Major natural gas explosion in San Bruno, Ca last night. San Bruno is situated right next to SFO Int'l airport, in between So. San Fran. and San Mateo........50 homes completely burned to the ground, 120 damaged, 6 deaths, animals too. And that is only the deaths that they know of, many people have been cremated from the fire so will be hard to get a full count until loved ones report those missing. Click here for news story This is exactly why we should never, ever take anything for granted; your home and possessions, and never take anyone for granted: this could happen to any of us anytime. Be grateful for everything you have. IP: Logged |

Hi Winksy I live 20 mins. north of San Francisco........this is South San Francisco. I have relatives and friends that live in the cities right next to where this happened. I posted it here b/c it seemed there were a lot of people from the SF Bay Area when I posted my "where do I work?" thread. IP: Logged |

watched a bit of the news on it and was really impressed by the synchronicity of an off-duty fireman and his brother who just happened to be visiting (they live in santa rosa or somewhere equally distant) in the area that night and heard the boom and saw the fireball. so they were right there on the scene even before the fire dept got there and helped a lot of people ... good to see things going as right as they can sometimes.IP: Logged |

I smell a rat. quote: The San Mateo County coroner identified two of the dead as Jacqueline Greig, 44, and he 13-year-old daughter, Janessa, whose house at 1670 Claremont Drive was destroyed.Greig worked for the California Public Utilities Commission for 21 years and was a member of its Division of Ratepayer Advocates. She also was listed as a member of the natural gas committee on the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates. "It's really unbelievably ironic," said Mindy Spatt, spokeswoman for TURN, an independent advocacy group for utility customers. Marcel Hawiger, an advocate with TURN, said he knew Greig for a decade. "She has been a tireless and wonderful advocate for consumers for many years. I'm just devastated - this is such a tragedy," Hawiger said. Greig reviewed data that PG&E used to justify gas rates and reviewed energy projects to see if they were cost effective. One of the projects she was involved with was how PG&E went about charging for inspection of transmission pipes. "She was such a nice person," Hawiger said, "She was always such a pleasure to work with." Just seems very odd that a person heavily involved with the gas company, was killed.
