http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/568/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=4613 time for a little activism whatever your political bent...save our food supply.
a news headline heard on the radio two days ago - i think it was in georgia - a private citizen was arrested for having "too many vegetables" growing in his OWN GARDEN... you can follow my drift i'm sure. the above link is about a bill that will criminalize real food and spreading info about it! Nah, that`s a little misleading ( and the start of the article as well) as he was fined for too many crops for his zoning code. The media loves a little misleading to get to the story US farmer fined $5K for growing too many vegetables From: NewsCore September 14, 2010 9:49AM AN AMERICAN farmer was facing up to $5000 in fines after officials cited him for growing too many vegetables on his property. According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, DeKalb County officials claim Steve Miller violated local zoning laws by growing too many crops on his land. Mr Miller, of Clarkston, Georgia, said he has had his two-acre piece of property rezoned and vowed to fight the allegations, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. County officials began ticketing Mr Miller last year for the alleged violations and for having “unpermitted employees” on his property, the report said. The farmer told the station he has spent the last 15 years growing crops that he puts up for sale at local markets. "It's a way of life, like it's something in my blood,” Mr Miller told WSB. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/world/us-farmer-fined-5k-for-growing-too-many-vegetables/story-e6frev00-1225922107684 . ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. yes i just found the story and it's a zoning issue. still the guy is not making money, just growing veggies...obviously he should have checked to see what the zoning laws were before he did it!IP: Logged |

he could but claims not...breaking even more like...dunno but he did get the zoning altered so no more problem except the 5 grand fine...also sounds like they may be after him for hiring undocumented workers too ...which doesn't alter the bill that wants to get pharma's grips on food supplements etc... No, it doesn`t; perhaps it`s not (the article) a positive approach to bringing attention to the bill ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world is immortal"~ - George Eliot IP: Logged |

anyway thanks for pointing out that it was in the wrong place! guess we all jump to conclusions sometimes...the bill itself, well i often find these guys paranoid but it does seem a good idea to check out their claims. it wouldn't be the first bill that has been run thru congress before anyone knew about it.
