I've just recently started studying these, always kind of ignored them before, and it got me a little excited because I'm seeing things that make sense that I can't chalk up to any transits. Anyone else have any knowlege about these?

They are useful if you would like to see what's going on in a year of your life. They are only super important when the solar return planets conjunct natal planets or progressed planets and points. Also if an eclipse conjuncts a solar return planet or point.

I'm a bit lazy and don't look at mine often. However, they are interesting in looking to the past and seeing what has happened. For example, often when I move, the sign of the Moon is indicative of it (Sag, Pisces). The position of the Sun is really important too and sets the tone of what I did that year and how I was directing my ego.

Aspects between the SR and natal chart can be looked at as well as the SR on its own. I tend to prefer to read them on my own to start off with. You can look at aspects but as I mentioned before, I just like to look what sign the planets may fall in and their house positions, I've gathered a lot just by looking at those.

I should have a bit more of a look at them myself.

They are forecasts for the year.

You can use it as a stand alone chart.
The houses, the ascendant/descendant axis,midheaven/imum coeli axis is personal

The planets in houses, planets aspecting the ascendant/descendant axis, planets aspecting the midheaven/imum coeli axis are personal too.

the aspects to the Sun are important because they highlight the year. Also aspects to the moon are important.

the last solar return period that I had was a grand cross of Moon,Venus,Jupiter, and Uranus. The events were in synchronicity with that. My exgf broke up with me during that solar return. There were a lot of stress, friction involving women, love, relationships, and change. I am glad that solar return is over. the only aspect that I have to my current solar return Moon is wide conjunct to the Sun and a close sextile to Pluto which seems have to do with opportunity for healing. I have transiting Pluto sextile my Moon right now which means that I am having it for numerous Solar lunar returns. I had transiting Saturn oppose my Moon last year and in late of the year before that. I had Moon oppose Saturn for numerous lunar returns including the lunar return of the day I got dumped. I was actually dumped a few hours before my lunar return.

the solar return can be combined with natal chart, transit, and secondary progressions.

I am a strong believer in solar returns. I have 2 books on them, and I purchased 2 solar return report programs. I am a strong believer in lunar returns too. They are like a forecast for the month. I have a book on them. I purchased 2 lunar return programs. I am following my lunar returns regularly now. I take a preview of my lunar return before it starts.

Solar Return and Lunar Return charts are good forecast tools.

I recommend both Mary Fortier Shea's and Raymond Merriman's solar return books. I have both.
