If our bodies are our temples, to reside here while spirit is enjoying a 3d experience may our bodies not also be our houses? And do we not have the right to decorate our houses as we choose? I am speaking mainly of tattoos and piercings, but all things apply, botox, boob jobs, hair colours, etc. I get so tired of people judging those with tattos or piercings. Tried to tell my ever-judgmental Virgo mom that she, at 70-some, still perms her hair, colours her hair and can not go out without makeup, as she condems me and my daughters for our ink and metal work. It is my house and I choose to decorate it as I see fit, for ME, not for anybodyelse. I was thinking last night, all the people who I know who have tattoos and or more than ear piercings have nicely and uniquely decorated homes, that is the houses made of brick and wood, and they are creative and accepting individuals. Those who do not have "body art" tend to dwell in surroundings that are boring, no flair. Just an observation. All comments appreciated! t~~~ IP: Logged |

Surpassing judgement is a highly evolved state of being. One must know how to unify the oppositions and know that both adorned and unadorned exist to support one another. One would not exist without the contrast of the other so to speak. She hasn't yet mastered her own self-criticism and self-judgement. How many of us truly have? This is the grand illusion and blindness of the corrupted culture ... to see the outside cover first and not seek to look any deeper for the inner beauty. To each his own ... both views are correct and freedom to choose, adornment or non-adornment is what is ultimately beautiful. Most likely you are one of your mother's more prominent teachers and healers of this great lesson. IP: Logged |

mermaid, it is not just my mom, but "socitey" in general.geezzzz one has to cover ink at work, one has to take out metal to go to public school, women "judge" those that get the boob jobs/botox, (seems guys like it tho ), just people in general. we are all children of god, no one more special no one more ugly... something so simple made so complicated! A few of my favorite quotes. You'll like these hippi!A man without tattoos is invisible to the Gods. ~Iban Proverb, as quoted on vanishingtattoo.com Your body is a temple, but how long can you live in the same house before you redecorate? ~Author Unknown
The world is divided into two kinds of people: those who have tattoos, and those who are afraid of people with tattoos. ~Author Unknown
A tattoo is a true poetic creation, and is always more than meets the eye. As a tattoo is grounded on living skin, so its essence emotes a poignancy unique to the mortal human condition. ~V. Vale and Andrea Juno, Modern Primitives [A] genuine tattoo.... tells a story. I like stories and tattoos, no matter how well done, and if they don't tell a story that involves you emotionally, then they're just there for decoration, then they're not a valid tattoo. There has to be some emotional appeal or they're not, to my way of thinking, a real tattoo. It tells people what you are and what you believe in, so there's no mistakes. ~Leo, tattooist, 1993, quoted in Margo DeMello, Bodies of Inscription, 2000 And this tattooing had been the work of a departed prophet and seer of his island, who, by those hieroglyphic marks, had written out on his body a complete theory of the heavens and the earth, and a mystical treatise on the art of attaining truth; so that Queequeg in his own proper person was a riddle to unfold; a wondrous work in one volume; but whose mysteries not even himself could read, though his own live heart beat against them; and these mysteries were therefore destined in the end to moulder away with the living parchment whereon they were inscribed, and so be unsolved to the last. ~Herman Melville, Moby-Dick IP: Logged |

more! "In all ages, far back into prehistory, we find human beings have painted and adorned themselves." H.G. Wells "But to become a freak one needs a strong character and unusual determination." George Burchett - Memoirs of a Tattooist, 1956 Primitive tribes were certainly convinced that the spirit, having escaped from the body at death, retained a replica of its earthly tenement. They therefore used tattoo marks as a means of identification in the next world and a passport to future happiness. (Ronald Scutt, Art, Sex and Symbol, 1974, p. 63) Jack Rudy on Tattoos -- "It's a good thing they (tattoos) hurt, otherwise every p*ssy in the world would have one." Death could come at any time, Angelina Jolie says. The tattoo is a strong reminder to live fully in the moment and never have regrets. (About her first tattoo of the Japanese Kanji for Death) I didn't get the tattoo for the dark reason everyone thinks. Usually all my tattoos came at good times. A tattoo is something permanent when you've made a self-discovery, or something you've come to a conclusion about. - Angelina Jolie - 2003 My skin is my canvas. The artwork on it represents something that is very powerful and meaningful in my life. I look at my skin as something of a living diary because all my tattoos represent a time in my life. And I never wish to shut the door on the past, so I carry it all with me. Dave Navarro Giving birth was easier than having a tattoo. Nicole Appleton Quirky is sexy, like scars or chipped teeth. I also like tattoos - they're rebellious. Jennifer Aniston Tattoos are like stories - they're symbolic of the important moments in your life. Sitting down, talking about where you got each tattoo and what it symbolizes, is really beautiful. Pamela Anderson My body is a journal in a way. It's like what sailors used to do, where every tattoo meant something, a specific time in your life when you make a mark on yourself, whether you do it yourself with a knife or with a professional tattoo artist. Hipp, that’s a good observation. I have tatts and piercings too and through the year’s people would tell me,” Your body is a temple so why do you permanently scar it with ink and use it as a pin cushion!!!” LOL Well tatts and piercing don’t make you who you are on the inside. Yes, your body is a temple and so is everything else. I view that saying as nourishing it (healthy food), excising etc and not abusing it in a negative way eg.drugs. Tatts esp to me is seen as an art. People just have different preferences. In some cultures tatts and piercings are acceptable and have special meanings. So enjoy your tatts and your body!!! ------------------ quote: "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies with in us." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I totally agree with your initial post hippichick. That's how I see it. I wouldn't want to get botox, cosmetic surgery, etc, but I'd definitely go for a tatt or too. I see it the same way with fashion, hair colour, etc. I think how people present themselves is expressing their creativity. Not always, for some it's purely functional. Maybe with Venus in the 1st house I like to use it as a way to show parts of myself and my personality and express my creativity.IP: Logged |

PeaceEven if it is functional, it is one's house to do with it what one chooses, and that is the main point of my musings. ~~~ My 18 year old has a half sleeve, not to mention several others, that she has to hide from her grandparents, all them, but she does it out of respect for their beliefs, not because she is ashamed. t~~~ IP: Logged |
