Mars in earth will do well in any kind of business.Mars in Capricorn is all-business by nature,Mars in Taurus likes results,and Mars in Virgo pays attention to detail.
Other Mars placements may be flighty,impatient,or just be interested in other things but Mars in earth (Capricorn especially) is made for business,large OR small--
I'm not sure about athletes,that would be worth looking into,it might be a combo of things---

Oh boy. Can't argue the perfectionist/workaholic comment. I get really down on myself when I know I could do it better but just can't seem to get there.
As much as I get stressed out over work, strangely enough I need it. Something to put all of that stress into or something.

I am a Virgo Mars and I get physically (and mentally) ill if I donīt get to work! I never miss one detail. I LOVE working with people and solving problems. My Mars is conjunct my Ascendant and I am very physically "apt" and had exercising not been available to me I would have jumped off a bridge a long time ago.

As a Mars in Taurus, I admire greatly the way Mars in Virgo works. As a Virgo Asc, I admire most things Virgo anyway.

Mars in Capricorn I'm sure have its strengths, but nothing really stands out to me.

My own Mars in Taurus is so slow, and with a tendency to get stuck. I know for a fact people think I'm dumber than I am by some of the things they say to me.

I followed a thread about mars in Libra doing well in business despite having a weak mars placement like Libra n cancer. Later somebody said very few mars in Libra r good at business compared to mars in Capricorn.
