Why is it often referred to as 'the' aspect that promises a good relationship ?

I understand 'how' it enhances a relationship. But I need a more psychological explanation. Is it the Ego/Sun of one person being treated in a way it desires by the other person's Venus ?

Perhaps it is also good feeling. Venus shows love to/ admires the sun, something positive all around. Being around venus uplifts the sun, because of the overall positive (loving sort of) energy.

This is in contrast to, lets say Mars conjunct sun, which gives a rapport of energy and excitement, but also friction and quarrel.

If the sun is the Ego, Venus brings it's gifts to adore the sun's essence. The sun does not have to earn the love (i.e., Saturn - the planet of trails and earning), but is sort of a natural consequence. This improves the sun's self-esteem, so it can shine like it should. In return, the sun offers a genuine admiration of the love nature of venus, and is very likely to offer protection, and pamper venus the way she wishes to be acknowledged. It is a win-win situation.
Because the sun feels admired (Leo's desire), they generously give to venus back in return. It is a great cycle that hardly damages, even if some cracks come in between. Venus will tolerate the sun's bossiness and arrogance, while the sun will give in to venus's laziness and charm. Since it is conjunct and both are in the same sign - the rapport and understanding will harmonize towards compatibility and happiness.

I have this both ways with my boyfriend. I think it makes us more understanding of and appreciative of each other. Not to mention the attraction. Usually venus finds the sun very charming. And yes, it does contribute greatly to romance! (We have a sun square mars double whammy that makes for sexual tension)

I always end up with men who I have the sun venus square with for some reason. The comraderie and social fun is still there, not to mention enjoying being with eachother, but it's not quite as loving and forgiving/tolerant like the conj and trine. Anyone else have experience with the square?

I never really thought of the square to be negative with Venus/Sun (or even moon really). There still feels like an attraction, but maybe it's more wrought with tension/friction or something.
As lovely as the Sun/Venus aspects are though, I really don't feel they are deep enough for me or something. There's definitely good feelings and beauty and some admiration involved, but I think without some kind of stability in the relationship the aspect itself can feel even superficial (or it has for me at times).

I think we can even look at it in archetypal terms in the sense that the Sun is like a solar masculine and Venus is all femininity, and then the two meet and it's nice. I hear it's supposed to also be powerful when it's the male Venus conjunct the female Sun in particular.

The basic notion is yin and yang, which the Sun and Venus are a complementary pair of this. I personally just met someone who is was born only 3 weeks after me, and we both have very Sun/Leo dominant charts, but his Leo Sun is sextile my Gemini Venus.

Mars conjunct Mars in Aries is a hot aspect, but its both yang and yang which some would presume isn't the best for a male/female relationship, since the female would possibly dominate (like that is a bad thing), this doesn't seem to be true in my case.

Is anyone familiar with the inter-aspect of his Venus square your Mars? I read it produces alot of sexual energy and verbal sparing.

I have not had this aspect with any of the men I seriously dated, but I have this aspect with my son. Go figure! hehe!

Missneptune, I think the Mars/Venus stuff is significant if either planet is prominent in either chart, and I also think double whammies make it 'felt' more.
Saying that, I do share a Mars/Venus square DW with someone and it's pretty hot
There's not really verbal sparring so much as a very primal sexual tone to the relationship...it's not feeling too cuddly to me LOL, just very sexy with a lot of friction, almost an unsettling attraction. Venus is my chart ruler, so I can really feel this too.
It's possible there would be sparring if things got long-term (which they won't), but I have no idea. I have a Venus/Mars opposition in my own chart, so I like that kind of tension though....I wonder if someone with a trine or sextile would like it as much....

The guy I'm dating now, both our Suns and Venuses square each other, and I think for us it's more of a fascination with the other person. We really don't "get" each other or the way the other person functions, but we enjoy being together, as odd as that seems to me.

Of course, our Mars square each other too. His Moon squares my Sun too. I never really thought I'd like dating someone with so many square aspects to my chart, but it's kinda fun so far.
