What is your opinion on Whole Sign system. Do you think the house placements of the planets are better translated using Whole House, or Placidus?? Have you checked your own chart and see what changes.. I did I can actually related to both.. This is what changes for me Chiron 1st to 2nd Saturn 3rd to 4th Venus 4th to 5th Pluto/Uranus 7th to 8th Neptune 9th to 10th

I have found that it sometimes doesnt matter what degree a certain planet is in it's more of the energy of the house that shows how planets work so i like whole sign and equal...IP: Logged |

There was a thread on here recently about the Koch system, and now I LOVE Koch! Best of all worlds. The changes in my chart: -in Placidus, Jupiter in 2nd, Mars in 8th -in Whole, Jupiter in 3rd, Mars in 9th -in Koch, Jupiter in 3rd, Mars in 8th (this is exactly right.) I've looked at 7 or 8 different charts I'd studied a lot, and Koch feels most right in those charts too. IP: Logged |

I'll have to consider this some more. With Koch, Moon moves from 2nd to 3rd, which I have always agreed with. Communication has always been an issue with me and my mom. BUT, I would have 5 freaking planets in my 8th house! OMG! I already had Venus, Pluto, and Mercury there. With Koch: Jupiter from 7th to 8th Saturn from 7th to 8th That's just insanity. On the other hand, it would kind of explain so much LOL. But my 7th house looks so lonely. Only my Sun is there. Then again...that would kind of explain so much haha. As far as Whole Signs, I don't like that the MC and IC aren't necessarily the 10th and 4th house cusps. Same with Equal signs. It always throws me off. Both of those also put my Venus in the 9th house, which is totally wrong. I know my Venus so well that I would actually determine the type of chart to use by that one placement. It is definitely 8th house. ------------------ My Chart IP: Logged |

For me personally it is not a valid method to base my decision on what I like to see (and even the judgmeent: Oh this fits SO WELL with my personality often just is expression of one`s momentary subjective feelings). For me there has to be an underlying basic astronomical / mathematical correct theory, which is valid for the whole world (I view astrology as an allencompassing "worldwide" or at least "earthwide" system). Plus the system has to make logical sense ("astro-logical" sense that is). But these are just my premises and what I would base my decision on.

I personally don't use whole sign...I prefer equal house or Koch. They both describe me well. All I can say is if Whole Sign fits your personality and who you are and not just who you want to be, then I think you should use it. :-)In Whole Sign Uranus,Sun,Mars,Mercury are in 6th, Neptune 7th, Venus 8th, Moon 4th, Jupiter Rx 12th, Chiron Rx 11th, Saturn 3rd, Pluto 5th In Placidus: Uranus 5th, Sun,Mars,Mercury in 6th, Moon 3rd, Saturn 3rd, Pluto 4th, Neptune 6th, Venus 7th,Jupiter Rx 12th In Koch and Equal house: Uranus, Sun,Mars,Mercury 5th, Saturn 2nd/3rd, Moon 3rd, Neptune 6th, Jupiter Rx 11th IP: Logged |

Iīve always used Placidus; I didn`t use Koch because apparently the housecups are calculated astronomically wrongly (though I donīt have the knowledge to prove it).BUT of course Placidus doesn`t fit in with my "conditions / premises". *sighs* I donīt use Whole Sign system, though it would fit with my premises, because the ASC is the one moment in time you are born, when it all starts. so it makes sense to use it as first house cusp. I admit though, that you can have different views on that. so purely logically (in relation to my own thought-system that is) it would be only consequent to use equal system for me. Damn it, I LOVE Placidus! IP: Logged |

Same here DD, although the part of me that likes consistency feels a bit unsettled that there are so many choices when it comes to house system. How can you give instructions, do readings, etc. when there is never one definitive "correct" way of viewing things? 1+1 is not always 2, etc. It's not an exact science. I know there has been debate on this topic numerous times before on this board, (and it has raged for centuries on a larger scale) but I'm just saying...sometimes the lack of precision about something as basic as what house to use is frustrating, especially when trying to be an advocate for the merits of astrology. I guess one could say the same about Tarot though. Is my Virgo showing? Every once in a blue moon that happens IP: Logged |

I don't care much for Whole Sign because the idea behind it isn't very realistic.....and transit-wise it doesn't make sense for me. If it worked in a perfect world, we'd all love horoscopes..haha. Though Interestingly enough, whole sign puts my Neptune in the 1st. Hmmmm.... God that makes so much sense too! Maybe its just that my chart ruler's in the 12th (by Placidus and others). =__= Placidus, Equal House, and Koch leave all my planets in the same positions (house-wise) but placidus makes the most sense to me. I understand that people in far northern lattitudes use the latter two since their houses are skewed by Placidus, but it makes more sense that we dedicate more time to some houses more than others instead of paying equal attention to them.

I use placidus house system. If I use equal my house system changes much. My merk/uran change from house 2 to house 1. My moon change from house 11 to 10. It's possible it works but I've always use placidus. I've tried to use equal but I always switch back.IP: Logged |

I think it really just depends on what makes sense to you. I feel like it also depends on what planets shift and what those shifts could potentially mean to you, and in what way. For example my moon shifts from my 11th to my 12th house, and in reading about 12th house moons I really understand more clearly my emotional tendencies. I always felt that the 11th house moon fit but only slightly. (I really don't like big crowds all the time, I spend a lot of time alone in deep thought and introversion)......i need my time to chill and me alone and i really feel quite awkward in large social settings, not sure exactly what to do usually just wanting to escape (12th house) the situation. I like whole sign. It throws my moon in the 9th which fits better than the 8thWhy does placidus always eliminate an axis? I've seen horrid looking charts with that system. IP: Logged |

That's because you're not supposed to use Placidus for charts that involve extreme latitudes, in the first place. Professional astrologers always draw those particular charts up in Equal house. That's pretty much the rule of thumb I go by too. However, I wasn't born far up the globe or far below, so when I pull up my charts and those of the people I know, I use Placidus. Most other house systems throw my planets into houses where they don't belong.
I don't have a travel-fetish and prefer to stay rooted to one location instead of bouncing around, so bumping my moon-pluto conjunction into the ninth house like the other systems do, makes no sense. Also, whenever female members of my family pass away, they usually come and "visit" me in dreams, which is pretty good confirmation that my conjunction belongs in the eighth house like the Placidus system indicates, not the ninth. Another example of confirmation - I was the only one of my mother's five children that was there with her when she got sick (which eventually led to her passing). That's a pretty literal manifestation of Moon conjunct Pluto in the 8th house, I'd think. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the explanation, Stacy. I didn't quite understand what I read on another board about the locations for Placidus.IP: Logged |

Ironically enough Placidus seems to work even with distorted houses in Sweden.
I have a friend in Sweden, and when I met her (did not really know her back then), she asked me about a horoscope. I made two, one with equal signs, one with Placidus. I was very certain she`d say the one with equal signs fit her life and personality best, cause I thought it was just ridiculous to see her ASC at 14 Cancer and her IC at 14 Leo! However she said without a doubt that the interpretation based on Placidus houses was the right one. She was actually surprised how I could know all these things about her life, family and past. lol It really surprised me to see that as I hadnīt expected it.

I would say overall...Placidus fits me a lot better than Equal does. A ninth house stellium just makes a lot more sense for me than an eighth house one does...------------------ Pisces Sun Capricorn Moon/Venus Taurus Ascendant Aquarius Mercury Leo Mars IP: Logged |
