I don't have neptune in 5th, but I have venus and jupiter there forming a square to neptune in the 8th. And trust me it's just as bad, probably worse. Yes I am exactly how you described. I'm addicted to music, alcohol, love, and basically fun in general, I'm a very hedonistic and pleasure seeking person. Life's not worth living if you can't have fun doing it.

It doesn't matter where Neptune is located, it will always rule addiction, alcohol, oil, drugs, music and art.

One thing you may want to consider is strange or veiled issues around children (This is only one thing out of millions of meanings). For example: Look at Michael Jackson's chart. He has Neptune in 5th House. Neptune rules things that are veiled and he literally veils his children when they are out in public.

Angelina Jolie has Neptune in her 5th House of children. Neptune rules compassion so the first thing that I'm getting about her placement there is that she has a tremendous amount of compassion for children and has adopted a few. In addition to her being a movie star (Neptune rules film) it could suggest that "things are not as they appear to be" with her children, but not necessarily. All I know is that there is a strong focus on children when we think of her now.

i agree geo* lol {edit, sorry assumed you were glaucus with ur name begining with that G!], but alot of descriptions seem to fancy it being prominent on those when its in the 5th house from what iv read.

so yeh, i guess it rules addiction, but doesnt the house its in define that more over?

5th house would define it through fun/entertainment, children, sex, and what ever else comes under the 5th.

alot of descriptions have described the 5th being relative to the likings of theatre/film/music, because its forms of entertainment, alot of people on another forum talking about neptune in the 5th all mentioned people they knew with this placement having a real passion for films etc.

some of them alcoholics.

im trying to figure out if this is really common for people with neptune in the 5th, if its common in all houses, then i guess i will get an answer.

I am in agreement with Geocosmic.

My mother has Neptune in 5th, and her firstborn son was adopted out, and her second born son (me) had special education needs and misdiagnosed mentally retarded in early childhood and schizoaffective bipolar disorder in adulthood because of my neurodivergence was misunderstood.

Her mother had Neptune in 5th house, and she tried to give up my mom for adoption, but my grandfather wouldn't allow it and kept my mom. Mom grew up never knowing her mother.

Neptune in 5th can indicate Neptunian type of children like ultrasensitive, imaginative, hard to pin down, spiritual, intuitive

that fits my mom and me

My mom has a highly aspected Neptune:
trine Sun in 12th - (her father had Moon in Pisces and my father had Moon in Pisces disposited by stationary Neptune....so fits with both the father and the animus)
square Mercury-Venus-Uranus
sextile Pluto
She has Sun,Neptune,Pluto minor grand trine with 3 corresponding midpoint pictures of Sun-Neptune-Pluto combinations.

I have highly aspected Neptune:
square Moon in Pisces
parallel Mercury-Venus
square Mars
oppose/contraparallel Saturn
sextile Pluto
I have Moon,Jupiter-Neptune,Saturn t-square with corresponding midpoint picture of Moon oppose Saturn/Neptune

my 5th house ruler,Saturn in Gemini in 9th oppose/contraparallel Neptune in 3rd, and so Neptunian things can involve my future children. They could be Neptunian types. with my 5th house ruler aspecting Neptune in the house of mental processes. They will very likely be neurodivergents (be very rightbrained, nonlinear in their thinking) After all, neurodivergence runs in families. I come from family of neurodivergents on both my mother and father's sides.

I have strong alcoholic family history on my mom's side. She was an alcoholic, and so was her father and both of his parents. 2 of her halfsiblings were alcoholics. Drugs were used in our family too...especially marijuana. My mother was a drug addict too.

My father was a drug addict, and my mom told me that alcoholism runs on his family too.

so yeah...it's a good thing that I stay away from drugs and alcohol. Spirituality is a good way to use my strong Neptunian energies.
I do have compassion for children, especially special education needs/neurodivergent children. After all, I was a special education needs child too. Of course,I am bothered by the misdiagnosed and psychiatric medication of neurodivergent children. I believe that my life purpose is to help neurodivergent children, especially the metaphysically oriented neurodivergent children that are labeled Indigo,Crystal which I can relate to being with my being a metaphysically oriented neurodivergent myself.

I don't think Neptune in 5th has to do with alcohol, drugs per se.

You have to take the aspects to Neptune into account too. Also the easy Neptune aspects can be alcoholic indicators and not just the hard Neptune aspects.

Geocosmic made points that alcoholism is a Neptunian thing any way.

but yeah.....my mother has Neptune in 5th, and she was an alcoholic/drug addict.

her mother has Neptune in 5th, but I don't anything about her because my mom never knew her mother.

They are the only ones in my family that I know that have Neptune in 5th house.

I strongly doubt that Neptune in 5th alone is an indicator for alcoholism.

Neptune is the planet is associated with alcohol, drugs, addictions any way. If Neptune is prominent in the chart, there could be the possibility of those things.....but it can also be compassionate, psychic, mystical, imaginative, inspiration, ultransensitivity
as well as things like confusion, deception, misdiagnoses.

The main thing about Neptune in 5th is dissolution of boundaries in the areas of creative self expression which could including creativity, self expression, children, romance, having fun/entertainment.

i think i have potential to be alcoholic, but my own phobia stops me from being one, it naturally makes sure i don't drink enough to throw up. but i drink often, not specifically socially.

maybe its neptune 5th, maybe it isnt.

any aspects from planets in particular to cause this?

is it also other aspects? saturn - moon square = back forth between happy/unhappy, neptunes idea to solve = drink?

I guess

I use my Moon=Saturn/Neptune (t-square,midpoint picture) and my Saturn contraparallel Mercury-Venus-Neptune to restrict myself from drugs and alcohol and to be practical with my spirituality, idealism, inspiration.

neptune might rule all those things, but i don't know many people who like {films in particular} as much as me.

everyone has a neptune somewhere, and everyone isn't in love with films like i am.

or drink for that matter.

Libralove,

exactly......like all the other planets, Neptune has numerous ways to express its energies.

I am not really into films myself. I did go to the movies a lot when I was in the navy though. I also fantasized about a career in acting, producing, directing, and screenwriting when I was a teenager. I have the same birthdate as actress,Winona Ryder too. I didn't know about that until 1998 when I read her birthdate listed AstroNumerology book under Scorpio 3 lifepath.

I am not sure. My mother has Neptune in 5th house, and she's not into films like you. I think that it's more about the choices that you use with your Neptune energy.

Free will is the ultimate factor.

Hi LibraLove09,

Neptune in the 5th House doesn't mean the same thing for everyone. One thing you need to do first is to see how Neptune aspects other planets in your chart and how it aspects your Ascendant or Midheaven.

I have Neptune in the 6th House and I love films, music, theatre, television; I'm also musician for the last 33 years and went to one of the best music schools in the world. Neither Neptune or Venus (the other artistic/creative ruler) is in my 5th House.

I think of Michael Moore, he is a filmmaker who loves film. His Midheaven is in Taurus.

Lets see...the point I'm trying to make is that there is soooo much more information that you need to learn about astrology before you merely believe that it's JUST Neptune in your 5th House that makes you love film. It's possible that it's a number of things in your chart.

I wouldn't use Neptune in the 5th as an indicator of Addiction/Alcoholism. As a professional astrologer, it's definitely not the first thing I look for when looking at someone's chart. The first few things that scream addiction in a chart is when Neptune aspects the Sun, Moon or ASC and it doesn't matter if it's a trine or sextile or squares or oppositions. Neptune touching important areas of the chart may translate as addiction - and it's not definite, either. Sometimes it translates as high religious ideals, idealism in general, inspiration, imagination, vision - lack of vision or increasing vision. There's so much, so don't lock yourself into that one measurement, as a matter of fact it's not that important in the scheme of things. What planet rules your 5th House? Answer that question and you'll receive a lot of information about how your 5th house operates and about your creativity, etc.

Hi Glaucus,

Your 5th House Neptune stories are very enlightening. I didn't know that part of your story. It really attests to the definition of Neptune sometimes being "Things are not as they appear to be." Very interesting.

****

my mom has neptune in 5th and she's pretty much the opposite of everything you listed

she has no clue about music. awful bloody taste. movies she sometimes enjoys but nothing violent which limits movies to barely a few.. and she does not drink at all... and no drugs

her serious boyfriends are another story. one was a junkie and a amateur chemist, other was a professor of chemistry in a local university.. there's another but that one is very unbalanced (pisces moon) and slightly looney.

and a helluva lot of empathy. too much if you ask me

intense moon neptune aspects make for someone who likes to get away from reality get lost in forms of art.... and other neptunian stuff . I'd know. i have moon conjunct neptune and i've been told i get lost in music. i watch an insane amount of movies and i enjoy amounts of booze that would make a rhino tipsy. so either its the moon neptune. or we're both young and enjoying said stuff

in my personal experience and in my chart.

just a thought but a leo sun with nep in 5th? have you thought about acting yourself? maybe thats why you love them so much? I don't see nept in any house specifically with drug/alcohol issues, everyone I know has either issues themselves or their parents have issues, neptune is always there somewhere usually with close orbs to sun, moon or merc,

i have neptune in the 5th and my daughter has neptune conj asc as well as pisces moon in the 1st. i can tell you the day i conceived because i was flooded with light all around my vision this bright light and this feeling of love and complete protection from God.. up until that day did not truly believe/have faith, and ever since I have and do. Could be related? Also have pisces sun, which aligns with neptune h5 principle. they're sextile, altho out of sign. never been an alcoholic, lots of creative interests. hey have you heard of the Criterion Collection? one of my "materialistic" dreams is owning all their films that i like, and i do like most of them!
