonder if maybe we're onto something special here...

...I think it's so great that you've found such a remarkably similar trend. There MUST be more information on these ideas out there.

Cappadora (and Scorpionic) ...wow! Thanks so much for this info It is definitely something worthy of further observations. I did my 'new' synastry with my ex-husband and Holy Haagen Daz, Batman! It's making a whole lotta sense

Oh, yeah and thanks LOVE and GOODGIRL ('Your type in the natal for dummies'. That's actually a really good idea...I'd buy it.Hahaha!!. No, really I would)

SCORPIONIC WEB

Yeah, only I don't just look at the sun for women or the moon for men, I look at all important planets in the chart falling into the Extended DSC as being significant in this way. If a man's Venus and Jupiter fell into this house it would be important for me too, and if a women's sun and Asc fell into this house for a man he would likely look twice at her as well. So there are some differences in our theories I think... on that note, someone's moon falling in your 11th house when the DSC sign is Aqua fits my theory perfectly. Thanks for your input about the Gem moon girls.

Do you only use the sun and moon as in regards to literal men and women?

Still, I think it's way cool that you figured out how all your attractions had their moon in your 11th, and how this was eerily reminiscent of your Aqua DSC.

In my Case I have a Gemini DSC, and so I look at the 3rd house for extra info on my attractions. The sign on the 3rd is Aqua ruled by Uranus in Scopio. I have noticed an Aqua/Scorp theme showing up again and again in the natal charts of the guy's I like, although the actual sign sign was never Scorp or Aqua (they were Aries, Sag and Gem). It would be other placements in their charts that fit the profile. Like Venus or moon in Scorpio or Aqua, a strong Uranus in the chart, or the ASC sign in Aqua, Scorp, or Taurus (which puts Scorp on the DSC). Also pluto aspects stong in chart... that sort of thing.

I must ask because I theorize a woman's Moon may more often be their significator in these cases... so, in what sign is your natal Moon? I'm not sure how large of an astrological survey pool you have to draw from, but I would like to see if you've ever found yourself in a significant relationship with someone whose Desc sign rules their house in which your Moon falls.
