I'm getting very confused about how/whether horary can be useful or accurate.

Someone posted a "Does he love me?" question recently, and people weighed in that a chart could not answer that question, but from wjat I've read about horary, it's exactly meant to provide an accurate yes/no. Another posted, "Will he come back to me after he leaves his relationship?" which was apparently invalid because it is unknown whether he will leave the relationship. Someone suggested the alternative question, "Will he ever come back to me fully prepared to be in a healthy long term relationship?" But to me, "fully prepared," "healthy," and "long-term" are just as subjective as whether someone loves you--there are so many different things that each of those ideas could mean.

It seems to me that asking a direct yes/no question about the future implies a fatalistic belief that what will happen is set in stone, so it seems to me more useful to ask a question about the present, such as "Does he love me?" But I'm not sure a chart can answer either of those things with a definitive yes/no.

I have heard that good horary astrologers discuss dynamics and details beyond the yes/no, which brings more finesse...but the point of the chart is supposed to be to get a definitive answer yes/no answer.

What do you think?

I don't know much about the horary art, but I can tell what I've experienced.

The first time I've made an horary chart, it did show me what was haunting me in the moment. I've asked some skilled astrologers for help, and they did tell me what I was afraid to hear. Yet in the end, it did have a happy ending.

Were those astrologers wrong about the symbolism interpretation? I don't really think so. Coz what they interpreted out of the symbolism was right, and it did show what I was afraid of. Then were the stars lying? I also don't think so. Well, then what's wrong? Why was it that it showed how things could go wrong yet it didn't?

One of the astrologers told me that the stars never lie, and it actually depends on how each of us interpret the symbolism.

And yeah, actually the chart showed (at least) two possible endings - a bad and a good one.

So an horary chart shows more than a simple yes and no, but it all depends on how we interpret the signs.

nothing, anyway, ever ever is set in stone. even the most experienced (horary) astrologers and otherwise will tell you that. the only thing 100% is death. also, a good experienced horary astrologer will explain that a chart is not valid forever. it is only valid a certain amount of time. (which i have heard all sorts...3 months, 6 months, etc.) the main point is how well the astrologer interprets the answer, which is given by the querent to the universe. in other words, an astrologer may analyze the chart, but being human, may miss something very important in the question's chart. i think you should research the internet and find a good horary astrologer with experience and does not mind showing how he or she got the answer or explaining the accuracy rate. however, i have asked questions and they have been accurate so far.
yes, it makes more sense to ask a question about the present, like "will i pass my exam i took today" but we are all human and curiosity makes us want to know what will happen later.

Thanks for these comments.

I've been thinking a lot about uses for all kinds of astrology lately. I guess my ideal use for astro or tarot readings would be to help people find ways to get what they want. That's what I look for--insights to help me make improvements. And, deep explanations of how and why other people are feeling and how they can be persuaded (8th house stellium here.)

I see a lot of uses of readings that I don't relate to--"you will not have what you want"--well, lovely, thanks so much! I always want to know how I can change things to get what I want, and if it really, truly is impossible, all the details of why, and then ideas for what I should do instead.

I think in any kind of reading the key is the reader--both their knowledge of the skill, and their natural intuitive ability.

Lucia23, I also have an 8th house stellium. X3 And I like your points of view.

Astrology and tarot are both systems of symbolism, and I also believe that in each system of symbolism we can find some insights to help us understand situations better. And yeah, our knowledge and capacity to relate things through our intuition is the key.

Sometimes, I do tarot readings as well, but they are only useful if I can intuitively relate my situation with it. So that simple answers like "yes" or "no" doesn't really mean much to me (although they can temporarily make me feel either happier or depressed lol~).

Horary is best left for professionals who can give an accurate answer.

Comica23, I've noticed a disproportunate number of 8th house stellium people who are into astrology! Makes sense. I read tarot very accurately for other people, but not for myself...I'm too clouded by wishes and frustrations.

Kismet, how do you form a question that will yeild an accurate answer?

Lucia,

You ask a question that you have no clue about and mean it.

It's not up to the client to have a good question; it's up to the astrologer to know what they are talking about. But if you are going to pay money it, you better have a real question you want answered.

As far as seeing if somebody loves you, this can absolutely be seen in horary.

Ah, see, when I get to the point of asking a yes/no question, I kind of know the situation is no what I want to hear...otherwise I'd be off with the object of my obsession, happily doing Leo things, finding out if he loved me by hinting!

But it makes sense to me that "Does X love me?" could be seen in horary, and even if "love" is subjective, a skilled astrologer could give details.

EDITED TO ADD: I just saw your response to the "Does he love me?" post, Kismet...I see how it worked.
