For those that haven't heard of it:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1915581/

I'm curious how many men and women are going to see it. And for the ladies, how much does the eye candy play in making you want to see it? How often does eye candy affect how you see a movie?

A couple of women (and one teenage girl) told me they didn't care for the Avengers much but the eye candy helped them get through it...even so, they didn't want to see it again. How many women can relate to this? And are there any who DID choose to see it again BECAUSE they wanted to ogle the men in it (as opposed to being dragged and comforting yourself that at least the guys are hot)?

And if the visuals are that hot, would you like to see more movies like Magic Mike? And do you think men have a lot more eye candy movies than you do and would like to see more made for a female audience? And if so, would that include a desire for more visual porn (that is, without much of a story, as opposed to drama and movies that get erotic and steamy)?

I'm also curious about the men going to see it and their reasons why as well.

I considered going to "magic mike" just for Joe Manganiello from True blood but I didn't have a intense desire to see a film about male strippers. I can't really think of a time I have went to the movies just for eye candy because I can be a real movie snob. If the plot sucks or its a horrible adaptation from a book I have read I am not going. I actually liked the Avengers simply because I am a comic book fan well a fan of Marvel not so much D.C. but it was still good. I can watch and enjoy films without "male eye candy" or "erotic scenes" but If I am watching a film with "eye candy" and/or "erotic scenes" I need for that scene to have a purpose or else it feels awkward to watch and not funny ha haha awkward more like "I feel like I am watching a porno with my mom in the room awkward".

Watch What To Expect When You're Expecting to see Joe in a movie.

I'm not going to see it.

I don't find over-the-top, overly revealing, in-your-face, primal, overt sexuality remotely appealing, at all. It just comes off as tasteless. In the case of media, it comes off to me as desperate moves by producers/writers to get attention and just feels like a cheap trick.

Mystery is much more alluring, in my book. What's not revealed or said or shown is more fascinating.

Then again, Scorpio Venus here.

I saw it last night.

It was very well-done. There was a token drug story that felt sort of tacked-on, but all-in-all it was great fun. I give it two thumbs-up .

I don't find Channing Tatum attractive (at least not from the shoulders up), but his dancing really impressed me.

I mostly saw it for Matthew McConaughey's hilarity and Alex Pettyfer and Matt Bomer's hotness. None of them disappointed

I went to see it, and felt that the movie actually catered more to males. My reasons are 1) No explicit male nudity, but plenty of topless female scenes 2) Stripping scenes were actually brief, only showed glimpses of bottoms. 3) Males as sexual objects was reversed into "im so hot, look how I can get these desperate girls to go along with whatever I want, while throwing $$$ at me". 4) lead male character gets to fullfill fantasies like group sex, swinging, taking someone else's girl, sorotity chicks. While I was surprised that the story goes deeper than female fantasy, overall felt like male fantasy w guy eyecandy just thrown in for novelty.

Having said that, I loved Avengers and love action flicks. I go to the movies for entertainment, and sex scenes dont bother me if its relevant to the story. What annoys me is when sex is obviously added on only for ticket sales. I wanted to watch Magic Mike because Im a fan of Channing, and love his dancing. I really love dancing and started following Channing's movies since he starred in Step Up.

I totally agree with you, Aquacheeka, and Matt Bomer and Matthew McConaughey are the main reasons my Capricorn gal pal and I are going to see it on Wednesday. I love the idea of the dancing, and to be honest, if it involved extended nudity, I would be totally turned off.

Sorry, I was talking about what I *did* find appealing, as I mentioned earlier what *doesn't* appeal to me.

No, Magic Mike is not Rita Hayworth. It just looked as though you were responding to the poster above you, especially as that's the only thing that made sense.

Here's what I put in my original post:

quote:
For those that haven't heard of it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1915581/

That answers your question. (If it's still unclear, though I can't imagine it would be, Magic Mike is a MOVIE, not a person. Ok technically Magic Mike is a character in a movie called Magic Mike but I'm obviously asking about the movie, not the character.)

I really don't understand why you'd ask "Who?" without reading the original post first, which you obviously didn't or you wouldn't have asked. (If you want to claim you did read it before asking then can you explain how you didn't know I was talking about a movie when I very obviously was and was obvious to everyone else? Just so I can be clearer in the future please tell me what was confusing about it to you.)

WOW REALLY!!
First you have made some unfair assumptions.. Not taking my perspective into consideration..
g
1. Im reading these post on a small cell phone.. It gets really hard to read at times, so sometimes skimming them is what I do..

2. I dont click on the links.. Some links freeze my phone.. So I stopped clicking links..

3. Yes I read magic mike was a movie, but I still didnt know "WHO" magic mike is.. SO I simply asked WHO?

4. I can understand the person confusion by my who question for the above topic.. But when I got the reply saying Rita Hayworth, that confused me, cuz that was saying Magic Mike is Rita Hayworth..
So then I asked Magic mike is Rita Hayworth??
Not really that big of a deal..
Its a misunderstanding..

Im not an idiot.

You didnt take my circumstances into consideration.

Other peoples perspective of something may not be the same as yours..
No need to talk down to me, because I didnt "see" it as you did..

Have a nice day!

I still don't understand what the mix up was and it has nothing to do with your perspective (defined as how you see a person or movie as opposed to the circumstances you described). While I understand that it's hard to read on a cell phone then it would also be hard to read any other reply, so if you couldn't read my OP then you couldn't read any answer either. Furthermore, you couldn't bother to be clear in your first post yet you have no problem explaining yourself later. That makes it hard for me to believe you're not just playing a game in my thread.

Still, you obviously can read anything I post other than the original post that started this thread (even if that doesn't make any sense to me) so I'll say I don't know who Magic Mike is. I never saw the movie, read the book, or have any plan to. And just in case it's not obvious then who Magic Mike is is completely irrelevant to what I was asking about.

Hi PixieJane,

I think what Lioness said was that she doesn't like to click on links when she's on her phone as it causes her phone to freeze up. So she didn't look at the link you gave, and for the sake of brevity asked who this guy is, by just saying "Who".

And by perspective she means her situation, meaning, not being at a computer.

I don't think that she's at all trying to play a game on your thread. In fact I've never known her to play a game on ANY thread. She's usually a very pleasant, upbeat, and optimistic kind of person, who's also considerate of others.

I'm just clarifying so that any misunderstandings can be cleared up and we can all move on and focus on this stud you and the others are speaking about lol. It's interesting to read the different POVs. Discussions like these bring out some stark differences between men and women in general. I think it would be good if some more men chimed in.

i don't find chunky muscley men attractive, or matthew mcconaughey, there's not really any appeal in the movie whatsoever for me.

Eye candy definitely helps, but there has to be substance to the movie as well.

My version of eye candy would be P.S. I Love You - now that's eye candy! or give me a movie about a bunch of attractive musicians and artists and writers living together in a commune doing drugs, falling in love, being activists, and trying to earn money at the same time.
(whoops i just described Across the Universe hahaha i guess it was on my mind).

I think I'll wait for it to come on t.v. Judging by the trailer, the plot looks empty. I do appreciate male beauty, but am not willing to pay for something that falls flat in its plot just to look at a bunch of hot guys.

Eye candy is half of what made me go see Thor and Captain America, the other was being a fan of comic based movies. I got lucky (no pun intended) that they were good movies. There could have been more to them, but overall they were good. I saw the Avengers I don't know how many times because it was actually interesting. The eye candy was a bonus, but not the sole reason for my watching it.

For the most part, I need more than eye candy. It's like being physically attracted to a hot guy, but when he opens his mouth and stupid spills out everything is ruined.

I'm not sure if guys have more eye candy movies than women. It's too hard to say so without generalizing both genders and not consider sexuality.
