I love looking at draconic synastry--I think it really shows the emotional quality of my relationships very accurately.

The ideal is to check out natal synastry, natal-to-draconic, AND draconic-to-draconic and consider them all together.

The one thing I don't personally find very useful or revealing is using a composite chart, maybe partly because my composite with my ex felt wildly inaccurate and unlike our relationship to both of us.

So when I look at a relationship between two people astrologically, I look at the following (in the following order):
1) Each person's individual natal, separately...I can't stress enough how crucial this is...a couple can have all lovely Mars-Venus Sun-Moon trines in synastry and if one of them has, say, an 8th house stellium and a 0 degree natal Moon-Pluto-Venus square, that person would be drawn to a thornier relationship

2) Natal-to-natal, draco-to-natal, and draco-to-draco synastry...and the more couples I read for, the more important I find conjunctions involving the nodes and the angles--more important, maybe even, than aspects between the personal planets IN THE NATAL, but interestingly, personal planet aspects in draco-to-draco or draco-to-natal are really important. I think the reason draco synastry is so "on" is because it's node-based. Planets conjunct any angle the in natal are key, as are angle-to-angle conjunctions. In the draco, planet-to-planet or asteroid connections are key.

3) Progessed-to-natal and progressed-to-progessed synastry. (I find this much more valuable/accurate than progressed composites.)

The Draco synastry says more about fated-feeling, karmic, "soulmate"-like connections than natal synastry, I think. I often look at draco or draco-natal synastry and think--Aha! That explains it! No wonder!

Lucia23, I agree that it's important to look at each natal chart separately too - you can have some great synastry aspects with someone, just to have these aspects not meaning much if this person isn't actually interested/affected by these aspects. Also, someone with a quite conflicted chart can be a hard partner, no matter how sweet the aspects can be. We have to see what a person actually actually wants in a relationship to understand how the synastry aspects plays out.

I guess that the draco charts are kind of soul charts, and so far I kinda find them interesting. But I wonder if it could be more meaningful than the tropical charts sometimes, in synastry that is. For example, what would be stronger - a soulmate asteroid pair tight conjunction between two tropical charts, or this same tight conjunction between two draconic charts?

About the composites, actually they are more than just the visible aspects. I know a great astrologer that is very accurate in composite readings, and he uses midpoints in the chart readings too. And these midpoints aspects can actually tell a lot.

When I look at the draco-to-draco synastry between myself and the significant relationships I've had, there are almost always a handful of exact conjunctions between planets or (more often) planets and angles. I notice that other than the conjunctions, the synastry tends to be very sparse in aspects. It seems those conjunctions describe the deepest lessons I learned in each relationship -- things that aren't necessarily apparent in the regular synastry.

In fact, when looking at draco synastries, I generally only pay attention to conjunctions and sometimes oppositions. They seem to be the most telling and the most easily felt.

Natally, my north node is a little under 10 degrees Aries, so most of my natal planets are in the same sign as in the draconic chart. I wonder what the effect of having the north node near 0 degrees Aries would have -- would the person feel the soul lessons they learn from their partner in a more obvious way than most?
