This house seems to be kind of ignored by most people since it doesn't have to do with anything immediate (like money, love, career, health,etc.). What's the importance of this house and what does it mean in our lives?

I have Moon conjunct Mercury in Pisces in the Ninth House. Daydreaming is one of my favorite hobbies. I also travel regularly. (Lately my Cancer Ascendant has been resisting all the traveling, though, and I've committed to staying home or at least staying off a plane for the rest of the year.)

I am a voracious reader of poetry, philosophy, astrology, religion, and a few types of academic literature; only rarely do I read fiction. I consider myself intelligent, but I have a really hard time sitting down and putting my thoughts into words. I picked up a biography of Kahlil Gibran yesterday at the library, written by his cousin's son. I am enthralled.

I think this link explains well the things I find most interesting in life: http://www.astro.com/astrology/in_dgninthhouse_e.htm

I think in a way the Ninth House is related to my love, career, and health... In order to feel emotionally and mentally healthy, I need my Ninth House stimulated. I think my marriage is failing due to a lack of Ninth House stimulation. (My psychologist at one time told me that I would probably need to find intellectual stimulation outside my marriage and learn to appreciate the other things my husband offers me instead.) Ideally I need my career to be something that nourishes my interests in Ninth House matters.

But I have a Tenth House Aries Sun, so I can make money even if I hate my job, but it will definitely kill my spirit in little ways every day. I'm a stay at home mom, now, but my last job was extremely challenging and high paying. But I'll tell you what, I had no problem quitting...

I have no clue if anything I'm saying has to do with Ninth House stuff. This is why I don't respond to many threads here. I'm insecure and constantly doubt myself.

Isn't that the toughest thing ever? Its like having to ignore the elephant in the room dancing around in a ballerina costume.

I don't EVER date people whom I deem intellectually inferior to me. I may sleep with them(granted very few), but don't date them.

My Libra boyfriend has Cap Asc with Sun in 3rd and he is just as curious about the world as I am

I am Sun, Jupiter, Neptune, Mercury in 9th; Mercury is actually very close to the 10th house -less than 4 degrees-and I tend to consider both houses in its case.

I need to be intellectually stimulated in romantic relationships. my 5th house rule is the Sun and it falls in the 9th house.

When it comes to marriage, I need intimacy. But I think that can only be achieved successfully when intellectual stimulation abounds.

My 7th house ruler is in the 8th(sex and intimacy) and 8th house ruler is in the 7th(marriage and partnerships).

Sure is.

He's a mechanic and an engineer and is bright and almost genius-like when it comes to that sort of stuff, but he has no interest in philosophy or religion or open-ended conversations about "why" and "what if". He is one of the most practical, concrete people I have ever known. He can be very thoughtful, but he usually dismisses (albeit gently) my endless wondering about...well...everything.

I doubt that.

Intellects and scholars are easily confused. Often the latter is seen as more "practical" than the former.

But here is the question; would flying be possible if it wasn't for the intellects?

Sure we need the scholars to look into the details and calculations etc. But we usually spark the idea.

My pluto is in 9H

Grew up Christian - Sunday school and all that and I would say since I left home I have been exploring all religions and no longer attend church

I believe in Jesus and all that but I am not a religious person. I believe spirituality is a personal path and has nothing to do with showing up to church. I have had more sacred experiences while meditating alone or doing yoga

To wrap it up, i have read that 9H is very spiritual and I have definitely transformed in this area of my life (hence Pluto being here)

Just my experience

Mars in 9th, I need to search for meaning in everything I do, it's essential to my general happiness and perception/philosophy on the world. Without a good philosophy or perception of your life it can dramatically change your happiness thus effecting everything else.

The 9th house definitely doesn't seem to get as much love from astrologers as the 7th, 8th, or 10th houses. I feel like the 9th house is related to education and the 'voyages' we take with our minds. My Venus is in the 9th house... I'm very attracted to intellectuals, academics, and philosopher types. (Too bad it so difficult to find guys like that, however!)

I've got heavy 9th house inclinations since my Mars and Venus are in the 9th and I've got 3 planets in Sagittarius.

I feel like an outsider looking in the vast majority of the time, in part because I analyze everything. I love philosophy, spirituality (not religion- I care about the collective, not individual groups), and psychology. I really just have a love of learning- but not in the book sense. I tend to treat the world as if it is my playground/classroom and I have an appreciation for the absurd parts of life. If my occupation allowed me to travel the world, I would do so. Variety is indeed the spice of life, though I do like to have a stable home base to come back to.

Ultimately though, I feel like an outsider mostly because I really truly enjoy long, honest, deep conversations, and it seems like so many people simply don't engage on that level. When I do find the people that I can talk for hours with, I try to keep them in my life.

My mercury and sun both falls in the ninth house. My Mercury and Sun are both in Gemini.
I do also find myself sometimes always asking questions like "what if" all the time. I enjoy and love talking about those things and i'm always in my head constantly thinking,LOL. I agree heavily with enchantress299 post in this thread it was spot on to how I think the majority of the time,LOL!

That's why I think I got into Astrology.

I Never really hear or read anybody talking about the 9th house, especially with my placements.

Thanks for bring awareness with this thread..

I just had to quote this because this is paragraph is true to my life! Sometimes I feel like especially being a youngster that it's hard to find ppl that I can engage with topics like this. Its kinda like people always cut me out or don't care in a sense.I feel like sometimes I can talk to ppl for hours on subject like higher learning or philosophy practices , but maybe that's the Gemini in me talking!

Your post was was so awesome and true to life. You post actually put my thoughts of everyday life into words.

*Sidenote* Do you think that maybe this means that you attract a lot of Sagittarius energy and people? I have met three sags people that talked about things like this and actually understood where I was coming from. Don't get me wrong some were shallow, but most actually had a a lot of interesting things to say and felt the same way as me.

I'm glad that you were able to relate.

Oh, I KNOW that I attract a lot of Sag energy! Many of my close friends over the years have had either Sagittarius Sun, Moon, or Rising signs. Several of the people I've dated or wanted to date had heavy Sagittarius or Gemini.

I've got kind of a love/hate relationship with heavily influenced Sagittarius people though. On the one hand I really like their personalities, and I find it easy to talk to them, but on the other hand, many of them are over the top and try to maintain their independence in ways that I don't always agree with. I really prefer more stability than many of them are willing to provide (that's the Virgo in me and my fixed rising sign).

I am a bit puzzled: Uranus rules astrology.

Why would astrology belong to the 9th house then?

Astrology is a 9th House subject, I think, an intellectual study. I may be wrong.

The 9th house rules religion, self-fulfilling prophecies, paradigms and our relationship to new experiences. It also rules media and our quest for the meaning of life.

It's a pretty important house, since it has to do with spiritual growth, one's own philosophy and system of values (which rules one's behaviour), journeys and study.
Yes, I'd say it's overlooked when compared with the Asc-Desc (1st-7th), MC-IC axis (10th-4th) and the relationship houses like the 5th, 7th, 8th and 11th.
I would say it's similar to the 12th house in the sense that both deal with spiritual issues.
