What's the difference between a term and decan in astrology? For example, my rising sign is 12 Cancer which, according to traditional DECAN system on astro.com means that it is in the 2nd DECAN of Cancer which they say is ruled by Pluto; according to Ptolemy TERM on astro.com my rising sign falls under the TERMS of Jupiter. What's the difference between the two? I never bother with worrying about decan and terms unless I'm delineating a horary chart where I want to get specific about a significator.IP: Logged |

Terms or arc termini, are arc boundaries given over to various sub-rulerships within each sign. They vary from author to author and modern astrologers Leo, Sepharial and others have defined their own terms.Ptolemy actually described at least three different systems (including the Chaldean and Egyptian). So these did not originate with Ptolemy. He only described or rewrote them. The one named after him he took from old manuscripts and redefined. It's something normally only used by some traditionalists or horary users. Decans are simple subdivisions of each sign into 10° arcs (thus decan) given rulerships correlating to the three signs of that same element. I don't use either. Instead I use dwads since they fit into the holographic relation of every sign to the whole zodiac, rather than it be cut up into bits as if unrelated. ------------------ The Declinations Guy > Expert birth chart rectification > Rising Sign Descriptions ♈ ♉ ♊ ♋ ♌ ♍ ♎ ♏ ♐ ♑ ♒ ♓ IP: Logged |
