Apparently, according to the paper today, scientists have invented a pill that can completely block all bad memories. So any trauma you have experienced can be erased. I used to ask this question of people when they would cry over broken relationships "If you could take a pill and forget you ever knew them would you? And now they've invented it. Very few actually said they would. Most people see the hurt as almost an intrinsic part of the love. What would you do? IP: Logged |

I can imagine a hurt I couldn't live with (the kind of hurt I'm talking about wouldn't be over a relationship) Yes I'd take it.IP: Logged |

At at certain time, I'd take it. But as time passes, then no, I wouldn't. So knowing that, ultimately, I'd say no. But I undrstand the position of those who say yes all too well. ------------------ "The earth is not given to us by our mothers and our fathers, it is borrowed from our children." IP: Logged |

Would you take a pill invented by a scientist? by which l mean - an untested, beta blocker that may have side effects such as dribbling uncontrollably or turrets? Did you read that in the Sun? hee hee I'd take it so that l wouldn't remember that l actually was stupid enough to date half the idiots l did and marry my ex! IP: Logged |

considering the damage that "stuffed down" memories and hurts cause in people's lives, NO WAY!! and extrapolating to where that same pill will be used to make us forget the bad things the "controlling class" might decide to do to us? DOUBLE NO WAY!! IP: Logged |

Isn't pain part of a life lesson? How would we be if it didn't exist? Do we really know we love someone unless we can experience what it would/does feel like to lose them? Or at least know that that's what could happen?IP: Logged |

bunnies We are here to learn. Up's and down's... that's what makes this big roller coaster called life. With the good you must take the bad in order to grow. Nah... I wouldn't take it. No matter how much it would tempt me. Kinda reminds me of the whole Matrix thing...red or blue pill? IP: Logged |

There are some pains or disappointments that we can learn to live with like a parent or sibling dying. There are other pains that not only rob you of your joy but any chance of future joy as well, stuff we absolutely can not learn to live with, the stuff that makes US want to die, when suicide is the lesser of two evils. If something horrible happened to my kids or if I ever saw it I would want to die, so yes for times like that, I'd be grateful for that pill. That's a very dark place. IP: Logged |

i;d take one in conjunction with hypnotherapy to cure my phobia.if my phobia was caused over a traumatic related event many years ago, i'd take it with that, if i knew it would help. IP: Logged |

Winks indeed...There's always a reason for something happening... and if we blot it out... does that mean it will come around again in a different form? I believe so. I really don't think we can successfully escape anything. Now i'd imagine going through a horror would be down right aweful... and yes I probably would want to forget... but hopefully the temptation is never there. It will set back a lot of growth. Stunt if you will. IP: Logged |

I'd read the fine print before taking it. When side effects these days include things like diarrhea, impotence/loss of sexual interest, hemorrhaging, hemorrhoids, and DEATH, what's a few painful memories? Did you see the movie 'The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'? It pretty much has a similar concept - a procedure erasing the memory of a painful relationship or painful breakup, but then you lose all the good as well. Can't take one away without the other. How would a medicine know to only take pain away? Ecstasy and pain are like sparring siblings, but they're still siblings, siamese twins. Kill one, and the other dies. IP: Logged |

It that pill the modern version of the frontal lobotomy thing? It could be useful in traumatic cases like rape, but for things such as heartbreak and mundane stuff that is just o.v.e.r.k.i.l.l. Anyway, there are stuff like NLP and EFT etc that can deliver the same effect, so no need for that pill (which I think is just a new way for big pharmas to make money). IP: Logged |
