I used to think the Ouija board was just a joke or something for fun. In high school, after my mother died, the Ouija board would occasionally come out at slumber parties. It seemed inevitable that my mother, or someone posing as my mother, would come through.

So this was borderline fun and borderline creepy/inappropriate to me. It got to the point where I would just leave the room when someone hauled a Ouija board out. I definitely didn't want to be manipulated into a theatrical display of emotion.

In college I had some Turkish roomates who would make a "Ouija board" out of slips of paper and shot glass. One night they were tinkering with this when the shot glass flew across the table and smashed on the ground.

I thought it was funny, I thought they had made it happen on purpose for drama, but they insisted that they didn't.

One of my roommates was so spooked, she sought out a Native American healer and brought him back to our apartment, looking for an explanation. He said it was full of evil spirits and came back with sage and some feathers to hang over the doorways. He did some ceremony and then they went out to a cemetery to bury something (duplicate paper Ouija board, maybe?)

It wasn't a month after that they my roommates and I, and an old friend of mine, all got into a big, painful argument, and the apartment went deserted with dirty dishes even in the sink for weeks on end. Nobody wanted to be there at all.

In retrospect, I wonder if there really were evil spirits there all along??

I wonder if the Ouija board was the portal, in the first place?

Years ago, my daughters and I got out the darn thing and tried to talk to their recently departed dad.

Yea, the whole sheebang, flickering candles with no wind, the planchette moving on its own..and this peksy spirit kept coming through wanting all of the attention.

When I moved out of that house I left it there, hidden way back in the attic.

I debated on burning it, but not knowing what I might release I just burried it, neath a bunch of insulation.

Supposedly the real story of The Exorcist was from somebody playing with one.

ewwwww, do not like them at all!
