I've been studying astrology for a while and have immersed myself for hours studying everything I can, but sometimes I'm still a skeptic. Is there anything you just can't comprehend? Retrograde planets still baffle me, I've read tons about them, but still can't seem to figure them out....

Retrograde planets make perfect sense to me. What do you have trouble figuring out?

I'm not just talking about retrograde planets in general, I'm talking about the effects, not the generalizations that they get molded into. This is hilarious, whenever I post anything, I get no responses....

Sorry missneptune, I never saw your post
I just found a cool thing about retro planets on an article by Noel Tyl - it's actually about 12th house planets but ties in to the retro stuff.
Rx - Retrograde = Restrained eXpression :
http://www.noeltyl.com/techniques/070228.html

Here's another on rx planets: http://www.noeltyl.com/techniques/040731.html

It fits to me, in a way.
I'm learning also, trying to figure out as much as I can

Hilarious? No responses? I asked you a question, and I guess you don't value my opinion.

The text speak style might alienate readers.

Particularly anyone over 35, non-Anglophones, Virgos, etc.

Anything I can't figure out?

Aside from text speak? Asteroids. Floating gravel or extra bodies essential to the chart?

I can't help feeling sceptical about their use when the ones with attractive sounding names get all the attention, without any context as to their size, orb or anything about them at all.

Oh shite I find myself agreeing with Fister. S/he did give an opinion, and furthermore it was clearly written in English.

We're still a long way off an evening with candles and champagne but it's a start.

Jeeze, I wasn't under valuing your opinion FirstofLegend. In the past 2 months or so I haven't really posted much, but I've been on this site for years, never seen so many synastry questions before!

Asteroids baffle me as well, I did some investigating a while ago, and I've always had an affinity with the greek gods - Minerva and Apollo, and I was surprised to see they conjunct my sun, but it took a while to discover this. MyVirgoMask, I'll check out those links, I just got a rad book by Noel Tyl!

Wow, I didn't know that 12th house planets are considered behind the scenes. In my progressed chart both Uranus and Saturn are located in the 12th and they are both conjunct my Asc. as well and RX.

This quote really reflects my problems with expressing myself to others:

quote:
Uranus is the planet that represents individuality, eccentricity, inventiveness, or rebelliousness. With Uranus in the 12th, we may feel a sense of restrained individualistic expression or a reluctance to reveal non-mainstream beliefs, traits, or characteristics. There may be a radical departure from traditional values or beliefs accompanied by (at least an initial) caution about making these thoughts or ideas public.

Yeah, Uranus in the 12th can be a real loose cannon too, just from the two people I know with it. Everything's looking ok and fine and good and then BOOM!- from out of nowhere there's this huge change in ideas/attitudes, etc.

I don't get the 12th house at all.

Retrograde planets are a little more understandable. My chart ruler is retrograde, so it's easy for me to identify with the engergies I GUESS.

12th house is where you put things you want to forget about.

I second the notion about the cryptic 12th house and retrograde conundrums- I sympathize wholeheartedly with those baffled and perturbed by these matters.

Having my chart ruler Pluto conjoining with Saturn and both planets doing the retrograde in my 12th, I feel rather justifiably perplexed.

After living with these energies for 25 years, I have no constructive answers to offer as to their effect- maybe thats the nature of the beast?

Here, here, Redstar, retrogrades are truly perplexing, maybe were not supposed to understand them...

I hear ya missneptune - great way to look at it, rather than be retarded by retrogrades!

(I read somewhere about retrogrades being like a retarded planet..I'm sure they meant in the literal sense, it not being a commentary on the planet's intellectual capacities).

Come join the pity party Leaping - we may have retarded rulers..but apparently its worth it!?

And in terms of what it means to have a retrograde ruler- whatever planet it is, it will express itself more inwardly, and less publicly.

Whatever it signifies and wherever in your chart it is placed, these matters will be more important to you in an internal, soul-searching, non public kind of way.

It may also signify that the energies and issues associated with it come from within you, or are internally generated, rather than being sourced from the outside world.

...or at least thats what mine seem to be doing

Heh sorry unfortunatly it's the best description of personal experience I can give..I still struggle with
trying to capture the meaning of a retro Ruler.

*wishes she had something simpler to play with..*

Oh I forgot to ask you Leapinglemur-what planet is it that is the retrograde ruler in your chart, if you are willing to share?

I'll give it a shot:

A retro Neptune would possibly manifest through
emphasized and heightened dependence on intuition and subtle energetic information that you may unconsiously pick up from your environment.Your dreams, ideals etc are very important and internally they are at the core of who you are. Strong inner life and imagination.

Being your ascendant ruler, it may make you even more diffused as a personality, so much so that your inner world and outer world may be miles apart, and the you that others see/experience is vastly different to the you you feel you are. It may make you more retiring as well.

Being placed in Capricorn may actually be a good thing for your neptune, as it will allow it to retain some sort of structure as a point of reference - so maybe all that dreaming/imagining/internal reality would create many neptunian creations (mystical/musical/artistic etc), and having that capricorn structure at hand, you would actually be able to manifest them in this reality, by first dreaming them up and then realizing them.

Being in the 10th, negatively it may mean a complete loss and hazy neptunian dreaminess when it comes to making goals, public opinion and ambition- you may completely turn away from it all, choosing to instead pursue your inner fantasy worlds, and just dream a lot about being famous :P.

Positively, combined with the capricorn influence, you may be able to utilize neptune's awesome potential for bringing into life anything you can imagine- making fantasies concrete and relying on otherworldly experiences/dreams can be a goal in life that you may project out into the world, or be known for.
(or be known as a daydreamer :P)

So to utilize the planet's energies, allow yourself to dream/fantasize constructively.

Think costume and set designers/artists/musicians/etc...but doing what they do successfully and getting recognition for it.

For what it's worth..
