Good question. I don't get it either. The theory is, you put the north node at 0 degrees Aries, and move everything else in your chart by the same degrees as it took to get the north node there, and that represents your true purpose in life, as the 0 Aries point represents the dawn of your existance on planet earth. Alot of people put a great deal of importance on the 0 Aries point, and North Node does represent your life goals. This is said to be the point where your soul truly commits to life in this dimension, and the entailing circumstances. It's like the doorway to this earthly existance. What I don't get, is ....well I just don't buy it I think. But I've been wrong many times before. Sorry, this hasn't been a very helpful post. It just seems to me that we complicate astrology to the point of just being noise sometimes, but I may just be too lazy for all the layers that are believed to exist. IP: Logged |

I don't see a Draco chart as a past life chart...I use it as a chart of the higher self, "true self" or soul's destiny. The tropical natal chart shows the potentials for your more everday experience of this life (including, of course, intense and profound transformations), and your personality tendencies and interests...your draco shows the deeper, more soul-level "you" and your path on that level.Like everything involving the lunar nodes, I find that I respond to my Draco natal and synastries on a deep, intuitive level...they just feel right. This is a very good point. Although I'm finding it useful to work with my draco chart, I sometimes think this applies to the use of a gazillion asteroids in synastry, without substantial analysis of the meaning of each in the context of each natal chart. I do think asteroids CAN be used in a constructive and meaningful way, and so can draco charts...but they are often not. IP: Logged |

I agree with Lucia`s take on Draco charts. They are indicative of a spiritual dimension of a personality. They could also relate to past lives because of the involvement of the SN. All oppositions in the usual Draco chart would be conjunctions in a Draco chart calculated with the SN; in this way they relate also to past lives. I think it`s best to think of it in term of the nodal axis. What does it mean to you? That interpretation has to be applied to the Draco chart, too. IP: Logged |

DD, a question about draconic charts in synastry: when you compare draconic to natal charts, which aspects do you use, and what orb do you use?IP: Logged |

I think draconic charts can illuminate a deeper dimension of the self -- one that's only hinted at in a natal chart. It seems like the value and function of draco charts aren't well-understood yet... there's not really consensus about how they work. From my own observations, the sign placement of draconic planets tend to show the areas those planets live out karmic lessons in this life time. The draconic chart isn't really about personality, but about the tendencies and experiences that come as a result of karma and spiritual growth. A draconic chart is like getting a peak into the real purpose of the incarnation we chose for this lifetime. For instance, a friend of mine has a stellium of Capricorn and Sag planets in the 6th house. This definitely reflects his personality, but he seems to have recurring lessons with issues of secrecy, power, unintentional manipulation, control... very Plutonic subjects. He has five draconic planets in Scorpio. Interestingly, his south node is also in Scorpio, so it seems there are past-life themes he needs to revisit and overcome. My north node is in an early degree of Aries, so my draconic chart is mostly the same as my tropical one -- so I can't speak too much about how it 'fits' me in a different way. Regardless, I think draconic charts are most useful when used in combination with other charts -- such as draco-to-draco or draco-to-natal synastry, or draco-to-natal comparisons... looking primarily at conjunctions, oppositions, and maybe squares. I do not find much value in looking at trines or sextiles with a draconic chart comparison, for the same reason I don't find value in looking at trines or sextiles to the nodes. Nodes don't produce energy of their own like planets do, so they can't really be recipients of trines/sextiles (which denote energy exchange instead of energy creation -- energy can't be exchanged if there is no energy to begin with!). Fascinating none the less! I hope more research is done on draconic astrology because right now, there just isn't much consistent information out there. ------------------ Denise Red Rock Astrology

"The deeper dimension of the self" - I like that expression.Draconic charts. Mine has 8 planets in water signs. My natal chart has none (though it includes Moon CNJ Pluto and Scorpio Rising). Another friend with an elemental void has a similar situation with his draconic chart. It really shows what is underneath, or behind, however you want to look at it. IP: Logged |

Lucia,I`m usually only considering conjunctions / oppositions within 3° at most (I prefer 2 degrees though). If I see a DW like Venus-Mars-trine I make a mental note, but donīt REALLY take it serious. I am very certain conjunction and opposition work though. IP: Logged |
