The Bridges of Madison County.

When he is watching her in the rain, and she is wanting to jump out of the truck so bad, they they drive off and are behind him...

Makes me cry every time, I watch that movie when I need a good cry!

A few of those:

Bonnie & Clyde

Syriana - when Prince Nasir is assassinated along with his family.

Kingdom Of Heaven - when Nasir & Balian shake hands, then Saladin picks up the cross and puts it on the table, and the very end where he turns to look at Nasir.

Closer - when Larry and Anna are back together, but the best part, when Dan realises that Alice wasn't who she claimed for all those years, and that she'd been telling Larry the truth about her name being Jane.

So many, I like all of what you guys named.

I like the ending of 'House of Sand and Fog' so sad.

I like the end of 'Vanilla Sky' cause it is really left up for intrepretation.

can't remember any atm but i've always liked the ending of Before Sunset. Celine is imitating Nina Simone singing, while Jesse is dumbfounded and entranced by her divine loveliness.

Celine: 'baby, you're going to miss that plane.'

Jesse: 'i know...'

and you know what else? that particular song they play is NO coincidence. just brilliant!

Thelma & Louise is an easy choice.

I also like the poignant ending to The Company of Wolves. Very metaphoric, so I don't feel like explaining (let alone spoiling).

The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane was also very poignant...it was obvious she was going to prevail against one foe, but it drives me crazy not knowing the rest. About every time I see it again I get an urge to do a fanfic continuing the story where it left off (for anyone who knows the story, I plan to have the Hallets extended family hire a PI to prove the Hallets dead--NOT find them, as they're not wanted alive, and the PI will notice that his payment will be much less if either is found alive--so that they can divvy up their estate, and of course he Rynn is going to be a lightning rod to his investigation...to many leads lead back to her, despite her and Mario's cunning genius, though he won't be able to keep from underestimating her of course, and be focusing instead on her dad who he believes is still alive).

I wonder if Princess Mononoke counts as poignant? It's tragic, but there's even more hope for a better future.

Had Labyrinth ended as in the book, that would be a downright poignant & haunting ending (though not the least bit exciting), and I'd probably list that one for sure. But the movie put in a gratuitous happy ending instead (not that I'm complaining, just saying).

The ending of The Colour Purple gets me every time.

I can't watch it anymore. I identify with Celie so strongly. It's painful.

hahaha!!!! Yes I was watching something on cable, (do not know the particular channel) tried to watch it last night, but was too busy doin other things!

I do not spend too much time with my head in the screen, more likely my head is in the clouds or peering through spectacles into a periodical of substance.

Sure, some movies are more obvious than others, tho, I know folks who have never seen Thelma and Louise...

Went just this past Wednesday to see Public Enemies. Now, I am Depp fan, true enough, and he was excellent in the flick (have not been to a theatre presentation of anything for many, many years....), but the ending of this movie was the opposite of "poignant" it was predictable...

(that is if you know your American criminal history!)

Now, I shall go back to channel surfing and reading the new article in Texas Monthly about Ted Nugent...

(on my last day off)

Yes, have to see that movie! Johnny Depp is my absolute favorite!!!

I am very excited today, I have been looking for a copy of "The Libertine" with Johnny Depp, for over a year now. (I don't buy things online, I don't have credit cards or bank accounts, plus I enjoy the scavenger hunt) anyway, my friends own a video store, and usually I tell them what I want and they call me if someone comes in to sell that particular film. It's a used video store, I don't mind if they are used as long as they work.
Anywho, no luck forever in finding "The Libertine" It wasn't a critically acclaimed film. But I love it!
Today, I went to my pharmacy and they rent videos there. They were selling some of the used rentals and there it was, for $6.99, plus you got another for free! Yipee!

Anyone see this film?
Sorry D for veering off topic!

I like the ending (well, the whole movie, actually!) of Shawshank Redemption.

I also like the ending of Up, where he realizes that living an 'ordinary' life with a lot of love is just meaningful as big adventures.

Also: It's a Wonderful Life

Or maybe 2001: Space Odyssey, Memento, The Usual Suspects, or Planet of the Apes. These aren't poignant exactly, but pretty cool!

I'm a heartless b@stard. I will share a little secret and tell you that my husband cries every time we watch Elf. As soon as the sleigh bells start after the caroling, it's all over for him.

He cries at commercials though. I just laugh at him!

I think "The Green Mile" is poignant from start to finish.

Also, more recently, I watched "7 Pounds". It was one of those flicks that stayed with me for awhile. At the end when he goes to see her heart Dr. and asks what her chances are and she says,"3%" or some really low %, I burst into tears.

Also really like Shawshank and Bridges
