I also have Gemini Moon in 9th.
Also Virgo Mercury but mine is 12th, and conjunct mars.

I'm EXTREMELY restless mentally. It's almost as if I NEED something going on. Sometimes multiple things going on or I start to get nervous tension. Music relaxes me. It's as if it taps into that 12th house and I can just escape into my imagination.

I have Mercury Square Moon.
In this situation, the moon is square it's sign ruler, Mercury, which is in it's other sign.
All of the nit-picking, criticism, and negative energies are directed internally, towards myself. I'm hardest on myself by a long, looooooooong shot. If I was as hard on others as myself, I'd not have a friend in the world or family that would go anywhere near me. It's constant. It never gives me a break but I somehow manage to make it more background noise.
When confronted with something that is emotionally complex, it sometimes takes me a long while to figure out how I feel. I may not have much reaction and this confuses people. It makes them believe that I'm unaffected and don't care. It's not true, I just need time to process it.
Unless it's something more simple, which is most things, then the reaction is more immediate.
I can be very out of touch with my emotions. I may feel a certain way. It may be very powerful, but, I'm unable to identify what it is. Or if I can do that, I may not be able to identify WHY I feel that way.

Sometimes also, I may be mad for example, because logically I think it calls for it. Not because it somehow swept me away into anger. To me, some situations and circumstances warrant a certain response and then I feel it. This happens a lot more than I realize probably. It's what gives the ability to turn off feelings on occasion. Or at least deny them and they get buried inside somewhere.

Weird.

I've been "mad" at someone since June. I honestly don't feel mad but what they did is messed up to me so.... Screw them.

Anyway....
Getting derailed a little bit.

I too have a Gemini Moon, and with a Leo Mercury. Moon in the 12th, Mercury in the 3rd. They are tightly sextile, so I suppose then that when working 'together', they are somewhat harmonious in action.

I'd say overall I have a good level of common sense, and I'm very quick to understand people not just mentally, but also emotionally. I feel that in order for good, solid communication with others, emotional input is usually necessary. When I'm giving others advice or just generally giving input, I try and give both logical and emotional answers because I don't believe you can solve a problem with just one way of relating.

I don't always say too much, especially if I'm emotionally uncomfortable or sometimes closed off (Moon in 12th) but I'm definitely a good listener. My Gemini Moon/Mars is sometimes way too easily distracted though. But I'm not bad at pretending to stay focused.

Hello!

I have the opposite to a few of you! As in I have a Virgo Moon and a Gemini Mercury. They don't square. Moon in 11th conjunct the 11th cusp, Mercury in 8th.

I am very hard on myself, very high expectations, I feel I need to do everything myself instead of getting someone else to do it; which leads to me having low expectations of others.

I always try to plan/organise tasks for me to do to keep me occupied and also events with friends/family. It's like my mind needs stimulation all the time, and I'll go to great lengths to get it.

I think I'm a different thinker to a lot of the people around me (everyone will say that!!!) Because people seem to worry about things that I don't even think are a problem. Have both Mercurial signs as moon/mer can be really helpful for my studies as a computer scientist because my mind will eventually work out the answer, if I struggle!!

Happy new year all!

I get along very well with them, and out of my family members, they are who im closest to.

Oh ok! That's probably the Virgo moon coming out there. Doing it themselves, then complaining about having no help! That happens to me sometimes.

Thank you! However some people simply don't get our sense of humour, which is a shame. Nice to hear!

What's the Sun sign of your family member with them Moon + Mercury placements?

Hey, I have Scorpio Moon sextile Virgo Mercury so this is very close to my heart.

I actually wrote a page about this on my blog that may be helpful to you.

http://astroarena12.blogspot.com/2014/09/moon-mercury-aspects-gift-of-gab.html

Basically, I experience Moon-Mercury as:
*feeling very at ease around people who are very witty, lively, and intelligent
*feeling distinctly bored and restless around people who aren't funny or interesting
*needing to talk about your feelings
*needing to talk, period, and feel comfortable enough to say whatever's on your mind
*talking very quickly and sometimes rambling or going on in an unfiltered way
*love of reading and natural talent for writing
*feelings being able to change instantly, like a switch
*naturally being very witty and a great storyteller
*lots of duality and contradiction, especially in the emotional nature; can always be two different things at once
*being a very good listener

Hi! I like your blog, after reading about the square, I looked at the chart of one of my closest friends, who has moon in Aries squaring mercury in capricorn. She does seem to have this nervous tension, she doesn't like silences in the room and can talk constantly, even repeating the same thing again to fill the silence. How the aspect functions also depends on the signs of the square

I think mercury is rated too low in terms of importance. How we think and how we speak makes up a good chunk of what we are. I think it should be regarded as being as important as the moon.

I'm kind of the opposite. If there's too much noise without silences, it's just too much.
I sit in the dark sometimes and right now I'm in the living room. No TV. No music. Just silence.

You're right. If you think about it, two people could be really kind people or they could feel emotions the same way.
But when it comes to talking about feelings, or even daily tasks; they find it hard to understand each other. There is a lot of 'i don't understand what you mean?' or mis-interpretations.
To get on with close-ones, you need strong Mercury as well as a strong Moon.

It allows you to talk things through and come to a conclusion!

Hmm, that's interesting. I think that can definitely be associated with the square as well as her Moon sign. I think Moon-Mercury people with a yang Moon (Fire or Air) are more prone to not liking silence, even when it's an easy aspect. But, the Moon-Mercury people who have a yin Moon (Earth and Water) have the ability to be very talkative but also be comfortable with having the silence to be introspective. I can talk a lot but I can also go in a mode where I just think a lot, quietly, to myself. I love just being immersed in with my thoughts, at times, and that's when that talkativeness just goes inward. Whereas Fire and Air Moons with this aspect usually need that sense of constantly using that talkativeness in an active, outward way.

And of course Mercury is very important! I just think we can kind of take Mercury for granted because it's ALWAYS influencing us. Without our Mercury, we'd all be vegetables, unable to move, speak, think, etc. It's how we process things, like the Moon. But, the Moon is intuitive processing and Mercury is rational processing. And combing them both is what makes Moon-Mercury people very quick on the uptake because we have the ability to tap into both processes seamlessly.
