I’m trying to rectify my birthtime and am currently working my way through Noel Tyl’s book on Solar Arcs. For those who are familiar with Solar Arcs my question is do you also look for aspects made to natal planets from the solar arc directed ascendant or do you only apply the solar arc directions to the actual planets? For example, if I give myself a 15 Aries asc as a starting point and I have natal Mars at 26 Taurus then could I safely assume that at age 41 a ‘Mars/Asc event’ could be expected to occur. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Winter,The answer to the Mars=ASC question is yes. If you look at page 425 you'll see that he has added explainations for Mars=Ascendant and the other way around, Ascendant=Mars. With Solar Arcs you can have planets applying to planets and points, angles, etc. and the other way around. It's a great book and you'll learn a lot. Take your time and you'll have that knowledge forever. Also, very important. When you use the slash / , like you did above, that means "the midpoint between" so when you asked your question about Mars/ASC you should have written it like I did as "Mars=ASC" Mars/ASC means the Mars Ascendant midpoint. It will make a big difference as you continue on through the book because of the heavy emphasis on midpoints. Keep up the good work. IP: Logged |

Thanks Geo I am enjoying this book but have only just made it to the midpoint chapter. I’m trying to make some headway on my birth time before I go any further. There is an hours discrepancy between my mothers recollection and what is on my hospital record. The weird thing is using solar arcs I can find incidents that are supported using both times, if I use my starting point at the halfway mark of both times I get nothing. I was hoping to nail it using the ascendant. Thanks for the tips.

Hi Winter,This is only a suggestion but if you finish the book first, you'll find that your rectification of your chart may go much faster. He provides excellent tools to guide your rectification. As you probably already know, Chapter 7 is all about rectification and if you read through the section where he rectifies Sir Edmund Hilary's chart, that helps as well. His book "Astrology of the Famed" is probably the best book on rectification that I've ever read. It's no longer published but you can find it on the web and order it. OK, I'll sit down now. Thanks Geo,Wish I had the patience to finish the book before I jump into this, heaven knows what I’ll discover but I’m pretty sure I’m Aries rising – the only thing finish in my life would originate from Helsinki . Noted incorrect spelling, I’m just being silly. If I may pick your brains, I’m finding it a struggle coming up with enough notable events to use and I’m grasping at anything these days. For example would I use the death of my grandfather even though personally I was not affected by his death? Like, it was an event but because I did not really know him I was unaffected by his death. Thanks for the book recommendation, I’ve been in a book buying frenzy the past few months so I’ve added this to the stash – found a 2nd hand bargain online.
